Grab a sandwich and hear new tunes from a one-of-a-kind country singer? Sounds like lunch time on a Monday in Nashville.
This week, Kentucky troubadour Tyler Childers surprised fans with a pop-up performance at Turkey and the Wolf Icehouse, a buzzy sandwich joint in East Nashville that opened earlier this year.
During the noontime patio gig, Childers and his band performed songs from his new Rick Rubin-produced album Snipe Hunter, as well as a cover of Hank Williams' 'Old Country Church' (which Childers released in 2022) and a solo rendition of fan-favorite love tune 'Lady May.'
Childers announced the event early Monday, giving fans a few hours to score a spot for the outdoor show.
One of the most antipciated country releases of 2025, Snipe Hunter hit streaming services and record store shelves last Friday. A boundry-pushing album that ruminates on religion ("Tirtha Yatra"), delivers rollicking cuts about Koala bears ("Down Under") and serves undeniable snark ("Bitin' List"), Snipe Hunter marks the first collaboration between Childers and Rubin; the album follows Childers' 2023 seven-song LP, Rustin' In The Rain.
The surprise Nashville gig included live debuts of the aforementioned 'Bitin' List' and 'Down Under,' as well as takes on new songs like the swampy stream-of-concious rocker 'Eatin' Big Time," newly-recorded country waltz 'Onedia' and groovin' album-closer 'Dirty Ought Trill.'
Childers returns to Nashville this fall for two nights at a much larger venue – GEODIS Park. He headlines the soccer stadium Oct. 10 and Oct. 11.

Justin Timberlake Reveals Health Battle After Concert Clips Go Viral

Pop star Justin Timberlake was back in the news cycle last week, and–as is often the case for him these days–it wasn't good. Video footage of the 44-year-old performing in Europe on the final dates of his 'Forget Tomorrow' world tour went viral on social media, with users declaring he appeared tired and disengaged. Now, after wrapping the tour with a July 30 concert in Istanbul, Timberlake revealed in an Instagram post that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. '…I don't say (this) so you feel bad for me –– but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes,' he wrote Thursday. 'If you've experienced this disease or know someone who has — then you're aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically. When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. ' Timberlake didn't mention when he was diagnosed, but said he 'was faced with a personal decision" upon hearing the news: "Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out." '…I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going.' Timberlake's viral concert videos formed the latest chapter in an exceptionally rough year of PR for the 'SexyBack' singer, starting with his DWI arrest in June of 2024. His alleged quote to the police--"This is going to ruin the tour"--became a massive meme. He canceled several U.S. dates, citing struggles with the flu, bronchitis, laryngitis and a back injury. The concerts that continued as planned went under the microscope on TikTok, with users poking fun at stage malfunctions and lackluster moments. In one widely shared clip from a June 28 concert in Dublin, Ireland, Timberlake set his microphone down on stage, instead having his audience sing the beginning of his 2016 hit 'Can't Stop the Feeling!' In Thursday's post, along with heaping praise on his fans, family and touring crew, Timberlake also revealed the 'Forget Tomorrow' tour could possibly have been his last. 'I honestly don't know what my future is onstage,' he wrote, 'but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before ! It's been the stuff of LEGEND for me.'

triple j's Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs: The Complete List

After Aussie music fans lodged more than 2.6 million votes in triple j's historic, first ever Hottest 100 of Australian songs, the results were counted down live from 100 – 1 today across the entire triple j network – triple j, Double J, Unearthed Radio and Hottest – with the top spot ultimately being taken out by INXS's 1988 classic 'Never Tear Us Apart' off their iconic Kick LP. The top 3 was rounded out by Aussie hip-hop veterans' Hilltop Hoods' 2003 anthem 'Nosebleed Section at number #2 and The Veronicas' 'Untouched' at #3. INXS – 'Never Tear Us Apart' A stack of legacy artists bagged multiple entries, with INXS also snagging the #59th spot on the list with 'Need You Tonight', Hilltop Hoods bagging an additional two spots with 'Hilltop Hoods – '1955 [Ft. Montaigne, Tom Thum]' coming in at #73 and 'Cosby Sweater' at #64. Elsewhere, Jimmy Barnes and Bernard Fanning both got a big guernsey, with Barnsey getting up with 'Working Class Man' (#56) as well as a pair of Cold Chisel tracks – 'Khe Sanh' and 'Flame Trees' voted in back-to-back at #7 and #8 in the top 10. Fanning snagged four total entries with his solo track 'Wish You Well' hitting #57, and Powderfinger Odyssey Number 5 banger 'My Happiness' cracking the top 10 at #6, while 'These Days' came in at #14 and '(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind' nabbed #70. Meanwhile, other veteran acts live Crowded House, Midnight Oil, AC/DC and Silverchair all nabbed three songs apiece. On the more modern side of things, Gang Of Youths also scored a hattrick (#87 'The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows', #60 'Let Me Down Easy', #42 'Magnolia'). The newest song to make the countdown was Amyl & The Sniffers' 'Hertz' from 2021, voted in at #89. Triple j's decision to launch the first ever Australian-only Hottest 100 ballot coincides with the youth broadcaster celebrating its 50th year on air, and follows criticism off the back of January's Hottest 100 of 2024, which was widely noted for its lack of local representation in favour of big international superstars such as Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Lola Young, Gracie Abrams, Kendrick Lamar and Fred Again dominating the countdown. ‘Architecton' Review: A Lesson Among Ruins

With 'Architecton,' the documentary filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky turns his vigorous and ruminative gaze to one of the most used substances on Earth: concrete. If that topic sounds sobering, it is. This transfixing documentary (photographed by Ben Bernard) asks what humans can glean from the epochs when stone, the precursor to concrete, was a go-to building material. As the film opens, a drone camera pulls back to reveal a number of apartment buildings that have been bombed. (A banner on one declares 'Kick Russia Out of Ukraine.') The film then shifts to a solitary figure considering a megalith in a quarry in Lebanon. It's a juxtaposition that speaks to the film's sweep of philosophical ambition but also betrays a chilliness. A roving dog and a wandering tortoise get cameos. The inhabitants of the decimated cities in Ukraine and earthquake-razed Turkey don't. The septuagenarian pondering the slab in Lebanon turns out to be the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, the film's other subject. Or perhaps more accurately, its respondent. In a film of few words, he and Kossakovsky have an unexpected conversation near the movie's end about the role concrete (and by association, architects) play in devouring the planet's resources and defacing its cities. Throughout the film, Kossakovsky intercuts his visual reckonings with moments of De Lucchi overseeing the construction of a circle of stone in his garden. Also making appearances: Abdul Nabi al-Afi, a preserver of the Baalbek quarry in Lebanon and the installation artist Nick Steur, who works with stone. 'Architecton' is as gorgeous as it is grave. The score (by Evgueni Galperine) and sound design (by Aleksandr Dudarev) contribute mightily to the film's heavy lifting. ArchitectonRated G. In Italian and English with subtitles. Running time: 1 hour 38 minutes. In theaters.
