Tyler Childers Played A Surprise Gig At Nashville Sandwich Shop: Watch
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - APRIL 24: Singer/guitarist Tyler Childers performs at PNC Music Pavilion ... More on April 24, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by) Grab a sandwich and hear new tunes from a one-of-a-kind country singer? Sounds like lunch time on a Monday in Nashville. This week, Kentucky troubadour Tyler Childers surprised fans with a pop-up performance at Turkey and the Wolf Icehouse, a buzzy sandwich joint in East Nashville that opened earlier this year. During the noontime patio gig, Childers and his band performed songs from his new Rick Rubin-produced album Snipe Hunter, as well as a cover of Hank Williams' 'Old Country Church' (which Childers released in 2022) and a solo rendition of fan-favorite love tune 'Lady May.' Childers announced the event early Monday, giving fans a few hours to score a spot for the outdoor show. One of the most antipciated country releases of 2025, Snipe Hunter hit streaming services and record store shelves last Friday. A boundry-pushing album that ruminates on religion ("Tirtha Yatra"), delivers rollicking cuts about Koala bears ("Down Under") and serves undeniable snark ("Bitin' List"), Snipe Hunter marks the first collaboration between Childers and Rubin; the album follows Childers' 2023 seven-song LP, Rustin' In The Rain. The surprise Nashville gig included live debuts of the aforementioned 'Bitin' List' and 'Down Under,' as well as takes on new songs like the swampy stream-of-concious rocker 'Eatin' Big Time," newly-recorded country waltz 'Onedia' and groovin' album-closer 'Dirty Ought Trill.' Childers returns to Nashville this fall for two nights at a much larger venue – GEODIS Park. He headlines the soccer stadium Oct. 10 and Oct. 11. Tyler Childers Surprise Nashville Show

Tyler Childers Pines for an Older Woman in New Song ‘Oneida'
Tyler Childers tries in vain to make a connection with an older woman whose taste in music and movies are before his time in the new song 'Oneida.' A fan favorite that Childers has played live for years, the studio version of 'Oneida' appears on Snipe Hunter, the Kentucky songwriter's forthcoming album. 'I lay here awake and I laugh at her jokes/She is referencin' movies I'm too young to know,' he sings in one verse, before acknowledging his youth (and inability to purchase alcohol) in the chorus. 'Oneida I know that I'm younger than most/But I'm willin' if you got the time/to buy us some wine.' Former Orioles minor leaguer Chase Childers dies while saving swimmers
July 18 (UPI) -- Former Baltimore Orioles prospect and police officer Chase Childers, 38, died after helping to rescue swimmers in Pawleys Island, S.C., officials announced. He was 38. "The Cobb County Police Department is mourning the loss of one of our own, former officer Chase Childers, who lost his life this past weekend in South Carolina while selflessly saving others from a rip current," the Cobb County Police Department said Thursday. Pawley's Island police said they received a call at about 4:45 p.m. EDT Sunday with reports of multiple swimmers in distress near Shell Road. A person was reported missing, and police and Midway Fire Rescue started a search, assisted by the Coast Guard. Childers was recovered at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday. Police said his drowning was the fifth in the area over the last 26 months. "The victim, Chase Childers, and another person entered the water to help 4-5 individuals who were in distress," Pawley's Island police said. "Sadly, Mr. Childers was caught in the rip current, as well. He died trying to save others." Childers played at North Cobb Christian High School in Kennesaw, Ga., before going to Georgia State University. Childers joined the Orioles minor league ranks in 2009. The former second baseman and shortstop prospect hit .195 with six doubles, two triples, six steals and 17 RBIs over 50 Rookie League appearances. Childers is survived by his wife, Nataley, and three children, Barrett, Brooks and Bella. A GoFundMe page set up for the Childers family had raised more than $163,000 as of Friday afternoon. "Chase was a truly selfless individual, always prioritizing the safety of others above his own," the Childers family said in a statement. "Without hesitation, he would leap into action whenever someone was in need, ready to tackle any challenge that came his way. "To his family and all who knew him, he will forever be remembered as a hero." Rushing to save swimmers, a former baseball player and police officer loses his life
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Chase Childers, a former minor league baseball player and ex-police officer, has died after rushing into the ocean to save swimmers in a rip current, according to police in South Carolina and a GoFundMe page for his family. Trying to help a family of five, Childers paid 'the highest sacrifice with his life in front of his three children and wife,' according to the fundraiser. Childers died Sunday, the police department for Pawleys Island, which is south of Myrtle Beach, stated in a post on X. Police said he and another person 'entered the water to help 4 - 5 individuals who were in distress. Sadly, Mr. Childers was caught in the rip current, as well. He died trying to save others.' When the family and the other man came back to shore, police, firefighters and the Coast Guard searched for Childers, WCBD-TV in Charleston reported. His body was recovered about 90 minutes later. WCBD-TV reported that Childers, 38, lived in Dallas with his family, but they were vacationing on Pawleys Island. The island's police chief, Michael Fanning, said he believes Childers' 'first responder instincts kicked in' when he saw the family in distress. A rip current is a fast-moving column of water that flows away from the shore toward open water. Officials say swimmers caught in one should remain calm and then swim parallel to the shore to escape the current. Childers grew up in Georgia's Cobb County, which is northeast of Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Childers helped lead the North Cobb Christian School to a state baseball championship in 2003 and continued his baseball career at Georgia State University. Childers signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 2009 and played two seasons in the minor leagues for teams in Florida and West Virginia, according to Childers served as a police officer in Cobb County from 2011 to 2014, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. WCBD-TV reported that he received the Cobb County Police Department Life Saving award in 2012, while the GoFundMe page said he had saved several lives. 'Most importantly, he was a loving son, a dedicated brother, a treasured friend, an exceptional father to his three wonderful children, and the husband of his beautiful wife, Nataley, who had been his soulmate and best friend since they were teenagers,' the GoFundMe page stated.
