Cowboys Have Young 'Building Block' For Brian Schottenheimer
Cowboys Have Young 'Building Block' For Brian Schottenheimer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When Cooper Beebe won the Dallas Cowboys' starting center role from Brock Hoffman last offseason, many were unsure how the guard would transition to being "the" guy along the offensive line. Advertisement Well, he was just fine. In fact, he is better than fine as Beebe handled everything thrown at him with aplomb, and now, with Brian Schottenheimer as the leading voice behind what we think will be a run-first offense, Beebe is expected to continue his ascension as part of his new-look, youthful offensive line. As such, Bleacher Report has named Beebe as Dallas' promising building block. "As a rookie last year, Beebe earned the starting job," Bleacher Report writes. "All-Pro guard Zack Martin retired. So, Dallas has a young trio on the interior of its offensive line. Tyler Smith is an established two-time Pro Bowler who can also line up at left tackle if Tyler Guyton continues to struggle as a starter. Tyler Booker is a rookie first-rounder who has to showcase his potential this year. Beebe could be the all-important centerpiece of that triumvirate." Advertisement (Scott Galvin-Imagn Images) We don't have to look back too far to see the benefits of having a foundational center being at the top of their game and how it helps the offense run, with Travis Frederick the main one who comes to mind (recently), so too Tyler Biadasz. Is Cooper the next one in line? Yeah, we think so. What's thrilling about where the Dallas O-line can go here is that while Beebe is a fine pick ... did we mention that Smith is a young All-Pro? Did we mention that Booker projects to be right there with him? But as for the center? After being so calm and steady in his rookie season, handling the checks at the line of scrimmage with Dak Prescott and then Cooper Rush, Beebe showed he could be the heartbeat of the offensive line. Advertisement And when you are that, you can be a franchise building block, which is exactly what we think Cooper has the potential to be. Cowboys' Two PFF Breakout Candidates Would Make Dallas Dreams Come True
Cowboys' Two PFF Breakout Candidates Would Make Dallas Dreams Come True originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — If the Dallas Cowboys are going to take a leap from last year's dismal 7-10 result into being in the 2025 NFL playoff hunt? Advertisement Yes, a great deal of that progress will be due to the work of team leader Dak Prescott. This is, after all, a quarterback league. And in addition to the highest-priced-ever Dak living up to his $60 million APY contract, other stars — Micah Parsons, Tyler Smith, CeeDee Lamb, DaRon Bland and their ilk — must also excel. But what about the lesser lights? Pro Football Focus' "NFL Show" is identifying at least one player from each franchise who is poised for a breakout season in 2025. And in Dallas' case, PFF came up with two players. Dalton Wasserman tabbed second-year offensive lineman Cooper Beebe as the Cowboys breakout candidate. Advertisement Trevor Sikkema went with veteran free agent running back Javonte Williams. Wasserman calls Beebe, who made the transition from college guard to NFL center and quickly became a starter last year, an 'anchor.' Sikkema concedes that former Denver Broncos starting back Williams has long been one of his picks to click in this regard ... so maybe there's some bias there. But here's the bottom line about PFF's thoughts: Let's say they're right. Let's say they're even kind of right ... And that Beebe (who was a third-round pick in the 2024 draft) doesn't exactly "break out'' but that he improves greatly from his solid rookie season. Advertisement And the same with Javonte (who was a second-round pick in the 2021 draft), that he experiences an impactful season similar to his rookie year in Denver, when he recorded 203 carries for 903 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and four rushing touchdowns, plus 43 catches for 319 yards and three receiving touchdowns. If Beebe is better and if Williams is that? If they experience "career years'' (even though relatively modest ones)? It won't have to all be on Dak, Micah, Tyler Smith, CeeDee, DaRon and their ilk. And the Cowboys won't be dismal in 2025. Cowboys Celebrate Conference Championship with Dallas Stars
Three of the four major professional sports teams in the Dallas Fort-Worth Metroplex have made their respective conference championship (or further) at least once since 2023. You can probably guess the one that is late to the party. Advertisement However, it was the Dallas Cowboys who actually started the party ... but now all of their cross-town compadres have caught up since the last time Jerry Jones' Cowboys reigned supreme. Even though they haven't appeared in the NFC championship game since 1996, the Cowboys social media pages - and players - made sure to congratulate the latest postseason win for their neighbors. Saturday at the American Airlines Center, the Dallas Stars hockey club defeated the Winnipeg Jets in a thrilling Game 7 overtime finish to advance to the Western Conference finals series. The Cowboys posted a hilarious clip of starting center Cooper Beebe in pure euphoria to celebrate the win. Advertisement Beebe has been extremely invested in following the Stars' playoff run this season. The Cowboys reposted a status where he was praising the Dallas goalkeeper Jake Oettinger, saying he's the "best goalie I've ever seen." The clip of Beebe hyping up the Stars' faithful originally came from Tuesday night's 3-1 victory that put Dallas up three games to two over Winnipeg. The Jets answered with a dominant Game 6 in Canada that forced Saturday's Game 7 in Dallas. Beebe was joined by nearly the entire offensive line room to watch Game 5 in a suite and cheer for the Stars. This is the Stars' third consecutive trip to the conference finals. They made the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, but lost