Sweden's H&M Group signs strategic sourcing partnership with Circulose

H&M Group has signed a multi-year agreement to source significant volumes of the innovative material CIRCULOSE for its collections, replacing a substantial share of the virgin viscose used across the group. One of the biggest barriers for the fashion industry when shifting towards a circular model, is the lack of alternatives and technologies at scale to replace virgin and conventional fibres. Agreements like this represent a shift in making this a reality and help fashion brands like us increase the use of textile-to-textile recycled fibres. H&M Group has signed a multi-year deal to source large volumes of Circulose, a recycled material, to replace a significant portion of its virgin viscose use. The agreement strengthens H&M's push towards circular fashion and supports the scale-up of textile-to-textile recycling. Both H&M and Circulose highlight the partnership as a vital step toward broader industry adoption of sustainable materials. 'H&M Group has been a driving force in advancing sustainable and circular solutions in fashion, and a long-time supporter and early adopter of CIRCULOSE – dating back to the Renewcell days. We're proud and grateful to now formalize this new partnership to accelerate CIRCULOSE adoption at scale. Their commitment plays a critical role in helping us reaching the volumes needed to restart our factory,' Jonatan Janmark, CEO of Circulose 'We were pioneers back in 2020 when we first brought fashion made from CIRCULOSE to our customers. Today, we're excited to deepen this partnership. Investing in next-generation materials is essential to achieving our goal: ensuring that 100% of our materials are recycled or sustainably sourced by 2030. Scaling access to these solutions is key to accelerating the shift towards a circular economy for fashion,' Cecilia Strömblad Brännsten, H&M Group's Head of Resource Use & Circularity. Circulose, H&M boost efforts to expand circular materials use in fashion

Since 2020, H&M has pioneered the integration of Circulose into their product lines. The new agreement cements their role as one of Circulose's inaugural Scaling Partners, with H&M aiming to replace a significant portion of its man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCF) with Circulose-derived fibres. Circulose, developed from repurposed textiles, represents an advanced material that enables fashion brands to progress towards a circular fashion model by decreasing dependence on new, virgin fibres without compromising on quality and functionality. Circulose CEO Jonatan Janmark said: 'H&M Group has been a driving force in advancing sustainable and circular solutions in fashion, and a long-time supporter and early adopter of Circulose- dating back to the Renewcell days. We're proud and grateful to now formalise this new partnership to accelerate Circulose adoption at scale. Their commitment plays a critical role in helping us reaching the volumes needed to restart our factory.' The collaboration is in line with Circulose's commercial strategy, focusing on brand cooperation, offering dedicated support for implementation and introducing a novel licensing-based pricing structure. This pricing model was devised in conjunction with Fashion for Good and Canopy to streamline the expansion of next-generation materials. H&M Group's Resource Use & Circularity head Cecilia Strömblad Brännsten said: 'We were pioneers back in 2020 when we first brought fashion made from Circulose to our customers. Today, we're excited to deepen this partnership. Investing in next-generation materials is essential to achieving our goal: ensuring that 100% of our materials are recycled or sustainably sourced by 2030. Scaling access to these solutions is key to accelerating the shift towards a circular economy for fashion.' The announcement follows Circulose's decision to appoint Helena Helmersson, former CEO of H&M Group known for her dedication to sustainability initiatives, as chairman of its board. New platform to expedite adoption of Circulose in fashion supply chain

