Government told to count ‘content creator' as a real job
YouTube is advocating for " content creator" to be formally recognised as a job, stating that a lack of official status hinders the industry's growth.
The company claims formal recognition would provide creators with better access to support, including financing, mortgages, and proper representation on official bodies.
These findings stem from YouTube's first "Creator Consultation," a nationwide process in the UK, where the creator economy is valued at over £2bn.
Based on creator feedback, YouTube is proposing government recognition, including appointing a "Minister for Creators," improved industry representation, and enhanced skills training.
YouTube is already in discussions with the UK government regarding these proposals and is launching initiatives like a "Content Incubator" to support creators.
