Agravat has been charged with abetment to suicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Varmora was found hanging at her residence in Navsari Bazar on June 8. Police said the investigation indicated that Agravat frequently subjected her to casteist slurs. Call detail records showed she made multiple calls to him before taking her life, pleading for him to come and meet her.
Her mother, Daksha Varmora, filed a complaint alleging that Agravat kept deferring their wedding using various excuses. The couple had been in a relationship for four years and got engaged two years ago. Their marriage, initially scheduled for this year, was postponed to next year following the death of Agravat's mother.
Agravat is yet to be arrested.
Police also reviewed Anjali's social media accounts and found two emotionally charged Instagram posts, hinting at deep personal distress.
The case is now being investigated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) M.D. Upadhyay from the Surat Police SC/ST Cell.

Dalit man ‘dies by suicide' in Faridabad; in FIR, son blames neighbour's ‘failure to control pet dogs'

A case was registered after a Dalit sanitation worker allegedly died by suicide at his house in Faridabad Friday morning, the police said. The deceased was identified as Jagan, 50, from Kalyanpuri. Officers said his son, Kapil, 27, filed a complaint alleging that their neighbour Khushiram's failure to control his five pet dogs caused distress to Jagan. Following Jagan's death, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the neighbour at SGM Nagar police station, invoking the offence of abetment to suicide and sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Kapil's complaint stated that the incident took place around 5.30 am on Friday. He alleged that Khushiram's dogs roamed freely, damaging Jagan's motorcycle and scooter seats and scattering garbage. Despite Jagan's repeated requests to Khushiram to restrain the dogs, the issue persisted, with the latter allegedly arguing and misbehaving. Kapil noted that Jagan had reported the matter to the NH3 NIT police post and the Faridabad Municipal Corporation, but no action was taken, adding to his distress. The police were informed of Jagan's death at 7.20 am, and the body was sent to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for autopsy. Inspector Ranbir Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), SGM Nagar police station, told The Indian Express, 'The neighbour had a habit of regularly feeding many stray dogs, and they would gather around his house often for the same. It appears that these dogs caused the issue. The deceased was a Dalit. The investigation is on. We have not made any arrests yet. The accused will be called to give a statement.' Delhi Court declares arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari a fugitive economic offender

New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): A Delhi special court on Saturday declared UK-based arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari a Fugitive Economic Offender under the Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO) Act, in connection with an income tax case involving undisclosed foreign assets. The order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal following a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which alleged that Bhandari had deliberately evaded Indian legal proceedings and possessed foreign assets exceeding Rs 100 crore. The agency emphasised that the UK court's refusal to extradite Bhandari had no bearing on the current proceedings, which are independent and governed by Indian law. Bhandari, however, contested the ED's plea, arguing that his residence in the UK is lawful and backed by a ruling from the London High Court, which denied his extradition, citing concerns over his safety in Tihar jail. His counsel, senior advocate Maninder Singh, claimed the ED's application was vague, lacked jurisdiction, and failed to meet the legal threshold under the FEO Act. Singh further argued that the monetary value of the alleged offence did not exceed 100 crore, referencing a 2020 submission by the Income Tax Department. He also pointed out that Bhandari had been discharged by the UK High Court, and no fresh warrants were pending against him. Special Public Prosecutor Zoheb Hossain appeared for the Enforcement Directorate in the matter. The UK High Court had earlier blocked Bhandari's extradition on human rights grounds, citing risks of extortion and violence in Indian custody. The Indian government's subsequent attempt to challenge the decision in Britain's Supreme Court was also rejected. (ANI)