Circulose is a 'dissolving pulp,' made entirely made from recycled textiles. It serves as a raw material for producing various regenerated fibres such as viscose, lyocell, modal, and acetate, collectively known as man-made cellulosic fibres. The platform, launched in collaboration with Canopy, a non-profit focused on solutions, includes the Circulose Material Library, Circulose Forward Priced Materials, a Price Calculator, and an expanded network of suppliers. Circulose CEO Jonatan Janmark said: "Scaling up next-gen materials is not straightforward. To enable adoption at scale and at pace, we need to make integration into brands' supply chains seamless. Circulose Forward is a key initiative to make that happen." Canopy founder and executive director Nicole Rycroft said: 'We're proud to support partner with Circulose's on the launch of Circulose Forward. This platform provides practical, scalable solutions that align with both climate science and market needs. It's the kind of innovation that helps the industry leave deforestation in the past and move decisively toward a resilient, low-carbon, Next -Gen future.' Circulose Material Library, which is the first rollout under the new platform, features a range of commercially available fabrics and yarns made with Circulose , showcasing their aesthetic, functional, and other properties. The Circulose Forward Priced Materials are part of the Material Library, adhering to the Circulose Forward Price Logic that aims to prevent unnecessary price increases throughout the supply chain. The Circulose Forward Price Calculator is an innovative tool designed to help brands calculate the cost implications of incorporating Circulose into their materials or finished garments. While still under development, Circulose has provided a preview of the Circulose Forward platform on its website. 'This is just the beginning. Circulose Forward will continue to grow, giving our partners access to a robust portfolio of tools that make circularity not a distant vision – but a reality today,' Janmark added. In February, Circulose joined Canopy to promote sustainable fibres while helping to fight against the use of forests in textile supply chains. Circulose and Mango Team Up to Scale Circular Cellulose

Swedish sustain-tech company Circulose has landed a pretty big partner in its quest to scale after rising from the ashes of its Renewcell past. The textile recycler has joined forces with Barcelona-based global fashion chain Mango to help them shift a meaningful share of their man-made cellulosic fiber use to those made with Circulose's proprietary material. Circulose is a regenerated material made from 100-percent recycled textile waste. Since returning to the market last year, Circulose has been focused on commercializing its circular product. More from Sourcing Journal Lenzing's Krishna Manda Addressed Circularity on the Global Fashion Summit Stage Re&Up Products Achieve C2C Certified Circularity ESG Outlook: Rachel Lee of Hydefy on Alt Materials from Yellowstone National Park Fungi 'We're proud to partner with the forward-thinking brand Mango and support their high ambitions in circularity,' said Jonatan Janmark, CEO of Circulose. 'Their strong commitment brings us one step closer to restarting the factory and sets a powerful example for the industry. We hope it will inspire other brands to follow their lead.' Circulose's commercial strategy focuses on forging close brand partnerships, introducing a new pricing model and offering expanded support services. The company developed its pricing model in collaboration with Fashion for Good and Canopy as part of a joint initiative to accelerate the shift to next-gen materials, requiring brands to license Circulose to use the fiber. The strategy was designed to reduce price friction and spur adoption at scale, transitioning from limited capsule collections to larger-scale usage. That license includes support services for large-scale implementation, such as transition planning, supply chain orchestration and traceability. Circulose recently forged a partnership with former Renewcell collaborator Tangshan Sanyou, a Chinese man-made cellulosic fiber manufacturer that was the first commercial producer of Circulose-based fibers under Renewcell's purview. Tangsan Sanyou was the first major partnership since Circulose's restructuring after it was acquired by Swedish private equity firm Altor in 2024. Mango's buy-in with Circulose comes at a time when the company is riding high after a 19 percent increase in EBITDA earnings and a 27 percent bump in net profit in 2024. The company recently reported that it had made significant progress toward achieving its goal of using 100 percent lower environmental impact fibers by 2030, reaching 72 percent. The Circulose partnership will help Mango make more headway in attaining that goal. 'We're proud to be the first brand to partner in Circulose's new phase and look forward to working closely together to advance our shared circularity goal,' said Andrés Fernández, sustainability and sourcing director at Mango. 'This collaboration marks a significant step on our sustainability roadmap as we strive to exclusively use fibres with lower environmental impact by 2030 and reflects our commitment to fostering a more circular and responsible fashion ecosystem, where innovation and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.'
