Aug 29 march a decisive fight for Marathas: Jarange
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Reiterating his plan to carry out a march in Mumbai on Aug 29, quota activist Manoj Jarange on Sunday said the upcoming agitation would be a "decisive fight" in securing the desired reservation for the Maratha community from the OBC category. "The agitation in Mumbai will not be to press for our demand anymore, but to ensure the decision is taken by the govt in our favour at any cost," he said. Jarange, at a meeting with his supporters at Antarwali Sarathi from Jalna district, appealed to the Maratha community to register their participation in the statewide march planned in Mumbai. "We have to enter the battlefield now and ensure victory. We have to prepare so that no one can deny our demands," he said, addressing his supporters. The community is fighting for the cause for the last two years and the quota battle has reached its final stage now, he said. The proposed march is to commence from Antarwali Sarathi on Aug 27 and reach Mumbai on Aug 29. "All the people of Mumbai, including migrants, served us in the past during our last agitation. Even if it is the rainy season, please come to drop me off in Mumbai. I will take care of the next things. This opportunity will not come again and I sense a victory for us," Jarange said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Catanduva (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Benefits of OBC reservation to the Maratha community, implementation of Hyderabad, Satara and Bombay gazettes and quashing offences registered against youth during the course of Maratha reservation are some of the demands Jarange has raised. Largely pre-independence census and other records, these gazettes are considered by Marathas as substantiating documents in support of claims to establish Marathas as Kunbis to get the OBC reservation.

BJP MLA Bamb alleges Rs 4.7-cr irregularities in ZP works in Gangapur
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP MLA Prashant Bamb, who represents the Gangapur assembly constituency, on Friday accused officials from the Zilla Parishad's construction and finance departments of being involved in financial irregularities worth Rs 4.7 crore in govt-funded development works. The MLA alleged that bills were raised for road and school building works that were either incomplete or never started on the ground. He demanded registration of FIRs against all govt officials involved in the alleged siphoning of development funds. Bamb, in the morning, reached out to ZP CEO Ankit and made a representation, while expressing serious displeasure over turning a blind eye to his complaint against the alleged irregularities. Later, he addressed the press and alleged that records showed completion of eight road projects and several school buildings across the Gangapur-Khultabad constituency. "On site, many of these works haven't even begun. In some cases, bills for entire work amounts were cleared without executing a single rupee worth of work," he alleged. The MLA shared documents, GPS-tagged site photos and other material to substantiate his claims and said said important documents like GPS photos, site measurements, vouchers and asphalt invoices were not verified before approving payments. Bamb said certain officers were now attempting to dispose of properties in a bid to destroy evidence. "This matter involves senior ZP officials. I will pursue this in court," he said, adding that bills for school compound walls were passed using old photographs. "I repeatedly complained to the then ZP CEO about these issues, but no action was taken," Bamb alleged. In response, ZP executive engineer (construction) Sukhadev Kakad said, "An inquiry is already under way into the complaints. A report will be submitted within eight days. Our department randomly checks 5% of the works. If any errors occurred inadvertently, we accept that."

