Pune: The much-anticipated Pune Metro Line 3, which will connect Hinjawadi IT Park with Shivajinagar, achieved a key milestone on Friday with the successful completion of its first trial run.
The trial was carried out between Maan Depot and PMR04 station (Wipro) as part of the project's internal system checks.
The 23.3-km fully elevated corridor is being developed under public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in collaboration with Tata Group-led Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd.

As of July 4, the project has recorded 87% completion, marking a significant progress towards its target of commencing commercial operations by March 2026.
The appointed date for the project was Nov 25, 2021, said Rinaj Pathan, chief superintending engineer, PMRDA.
Friday's trial run focused on verifying Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) compliance along the viaduct and stations and conducting internal systems validation. Officials said the initial tests mark the beginning of an intensive phase of operational readiness and safety checks ahead of full-fledged trials.

"This trial run is a significant moment for the Pune Metro Line 3 project. It brings us closer to delivering a state-of-the-art, sustainable transport solution for Pune," said Pathan.
The corridor will feature 23 stations and integrate with existing Pune Metro lines to offer seamless urban connectivity. It is expected to dramatically improve commute times, ease traffic congestion, and provide a safer and greener transport alternative for Pune's growing urban population.
Four sleek, modern metro train sets supplied by global manufacturer Alstom have already arrived in the city. Each train comprises three fully air-conditioned coaches with a total carrying capacity of approximately 1,000 passengers. Designed for smooth and silent operation, the trains run on a 750V DC third-rail electrification system and can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h. The corridor will also be equipped with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling technology, known for its high safety standards and efficient headway management.
With a strategic route through the city's IT and business districts, the line is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially those working in the Hinjawadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park.
Urban mobility experts believe the completion of Pune Metro Line 3 will be a game-changer for the city's public transport network and will contribute to reducing vehicular emissions and road congestion in the long term.

In the fifth year of CM Dhami's tenure, tax recovery in Uttarakhand is set for a major tech upgrade

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami (ANI) As chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami enters the fifth year of his tenure, the tax collection landscape in Uttarakhand is poised for a significant transformation. The state's tax system is being enhanced with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), aimed at making collections more efficient and robust. A proposal worth Rs 12 crore from the State Tax Department has received in-principle approval. The use of AI is expected to boost collections under both SGST (State Goods and Services Tax) and VAT (Value Added Tax). According to IS Brijwal, Additional Commissioner of the State Tax Department, efforts are underway — under the chief minister's directive — to further streamline and modernize the tax collection system. A comprehensive framework has already been prepared. While the department has already been leveraging technology, it is now preparing to implement AI-based systems. The government has given its in-principle nod to the department's proposal, and AI-based systems will soon become a reality in the state's revenue machinery. Promising signs in just three months In the first quarter of the current financial year, the department has already recorded encouraging results. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo SGST collections have reached Rs 2,457 crore — 22% of the annual target for FY 2025–26. VAT collections for the same period stand at Rs 658 crore, achieving 26% of the annual target. Combined, these figures show the department has achieved 23% of its total target within the first three months of the year. Target of Rs 13,722 crore for FY 2025–26 The State Tax Department has set an ambitious revenue collection target of Rs 13,722 crore for this financial year — Rs 11,221 crore from SGST and Rs 2,501 crore from VAT. In comparison, the previous year's target was Rs 12,703 crore (Rs 10,200 crore from SGST and Rs 2,503 crore from VAT). The department achieved 93% of the total target last year, with VAT collection even surpassing the goal by reaching 102%. 'We are strengthening the tax collection system in the interest of the state. Our goal is to ensure that the revenue collected through taxes is maximised and effectively used for public welfare initiatives," CM Dhami said.

Crude ouput: OPEC+ opens oil tap wider before planned August hike, raising fears of price fall

OPEC+ will raise oil production faster than earlier planned in August, with eight key alliance members agreeing to increase output by 548,000 barrels a day, delegates said on Saturday after a virtual meeting. This is higher than the 411,000-barrel hikes announced for May, June and July, which were already triple the initial plan. Traders had anticipated the same increase for August, making the latest move a further acceleration. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners, led by Saudi Arabia, have changed course since April by prioritising market share over price control. The group has begun reviving supply that was previously cut, surprising traders and raising questions about its long-term approach. Brent crude futures have dropped 8.5% in 2025 so far due to the extra supply and concerns around demand amid President Trump's trade war and its impact on the global economy. Still, delegates said the short-term demand outlook appears stronger, especially in the northern hemisphere's summer. US refiners are processing the most crude for this time of year since 2019, and diesel prices have surged. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scientists: Tinnitus? When tinnitus won't go away, do this (Watch) Hearing Magazine Undo Different reasons have been cited for the sudden shift in strategy—from meeting summer fuel demand to penalising over-producing members and regaining lost market share from US shale drillers. Officials said Saudi Arabia is keen to restart idle capacity quickly. The larger August hike puts OPEC+ on track to return 2.2 million barrels a day of halted production by September, a full year ahead of the original timeline. Live Events 'With OPEC+ having pivoted to a market share over a price defence strategy, it was pointless to keep a notional voluntary cut in place,' said Harry Tchilinguirian, group head of research at Onyx Capital Group. 'It was best to get it over and done with it, and simply move on.' However, the actual increase may be smaller. The group has repeatedly failed to hit announced targets, as Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman urges some members to make up for past oversupply. Kazakhstan, which has regularly exceeded its quota, continues to produce significantly above its assigned levels. Traders had mostly expected another 411,000-barrel daily hike for August, according to a Bloomberg survey. Initial talks among delegates also leaned in that direction. The additional barrels may please President Trump, who has pushed for lower oil prices to support the US economy and wants the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. But the increase also risks worsening a supply surplus. Oil inventories are growing by around 1 million barrels a day as China's demand weakens and production rises across the US, Guyana, Canada and Brazil. According to the International Energy Agency in Paris, markets are likely to face a major surplus later this year. Banks like JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs predict prices could fall towards $60 a barrel or lower by the fourth quarter. Prices had jumped during last month's conflict between Iran and Israel but quickly fell again once it was clear that oil supply was not affected. Saudi Arabia now faces the challenge of balancing higher export volumes with the impact of falling prices. The kingdom is already dealing with a ballooning budget deficit and has had to cut spending on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's major projects. Meanwhile, OPEC+ co-leader Russia is grappling with a worsening economic outlook and the threat of a banking crisis, as President Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine continues to drain resources. Falling prices are also affecting US shale producers . A recent survey of US shale executives showed they now expect to drill far fewer wells than they had planned at the start of 2025, citing weaker oil prices and uncertainty due to Trump's tariff policies.
