BJP MLA Bamb alleges Rs 4.7-cr irregularities in ZP works in Gangapur
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP MLA Prashant Bamb, who represents the Gangapur assembly constituency, on Friday accused officials from the Zilla Parishad's construction and finance departments of being involved in financial irregularities worth Rs 4.7 crore in govt-funded development works.
The MLA alleged that bills were raised for road and school building works that were either incomplete or never started on the ground. He demanded registration of FIRs against all govt officials involved in the alleged siphoning of development funds.
Bamb, in the morning, reached out to ZP CEO Ankit and made a representation, while expressing serious displeasure over turning a blind eye to his complaint against the alleged irregularities.
Later, he addressed the press and alleged that records showed completion of eight road projects and several school buildings across the Gangapur-Khultabad constituency. "On site, many of these works haven't even begun. In some cases, bills for entire work amounts were cleared without executing a single rupee worth of work," he alleged.
The MLA shared documents, GPS-tagged site photos and other material to substantiate his claims and said said important documents like GPS photos, site measurements, vouchers and asphalt invoices were not verified before approving payments.
Bamb said certain officers were now attempting to dispose of properties in a bid to destroy evidence. "This matter involves senior ZP officials. I will pursue this in court," he said, adding that bills for school compound walls were passed using old photographs.
"I repeatedly complained to the then ZP CEO about these issues, but no action was taken," Bamb alleged.
In response, ZP executive engineer (construction) Sukhadev Kakad said, "An inquiry is already under way into the complaints. A report will be submitted within eight days. Our department randomly checks 5% of the works. If any errors occurred inadvertently, we accept that."

All political parties, including the BJP, participated and voiced their opinions,' he said. 'After the Congress government, did Prime Minister Vajpayee, during his six-year tenure, or Prime Minister Modi, during his 11-year rule, ever hold talks with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister about reclaiming Katchatheevu? If Katchatheevu was truly the root cause of the fishermen's problems, the Indian government should have raised this with Sri Lanka,' Mr. Selvaperunthagai added. He said: 'Tamil Nadu fishermen are not arrested near Katchatheevu. Instead, they are arrested when they unintentionally cross the maritime boundary into Sri Lankan waters, especially during nighttime fishing. Therefore, the BJP government must hold talks with Sri Lanka to secure fishing rights in those waters based on the livelihoods of Tamil Nadu's fishermen.'

To fight e-fraud, Goa cops seek details of ‘high value' sr citizens
Panaji: With an increase in cases of senior citizens falling prey to cyber fraudsters, Goa police on Saturday sought details from banks of senior citizens who are high-net-worth individuals, to protect them better. Goa police are taking proactive measures to safeguard the elderly population from cybercrime by engaging directly with them and providing the necessary information and guidance. In a letter to banks, cybercrime SP Rahul Gupta said that in recent months, digital arrest frauds have shown a worrying rise, with fraudsters particularly targeting senior citizens with high net worth. 'Fraudsters posing as law enforcement or govt officials are deceiving victims into transferring large sums of money under the pretext of involvement in fabricated criminal cases,' he said. 'To proactively address this menace and initiate timely preventive awareness efforts, it is requested that your branch kindly share a list of customers who are senior citizens, maintaining bank balances exceeding Rs 10 lakh, along with their name, residential address, age, and contact number. Over the past nine months, 36 senior citizens were defrauded by cybercriminals. Police said that with the increasing digitisation of banking, communication, and day-to-day services, senior citizens have become soft targets for cybercriminals. 'In Goa, a sizable number of senior citizens have become victims of cybercrimes. From Sep 2024 to date, a total of 36 senior citizens were cheated by fraudsters, and of them, 15 victims faced the trauma of the digital arrest scam ,' Gupta told TOI . Last month, Goa police arrested a Karnataka resident in alleged connection with a major cyber fraud case involving an amount of over Rs 1 crore. The case was registered at the cybercrime police station based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Old Goa. In Nov last year, Kumar Utlasar, 50, a Bengaluru resident, was arrested by the cybercrime cell of Goa police in connection with an alleged high-value investment fraud worth Rs 2.3 crore. A complaint in this case was filed by a resident of Valpoi, Sattari. Goa police on Friday busted an interstate gang for allegedly targeting senior citizens under the pretext of helping them at ATMs to withdraw cash. Police said that the gang members, on the pretext of assisting the ATM users to withdraw cash, took their original cards and handed them fake ones. The criminals then used the original cards at different ATMs to withdraw cash.

Jeweller among 4 held in Jankipuram burglary case
Lucknow: Police on Saturday busted a notorious gang that stole nearly Rs 1 crore worth of gold, silver, and cash from the house of a petrol pump owner in Jankipuram earlier this month. Among the four arrested is a jeweller who used to buy stolen ornaments from the gang and melt them for resale. The sensational burglary took place at the locked residence of petrol pump owner Durgesh Kumar Mishra on June 18. Mishra, who had gone with his family to his sister's house in Bengaluru on May 28 and returned on June 18 to find his house ransacked and valuables missing. The intruders not only broke into locked rooms but also stayed for hours—snacking on dry fruits and chips from the kitchen. Following the incident, ADCP North Jitendra Dubey formed a special investigation team comprising local police, the crime branch, and the surveillance cell. CCTV footage, electronic surveillance, and inputs from informers helped trace the gang. Dubey said that those arrested include Rahul Gupta, the gang leader, a resident of Para. Ramu Rawat, a resident of Sector C, Aliganj, Vimlesh Kumar, a resident of Soharamau, Unnao and Rajeev Rastogi, a 60-year-old goldsmith from Para, who bought the stolen jewellery and melted it to create new ornaments.
