Xavier will host Missouri State as part of 2025-26 non-conference basketball schedule
Xavier men's basketball's non-conference schedule for the 2025-26 campaign is nearing completion after a social media report from Alex Rosinski on June 24 that the Musketeers will host Missouri State at Cintas Center on Dec. 12. Xavier now has eight non-conference games scheduled with three more to be announced soon. Advertisement Missouri State, which competes in the Missouri Valley Conference, finished 9-23 last season under first-year head coach Cuonzo Martin, who is in his second stint with the school after coaching the Bears from 2008-2011. Five of Xavier's 18 regular-season games at Cintas Center have now been revealed. There will be three more non-conference home affairs for the Musketeers this fall, plus 10 games against Big East foes. Missouri State basketball, Cuonzo Martin land productive JUCO transfer
Missouri State basketball landed the commitment of another junior college transfer. Shamarrie Hugie, a 6-foot-6 wing from Cowley College (Kansas), announced his commitment to the Bears and Cuonzo Martin on Thursday morning on social media. ranks him as the No. 67 juco player in the 2025 class. Advertisement The Savannah, Georgia, native is coming off a season in which he averaged 14.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He was a 47.5% shooter from the field and 33% from beyond the arc. Missouri State extended an offer to him on Tuesday, and he accepted it quickly. Tennessee Tech and Stephen F. Austin are his two other listed offers. Hugie elevated his game from his freshman to sophomore year, becoming a nightly starter and improving his shooting totals from one year to the next. He was also an 83% free-throw shooter en route to a second-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference honors. Hugie is the fifth player to announce his transfer to Missouri State since the end of the 2024-25 season, after all but three players from last season's roster entered the transfer portal. He's the second JUCO player to commit to the Bears, joining Logan A. College transfer Cameron Boone. Brooks signs with MoState, to play for Zo
Hello everyone, I'm Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Missouri State basketball coach Cuonzo Martin is re-stocking his roster. In our Bear Nation update. Springfield native and Central Bulldog product Tyrique Brooks has officially signed with Missouri State. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 13 and a half points and four rebounds a game for Missouri Southern last year. Brooks started in 27 of the Lions 29 games. At Central, Brooks scored more than 15-hundred points averaging close to 18 points and six rebounds a game. As a senior, Brooks was the Class 6 co-player of the year and was all-conference, all-district and all-state. Cuonzo Martin says Brooks has a natural burst and instinct and can make plays with speed and athleticism. Last week, both Zaxton King and Michael Osei-Bonsu have said they'll be back for this upcoming season. For more sports watch Ozarks First news at nine and ten. And I'll see you then. Zo's Bears have 'weathered the storm'; ready for Arch Madness
SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears on the other hand hope to snap a five game losing streak in St. Louis this week at Arch Madness. It will be the 35th time that the Bears have played in the Missouri Valley post season tournament. And it'll be the last time, with Missouri State moving to Conference USA this summer. Sunday at Drake, the Bears almost beat the regular season champs. Missouri State owned a ten point lead, midway through the second half, but Drake rallied. A missed MoState free throw sent the game into overtime. The Bulldogs outscored the Bears 9-1 in the extra five minutes and won the game 68-60. It was the fifth time this season that Missouri State has played an overtime game. 'The resiliency of our guys, to their credit. You lose a lot of tough ones, you lose tough ones. You can easily fall apart. But they were persistent and stayed true. They insisted on getting better as a team. And then it just kind of happened. This is a really good league. But I certainly thought we'd be better. But not ashamed. Not disappointed. Because you win when he fight, and scratch and claw. Our guys stayed steady in the storm,' said coach Cuonzo Martin. Here's what the top half of Thursday's Arch Madness bracket looks like: At noon it's Southern Illinois against Indiana State, the winner gets the top seed Drake on Friday. Valpo finds the Wright stuff, beats Bears at buzzer
VALPARAISO, Ind.–The Bears wrapped up their current road trip Wednesday night at Valparaiso. And February has been kind to Cuonzo Martin's troops. Missouri State was looking for its third Valley win, and first conference road win of the season. Valpo beat the Bears by one point on New Years Day in Springfield. And good start for the Bears, Zaxton King with a three from the top of the arc, it's 5-1 MoState. Then the Bears with nice passing, one side of the court to the other, then inside to Wesley Oba for the lay up, 17-16 Missouri State. End of the first half, Jalen Hampton down the lane and the dunk, Missouri State owned a 30-26 halftime lead. Second half, Vincent Brady with the hoop, he led the Bears with 17. MoState led by as many as nine but Valpo rallies. All Wright, a Joplin Eagle and Link Academy product caps a 13-2 Beacon run, Valpo in front 59-57.
