First trial run of Pune Metro Line 3 conducted between Maan depot and Wipro Circle

Pune: The much-anticipated Pune Metro Line 3, which will connect Hinjawadi IT Park with Shivajinagar, achieved a key milestone on Friday with the successful completion of its first trial run. The trial was carried out between Maan Depot and PMR04 station (Wipro) as part of the project's internal system checks. The 23.3-km fully elevated corridor is being developed under public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in collaboration with Tata Group-led Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. It brings us closer to delivering a state-of-the-art, sustainable transport solution for Pune," said Pathan. The corridor will feature 23 stations and integrate with existing Pune Metro lines to offer seamless urban connectivity. It is expected to dramatically improve commute times, ease traffic congestion, and provide a safer and greener transport alternative for Pune's growing urban population. Four sleek, modern metro train sets supplied by global manufacturer Alstom have already arrived in the city. Each train comprises three fully air-conditioned coaches with a total carrying capacity of approximately 1,000 passengers. Designed for smooth and silent operation, the trains run on a 750V DC third-rail electrification system and can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h. The corridor will also be equipped with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling technology, known for its high safety standards and efficient headway management. With a strategic route through the city's IT and business districts, the line is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially those working in the Hinjawadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. Urban mobility experts believe the completion of Pune Metro Line 3 will be a game-changer for the city's public transport network and will contribute to reducing vehicular emissions and road congestion in the long term.
