Asked how ghee has been a part of traditional Indian diet for years, Dr Chhajer said in Hindi, 'Earlier people used to exert themselves physically, and needed to eat ghee, but that is still being carried forward, even when our lifestyle has changed.'
Ghee is high in calories
Responding to people believing that they should start their day with a spoonful of ghee, especially those who follow Ayurveda (one of the world's oldest medical systems, originating in India), he added, 'Ekdam bekar baat hai (that is not good at all). Ghee is 100 percent triglyceride (a type of fat found in your blood). Now let me explain how having too much ghee is problematic. Ayurveda is 2500 years old. The world has changed since then. People have stopped physical labour. But Ayurveda is still stuck in the past and has not adapted to the changes in our world. Ghee is fat and one gram of fat has 9 calories as compared with a roti, rice or dal that have 4-5 calories per gram. Ghee is a high-calorie food, and it is the worst for your weight.'
Asked if ghee is better than oil for Indian cooking, Dr Chhajer said it is their 'lack of knowledge' if people are using it for cooking and thinking it is healthy. '10 truths no one really prepares you for a C-section,' she wrote. Here's what the gynaecologist had to say: 1. Even with a planned C-section, labour might surprise you. Your body doesn't follow a script; contractions or your water breaking might happen before your scheduled date. Keep your hospital bag packed and ready to go. You're numb, but totally aware. It's a strange mix of calm and chaos. 3. The operating room is far from cosy. Think bright lights, cold air, and a team of medical staff. Not the serene, candle-lit moment you might have visualised. 4. The spinal block kicks in quickly, and it might make you tremble. The body shakes, and sudden nausea happens. You're strong, even when you feel fragile. 5. You'll have a catheter in, and you probably won't notice. You'll be peeing in a bag for hours. Removing it? It doesn't hurt, but it feels odd. 6. You'll be alone in the operating room for a few minutes. Your partner waits outside until the anaesthesia is in. Those minutes can feel endless. You'll be scared, and that's okay. You're doing great. 7. You might not hear your baby cry right away. It's terrifying, but it doesn't always mean something is wrong. Some babies need suction or help before that first cry. It's okay. Your gut and skin are in constant conversation via the gut-skin axis. When your gut's off, you get unhappy microbes, and your gut leaks inflammatory molecules into your bloodstream, your face becomes the billboard for your gut's dysfunction and that systemic inflammation.' He adds, "Studies show that people with acne, eczema, and psoriasis often have altered gut microbiomes and increased intestinal permeability. So, your gut-friendly skincare routine should start with three basic pillars." 1. Fibre "Most people get under 15 grams a day, you need at least 30 or more. Prebiotic fibre feeds good bacteria, which allows them to make short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, which can lower inflammation in your gut and your skin," says Dr Karan. 2. Eat more colour Dr Karan emphasises adding more colour to your diet. "Especially red and orange vegetables, these are rich in carotenoids like beta-carotene and lycopene. These act as internal antioxidants which can protect your skin from the inside out," he explains. 3. Stress check Dr Karan explains that stress can alter your microbiome via the gut-brain axis. This can lead to gut dysfunction, which may trigger skin flare-ups and even more stress. "It's a vicious loop and won't be fixed by yet another serum," he says. Recently, the actor shared three exercises to strengthen the core in a reel. In the caption, she wrote, 'Reducing your stomach flab will happen with the correct nutrition at the correct time. However, strengthening of the core muscles can be achieved by these simple exercises. These can be done at any age without the fear of getting hurt.' 'Just maintain one simple rule: ground your entire back to the floor, so you have to engage your core muscles for the slightest movement. (Special good for elders) These will also enhance hip mobility and flexibility. Do not worry if you cannot achieve a 90° stance… hold for at least 30 to 45 seconds at the furthest you can. Anamika Lalwani, Founder of Lit Fit Dance & Fitness Studio, added that the core is the powerhouse of the body, and maintaining its strength is crucial for overall health and functionality. 'It is the foundation of all movement. From sitting and standing to bending and lifting, a strong core supports your body in everything. It's not just about achieving defined abs; it's about stability, balance, and spine protection. Core strength helps prevent injuries, improves posture, and enhances performance in workouts and everyday activities,' she explained. Bhagyashree also revealed that doing crunches in the gym can have an added worry of straining the back and hurting the cervical. Thus, it becomes imperative to lie flat on the ground or the yoga mat, ensuring that the back touches the flat surface at all times while doing these exercises.