Collegium has always strived for merit-based elevation of judges: CJI
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Supreme Court Collegium has always strived for merit-based elevation in the selection or elevation of judges, whether to the Supreme Court or the high courts, Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai said on Thursday. Gavai was addressing a felicitation function organised by the Advocates Association of Bombay high court Bench at Aurangabad. "The Constitution is based on the four pillars of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. I have tried working in accordance with these words mentioned in our Preamble. If all the members of the judiciary keep their commitment to the fundamentals and basic values of the Constitution, no justice or judge will find it difficult to work," he said. Gavai said judges should not remain aloof from the society. "If a judge stays connected to the society and understands its problems, it helps in delivering appropriate justice. Judges should never be isolated. If meeting two lawyers can influence a judge's neutrality, the person is not eligible to serve as judge," he said. The CJI said delivering justice was neither a service nor a job like working from 10am to 5pm. "It is a service to the nation and to the society. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo It's like walking on a tightrope and remaining committed to constitutional values makes it easier for judges to serve," he said, adding, "I feel happy to state here that ever since becoming a part of the Collegium, we have always strived to achieve merit-based elevation of judges, be it to the SC or the HCs. " "While recommending names for elevation, we have never looked after the candidate's caste, creed or sect but only relied on the candidate's merit. Whether or not s/he is suitable for the job, whether the candidate has good integrity, whether s/he has a thorough study and knowledge of law, only these things are looked into while deciding elevation," Gavai said. On the expectations from him as the CJI, Gavai said, "I always consider that I am only first among the equals. SC should work as a Supreme Court and not the court of the Chief Justice of India. It should be the Supreme Court of all the judges. I feel happy that whatever decisions we have taken during the period of (my predecessor) Justice Sanjiv Khanna or during my period, they were not the decisions of the Chief Justice of India but the decisions of all the judges of the Supreme Court of India, taken unanimously. " The CJI said fate played an important role in an individual's progress. "I always believe the people with much more capability than me could not become HC or SC judges for some reason or the other. There may be justices more competent than me in SC, but they won't be able to become CJI, again for varied reasons. Hence, I believe fate plays an important role," he said. Gavai recalled his association with Aurangabad (now Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). "I have an emotional connection and a connection of love with Aurangabad, which has played a key role in my formative days as a legal professional. He recalled how lawyers from Aurangabad came to his rescue in 2008 when he met with an accident near Aurangabad while returning to Nagpur from Pune and also how a large number of lawyers from Aurangabad came to meet him in 2015 in Amravati when his father passed away. " Among those present on the dais were SC judges Justice Surya Kant, Justice Dipankar Datta, Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice A S Chandurkar; Bombay HC justices Ravindra Ghuge, Nitin Sambre and V V Kankanwandi; Attorney General of India Anil Singh; state advocate Amarjit Singh Girashe; Bombay HC registrar general S S Adkar; Vimalnath Tiwari; law and judiciary department joint secretary S S Pallod; Vilas Gaikwad; divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalkar; district collector Dilip Swami; special inspector general of police (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar range) Virendra Mishra and city police commissioner Pravin Pawar.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A woman police naik has been caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 95,000 from a person at the behest of an inspector in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Thursday. The 34-year-old police naik, posted at Dharashiv rural police station, was arrested after being caught taking the bribe on Wednesday, an ACB official said. Farmers oppose Shaktipeeth Expressway in Marathwada, burn copies of govt documents announcing project
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Farmers in Marathwada, particularly in Hingoli district's Basmath taluka, have strongly opposed the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway project over land acquisition and compensation issues. A group of farmers from Hayatnagar on Wednesday led a protest by burning copies of govt documents announcing the project. A farmer opposing the project, Ketan Sarang, said farmers would prefer to die than offer their fertile land for the project. "Many unemployed youths are returning to agriculture to earn a livelihood. While on one hand, govt has failed to offer jobs to youth, on the other hand, it is snatching the other option of farming also," he said. The Shaktipeeth Expressway is set to connect Hingoli's Aundha Nagnath Temple, a sacred Nageshwar Jyotirlinga site. However, farmers in Beed district, led by the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) of India, have strongly opposed the project, citing concerns over land acquisition and compensation. A group of farmers and PWP members on Tuesday afternoon opposed the visit of govt officials at Saygaon from Ambejogai taluka of Beed district. The govt team arrived in the village to carry out the land survey for the expressway. Local PWP members accused the district administration of using police force to suppress the protest by farmers. The Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway is scheduled to pass through 12 districts of Maharashtra, of which six are in Marathwada. The places of religious importance and other destinations from Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur and Dharashiv districts in Marathwada will be connected through the expressway. The state cabinet on Tuesday cleared the proposal for the Shaktipeeth Expressway. CM Devendra Fadnavis could not be reached for his comments on the latest protests in Hingoli and Beed.
