Agravat has been charged with abetment to suicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Varmora was found hanging at her residence in Navsari Bazar on June 8. Police said the investigation indicated that Agravat frequently subjected her to casteist slurs. Call detail records showed she made multiple calls to him before taking her life, pleading for him to come and meet her.
Her mother, Daksha Varmora, filed a complaint alleging that Agravat kept deferring their wedding using various excuses. The couple had been in a relationship for four years and got engaged two years ago. Their marriage, initially scheduled for this year, was postponed to next year following the death of Agravat's mother.
Agravat is yet to be arrested.
Police also reviewed Anjali's social media accounts and found two emotionally charged Instagram posts, hinting at deep personal distress.
The case is now being investigated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) M.D. Upadhyay from the Surat Police SC/ST Cell.
