Coldplay's Career-Making Singles Become Hits Again

(Photo by) After taking a few weeks off in mid-to-late June, Coldplay is back on the road as its years-long Music of the Spheres World Tour continues. The trek began in 2022 and isn't set to end until September of this year. The group will return to London for 10 dates at Wembley Stadium, which will serve as a fitting end to one of the highest-grossing concert treks of all time. The pop-rock band recently picked things back up in Toronto and is set to continue throughout the United States in July. Several of Coldplay's beloved tracks make their way back onto the Official Singles chart in the U.K. as fans revisit the classics and continue to fall in love with a newly-viral cut. "Viva La Vida" and "Yellow" Return Both "Viva La Vida" and "Yellow" reenter the Official Singles chart this week. That tally ranks the most-consumed tunes throughout the U.K., blending both sales and streaming activity to reflect what people in the country are actually listening to. "Viva La Vida" returns at No. 95, while "Yellow" comes in at No. 99. Three Hits for Coldplay Coldplay currently fills three spaces on the Official Singles chart, the most allowed for any musical act in a lead role at one time. "Sparks" jumps from No. 48 to No. 44, nearing its all-time peak position of No. 40. Interestingly, all three of Coldplay's tracks that land on the most competitive songs ranking in the group's home country are years old, as none come from any of the outfit's more recent projects. It seems that fans of the Grammy winners in the U.K. are comfortable revisiting the albums that made the group so famous in the first place, and focusing their buying and streaming on some of the biggest wins. 'The Scientist' Is Also A Top Streamer "Viva La Vida" and "Yellow" also find space on the Official Streaming chart, where they are joined by "The Scientist." Those three tracks settle at Nos. 75, 77, and 95, respectively, with only "Yellow" managing to hold steady while the other two drop from where they sat last frame.

Coldplay's Chris Martin says he didn't mean to insult Rogers Stadium after calling it 'weird'
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says he didn't mean to insult Toronto's newest concert venue when he called it a "weird stadium in the middle of nowhere." Martin issued the clarification Friday during the third of four concerts at the newly built Rogers Stadium, which is on the outskirts of the city. He says he "never criticized" the stadium and only meant to thank concertgoers for making the trek to the former Downsview Airport lands. When he first took the stage on Monday, he thanked fans for putting up with "the traffic and the travel and the trains and the waiting" to get to the venue. Concertgoers had complained about poor crowd control at the 50,000-capacity stadium when it first opened last month, and some said it was a hassle getting out of the venue even after Coldplay's first show. At Friday's show, Martin said he only meant to thank people for putting up with the hassle of getting to the venue, not to insult the people who built the stadium. "I have never criticized this stadium that was beautifully, kindly built for us to play in. I don't think to say anything mean at all. I'm so grateful to have somewhere where we can hang out with all of you," he said.
