Birangana trailer unveiled: A gripping tale of justice, rebellion and a chilling killer
Birangana's trailer unveils a gripping crime thriller where S.I. Chitra Basu, portrayed by Sandipta Sen, challenges a flawed justice system while investigating suspicious bride 'suicides'. Niranjan Mondal debuts as Chirayu Talukdar, a chilling florist with a dark secret. The series explores themes of resistance and justice, promising a bold narrative with layered characters and haunting visuals. The trailer of Birangana , a bold new crime thriller, has just been unveiled, promising a powerful blend of suspense, social commentary, and riveting performances. Set against the backdrop of a justice system teetering on silence, the series delves into the dark underbelly of society through the eyes of a tenacious female officer and a disturbingly composed killer. In a never-seen-before avatar, actor Sandipta Sen takes on the role of S.I. Chitra Basu — a sharp, unyielding police officer who refuses to bow to institutional apathy. Navigating a system reluctant to hear voices like hers, Chitra launches a parallel investigation into a series of so-called suicides, convinced there's more beneath the surface. With fierce conviction and intuitive grit, she emerges as both investigator and disruptor — a quiet rebel challenging the status quo. Opposite her is Niranjan Mondal, widely known for his stage presence as Laughtersane, who makes a debut in long-format fiction as Chirayu Talukdar — a florist with a dark secret. The trailer reveals disturbing glimpses into his character — a serial killer who hides chilling intentions behind a calm, calculated exterior. His understated menace and psychological depth leave an unsettling impression that lingers long after the trailer ends. The ensemble cast further adds weight to the narrative: Pratik Dutta portrays IPS Dhiraj Sinha, Aditya Sengupta plays Chitra's husband Aniruddha, Anirban Bhattacharya takes on the role of Balaram Boral, and Sreya Bhattacharya stars as Mitra Basu, Chitra's younger sister. Adding a unique layer of authenticity is Shri Aloke Kumar Sanyal, Deputy Commissioner of the 6th Battalion, Kolkata Armed Police, who not only features in the cast but lends real-world experience to the story's portrayal of law enforcement. The trailer outlines the chilling premise — three brides, poisoned on their wedding night, in what authorities dismiss as suicides. But Chitra sees a pattern the system refuses to acknowledge. Her pursuit of truth pits her against not only a cold-blooded killer but also the deeply entrenched silence of those meant to serve justice. To mark the trailer's unveiling, a symbolic launch event was held at the historic Alipore Jail Museum — once home to freedom fighters, now transformed into the perfect stage for a series about resistance and resilience. 'Chitra Basu doesn't just exist in a broken system, she challenges it,' said Sandipta at the launch. She added, 'There's fire in her voice, but also pain. This role demanded everything from silence to storm.' 'Chirayu is unlike anyone I've played,' shared Niranjan adding, 'He's calm, calculated, and dangerously composed. For me, it was about exploring the silence between words — the menace that whispers instead of screams.' Birangana is not merely a whodunit — it's a whydunit, a howdunit, and most importantly, a cry for justice in a world that prefers to look away. With its haunting visuals, layered characters, and an unapologetically bold tone, this thriller looks set to redefine the genre.

Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home vandalised in Bangladesh days after parking dispute
The ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was vandalised on Tuesday in Bangladesh's Sirajganj district, two days after a parking dispute in the premises, state-owned news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported. The vandalisation at the Rabindra Kacharibari, or the Rabindra Memorial Museum, led to sharp condemnation in India from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress. On June 8, an altercation broke out at the memorial between a visitor and a staffer about a parking fee. The situation escalated when staff members allegedly confined the visitor in an office room, sparking public outrage, the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported. On June 10, a group of residents organised a human chain and protest rally near the Kacharibari. During their protest, a group of demonstrators entered the museum premises and vandalised its auditorium, the news agency reported. Bangladesh' Department of Archaeology formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident and assess damages. It is expected to submit its report within five days. The site has since been closed to visitors. The police have filed a case against 50 to 60 persons in connection with the incident, The Daily Star reported. However, no arrests have been made yet. The two-storey Kachharibari was bought by Dwarkanath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather in 1840, according to The Daily Star. The poet spent a significant amount of time there, creating many of his notable literary works including Bishorjon, Sonar Tori, Chitra and Meyeli Chhara. Indian politicians condemn vandalism Leaders from both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress condemned the vandalism and demanded that Bangladeshi authorities act against the culprits. 'Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality,' BJP MP Sambit Patra said. 'When his house has been attacked, his way of thinking has been attacked, we appeal to the world community to come together against this.' #WATCH | Delhi: On the attack on Rabindranath Tagore's house in Bangladesh, BJP MP Sambit Patra says, "Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality. Mothers, the Silent Pillars: ‘We are who we are today because of our mothers' love & sacrifices'
Their mothers never sought the spotlight, but their influence runs deep. This Mother's Day, Tollywood celebs reflect on how their mothers' everyday acts of care, sacrifice, and quiet encouragement have profoundly shaped their lives and careers. 'My mother's struggles inspired the character of Chitra in Pelli Choopulu ' 'As a kid, I remember my mom choosing to walk miles just to save money. My mom, who was initially a homemaker, began working as a teacher with my dad's encouragement. She played a dual role — both a housewife and a teacher. She always supported my artistic side and gave me whatever I needed to express myself. She never said it out loud, but I soon realised that things were financially tough at home during my childhood. Watching all of that deeply impacted me — it inspired me to write the character of Chitra in Pelli Choopulu.' — Tharun Bhascker , actor-director-writer Dhaassyam Sangeeth Shobhan with his mother Soujanya Shoban 'Everything I know about life and the industry, I learned from my mom' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invest $200 in Amazon without buying stocks to earn a second salary Marketsall Sign Up Undo 'I lost my father at a very young age, so I didn't have enough time with him to understand how he could have shaped me.