in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The franchise's lone Stanley Cup title came in 1999. Advertisement The Dallas Mavericks, who also play in the AAC in downtown Dallas, reached the NBA Finals last season after a Western Conference championship series berth in 2022. Those runs ended in losses, with their last league championship coming in 2011. The Texas Rangers, who play in their games at Globe Life Field just a Joe Milton-throw away from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, are the team with the most recent postseason success, winning the World Series in 2023. Then there's the Cowboys ... and their five Super Bowl titles. Because of the influence of "America's Team" on the city's culture - especially during their run in the '90s of three Super Bowl wins in five seasons - many residents will still claim Dallas as a football town. Advertisement But those who aren't young enough to remember - who were born in '96 and going on 30 years old - may beg to differ. Cowboys announce $5M in performance-based bonuses; this unlikely player got biggest bump
Cowboys announce $5M in performance-based bonuses; this unlikely player got biggest bump Cooper Beebe found out this week that he earned a hefty bonus for what he did in his rookie season, as did several other Cowboys players for their on-the-field contributions during the 2024 season. The league announced its performance-based pay totals for the past season on Wednesday. The bonuses are given out annually, meant primarily as a way to reward players with relatively low salaries for turning in high snap counts. The Performance-Based Pay program was first implemented in 2002 as part of the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players union. Payouts were calculated using a formula that accounts for a player's total snaps in a season, his base salary, and this year's $452 million pool of cash. The size of the bonuses given varied wildly in 2024. Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood got an extra $1.09 million, essentially doubling his salary. Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett earned the smallest bonus, just $342, for the 12 snaps he played in Tampa Bay. Beebe was one of a dozen Cowboys to have his bonus announced. Here's a look at who was rewarded- and by how much- for their playing time in 2024. OC Cooper Beebe: $705,000 Beebe was a rock in his first year as a pro and his first year playing center. The third-round draft pick played just over 90% of the Cowboys' offensive snaps last season and was in on nearly 12% of the special teams plays. Beebe's bonus almost doubled his base salary for the season. WR Jalen Tolbert: $593,000 Tolbert actually led all Cowboys wide receivers in snaps in 2024, with the third-year man lining up on over 76% of offensive plays on the year. He appeared in every game (but logged stats in just nine of those contests) to ensure a nice end-of-year boost to his $1.17 million base salary. DE Chauncey Golston: $580,000 Golston agreed to terms with the New York Giants for the 2025 season, but he played enough (over 71%) of the Cowboys' defensive snaps- plus more than a third of the special teams snaps- in 2024 to rack up a $580K bonus before leaving. His base salary for last year was $1.33 million. OL Brock Hoffman: $497,000 The undrafted Hoffman has become a key piece of the Dallas offensive line, stepping in when future Hall of Famer Zack Martin went down. With 44% of offensive snaps and over 26% of all special teams snaps played, Hoffman pulled down just under half a million in bonus money, to go with his base salary of $985,000. LB DeMarvion Overshown: $484,000 The homegrown linebacker missed the final four games of the season but still saw action on over 64% of the defense's snaps. That was enough to warrant a performance-based bump that represented over 48% of the base salary earned by the team's second-leading tackler. LB Marist Liufau: $449,000 Liufau benefitted the most from Overshown's knee injury; the rookie saw his snap count go up significantly in the final four games of the season. That extra action helped him haul in a bonus that was more than half of his $795,000 base salary. WR Jalen Brooks: $443,000 The second-year receiver out of South Carolina caught just 12 balls on the year, but he played 31% of the offensive snaps and almost 44% of the special teams snaps in 2024. Originally a seventh-round draft pick, his $443,000 bonus stacks up nicely with his $915,000 base salary. RB Rico Dowdle: $423,000 Dowdle's breakout season also proved to be financially lucrative for the 26-year-old. Being on the field for 54% of the Cowboys' offensive snaps brought him an extra $423K on top of a $1.06 million base salary. His performance earned him an even bigger payday for next year with Carolina. TE Jake Ferguson: $417,000 The third-year tight end had a down year when compared to his Pro Bowl season of 2023, but he was nevertheless the Cowboys' second-leading receiver. In the huddle for over half the offense's plays, Ferguson's bonus adds to his $985,000 base salary. DB Israel Mukuamu: $411,000 It was a good week for Mukuamu. The versatile defensive back and special teams mainstay added a tidy bonus on top of his $1.06 million base... and then earned a contract to remain in Dallas for another year that could see him on the field even more. QB Dak Prescott: $10,500 A $10K performance bonus hardly shows up against Prescott's $2.79 million base salary for 2024, and it's a not even a drop in the bucket compared to his $28.89 million signing bonus. But the face of the franchise saw just under 43% of the offense's snaps this season, and that entitles him to this chunk of change under the system's formula. DE DeMarcus Lawrence: $7,700 This bonus stings just a little, with Lawrence leaving Dallas after 11 great years... and then trashing the team in comments upon arriving in Seattle. The four-time Pro Bowler took home $10 million in base salary for playing on just 15% of the defense's snaps, and then he pocketed another $7,700 as he left for the Seahawks.
