Cardiologist shares if starting your day with a spoonful of ghee is healthy: ‘Ekdam bekar baat hai'

Ghee, or clarified butter, has been a staple in Indian cuisine for centuries. In the February 7, 2024 episode of Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, Dr Bimal Chhajer, a cardiologist specialising in non-invasive cardiology highlighted the potential drawbacks of having ghee. According to him, ghee is predominantly composed of saturated fats, which may raise cholesterol levels and increase heart disease risk when consumed excessively. Asked how ghee has been a part of traditional Indian diet for years, Dr Chhajer said in Hindi, 'Earlier people used to exert themselves physically, and needed to eat ghee, but that is still being carried forward, even when our lifestyle has changed.' Ghee is high in calories Responding to people believing that they should start their day with a spoonful of ghee, especially those who follow Ayurveda (one of the world's oldest medical systems, originating in India), he added, 'Ekdam bekar baat hai (that is not good at all). Ghee is 100 percent triglyceride (a type of fat found in your blood). Now let me explain how having too much ghee is problematic. Ayurveda is 2500 years old. The world has changed since then. People have stopped physical labour. But Ayurveda is still stuck in the past and has not adapted to the changes in our world. Ghee is fat and one gram of fat has 9 calories as compared with a roti, rice or dal that have 4-5 calories per gram. Ghee is a high-calorie food, and it is the worst for your weight.' Asked if ghee is better than oil for Indian cooking, Dr Chhajer said it is their 'lack of knowledge' if people are using it for cooking and thinking it is healthy. But what if shedding kilos didn't require strict dieting or expensive meal plans? Enter Dr Bimal Chhajer 's ' jaadu diet ' — a plant-based weight loss plan that claims to help you drop 7 kilograms in just a month, all without starving or spending extra. The cardiologist, known for his work in non-invasive cardiology, recently broke down this method on The Gaurav Thakur Show (episode aired July 20, 2024), and it's as simple as it is to Dr Chhajer, the magic lies in eating well, but wisely. He claims that the idea is to fill the stomach with low-calorie, high-volume foods. This approach, according to him, helps you naturally stay in a calorie deficit while keeping hunger pangs at bay. The plan centres around fruits, vegetables, soups, and dal — foods that nourish without overloading your body with daily structure is straightforward and inexpensive. Start the day with black tea and plenty of fruits to boost metabolism. For lunch, combine protein-rich dals like moong or masoor with raw vegetables such as cucumber, beetroot, and carrot. Dinner includes a warm soup paired with salad and boiled vegetables — satisfying and said that this is not a "forever plan", but just for sometime. Cardiologist shares 'jadoo diet for weight loss', assures you'll shed at least 7 kg in 1 month without starving yourself

Losing weight without a strict diet is possible. In the July 20, 2024 episode of The Gaurav Thakur Show, Dr Bimal Chhajer, a cardiologist specialising in non-invasive cardiology, shared details of his 'jadoo diet (magic diet) for weight loss'. It is a plant-based weight loss plan that promises to help you shed at least 7 kilograms in just a month while reducing cholesterol levels. Also read | Forget 10,000 steps! This simple 30-minute Japanese walking routine may be better than hours at gym This diet focuses on simple, wholesome foods and smart combinations to promote weight loss and overall health. It helps you enter a calorie deficit without feeling starved and allows your body to break fat naturally. Explaining key components of his 'jadoo diet for weight loss', Dr Chhajer said in Hindi, 'It is a very simple concept: if we fill our stomachs with high-calorie food, our weight will increase, but if we fill with low-calorie food, we will not be hungry and our weight will not increase.' He said, 'So in jaadu diet, we give a selection of low-calorie foods. You don't have to stay hungry. In fact, you should eat well, but stick to these low-calorie foods like fruits, vegetables and salads... this leads to rapid weight loss without depriving your body of food. 7 kg weight loss in a month is assured, and that too without any extra cost.' A post shared by Food Link (@ig_foodlink) He added, 'Have black tea and lots of fruits. Then for lunch, have dal with raw vegetables by combining dal (like moong or masoor) with cucumber, beetroot, and carrot for protein, and other nutrients. For dinner, have soup with salad and boiled vegetable. This is just for a month: you don't have to follow this forever. You can lose about 10-20 kg with this diet in around 3 months. I recently met a patient in Kolkata, she was 86 kg and now she weighs 62 kg by just following this diet. Jaadu diet works wonderfully.'
