Op Pedo: University student caught with 5,000 files of child pornography material
Even more disturbing, the 20-year-old suspect was found to have produced some of the pornographic material himself, involving two local children as victims. Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division's (D11) principal assistant director Assistant Commissioner Siti Kamsiah Hassan KUALA LUMPUR – The illegal activities of a university student came to light after he was arrested during a recent operation codenamed Op Pedo, which led to the discovery of 5,000 files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and adult content on his devices. Even more disturbing, the 20-year-old suspect was found to have produced some of the pornographic material himself, involving two local children as victims. The man was arrested on April 29 in Pasir Gudang, Johor by a team from the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (Micac) unit, the Sexual Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and the Johor Contingent Police, in collaboration with Google. Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division's (D11) principal assistant director Assistant Commissioner Siti Kamsiah Hassan said checks on the suspect's devices uncovered 5,000 files containing CSAM along with adult content, believed to have been downloaded from the internet. Some of the materials were also believed to have been produced by the suspect himself, involving two local children. She said further investigations revealed that the suspect had taken advantage of two girls, aged four and nine, who were also his cousins. "The suspect is believed to have recorded the acts using a mobile phone at several different locations — in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan. "Police have seized a mobile phone and a laptop for further action under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code," she told Sinar. Kamsiah said three separate investigation papers had been opened in the relevant states. "For the offence of possessing CSAM and adult content, the suspect was charged in Johor on May 22, pleaded guilty and paid a fine of RM5,000. "For the offence involving recordings with the children at the suspect's family home in Sungai Buloh between 2023 and 2025, the suspect was charged today (Thursday) in Klang," she added. She said investigations into another incident involving the suspect bathing one of the victims in a bathroom at an oil palm plantation in Maran, Pahang were still under review by the Deputy Public Prosecutor. "As for the incidents in Kelantan, which occurred last year and this year at the suspect's grandmother's house, investigations are also still being reviewed by the Attorney General's Chambers," she said.

Porn, neglect blamed for rise in teen rape cases in Johor
JOHOR BARU: Police have raised the alarm over a sharp rise in teenage rape cases in the state, linking the disturbing trend to online pornography, lack of parental supervision, and eroding moral values among youths. Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said 54 cases involving teenage victims were recorded between 2023 and 2024, with most linked to easy access to lewd content on social media and broken family structures. "These children are falling through the cracks. Many come from homes lacking love, attention or parental control," he said in his speech at the Johor police monthly assembly at the state contingent grounds today. He said many cases also stemmed from ignorance of sexual crime laws and the absence of early parental intervention. He said that parents must instil moral discipline and religious grounding from a young age. The police's Sexual Crimes Unit (D11) had been actively conducting school outreach programmes to raise awareness on the dangers and consequences of such offences. Separately, Kumar acknowledged that police officers are also facing mounting psychological pressure due to workload and personal stress. To address this, the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) has introduced a mental health intervention initiative, "Let's Get Together with Your Counsellor," and briefings to help supervisors detect early signs of distress among personnel. "Good leadership requires empathy. Officers who lead with the heart will preserve the dignity and performance of the team," he said. Despite internal challenges, Kumar said the Johor police contingent had delivered strong results. Between January and May, the Criminal Investigation Department recorded a 59.64 per cent crime resolution rate, while the Narcotics Department made 10,794 arrests, seized RM83.18 million worth of drugs, and froze RM7.49 million in assets. The department also crippled 21 drug syndicates, arresting 58 members and seizing RM81.07 million worth of narcotics. Meanwhile, the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) continues to battle online scams through cybercrime units, the CCID Scam Response Centre, and public education efforts via the portal. "My advice is, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Don't share your OTP. Don't click unknown links," he warned. Kumar also said five raids on subsidised palm oil thefts netted RM1.11 million worth of goods, while another operation saw the seizure of RM48,000 in untaxed cigarettes. On road safety, he said accidents remain on the rise due to reckless driving. "No amount of enforcement will work if the mindset does not change. Road safety starts with personal responsibility," he added. The assembly concluded with Kumar presenting certificates of excellence to officers and civilians who had contributed to public safety and internal reforms. "Let this be a reminder that honest, consistent effort never goes unnoticed.

The policy bans biologically male students from competing on athletic teams or sports designated as female, women or girls' sports, and biological female students from competing on any male, men's, or boys' sports. D11 Board of Education noted that the school district's interscholastic athletic teams or sports shall be designated based on biological sex: Male, men, or boys Female, women, or girls Coed, mixed, or open 'Allowing men and boys to compete against women and girls is demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports,' the policy reads. The policy would also ban biological males from entering a women's locker room and biological women from entering a men's locker room. Check out the full policy here: JBA-Preserving-Fairness-and-Safety-in-Sports-1Download The policy passed with only one vote in opposition. 'These policies they do not help anyone,' said Director Julie Ott during the Board's June 11 meeting. 'They are not respectful of every parent because there are parents who are not here tonight because the parents don't want to out their own children, they cannot stand up for their children…' Ott voted in opposition and noted that the policy is disrespectful towards parents and students. 'It is not coming from hate. It is not coming from fear, it is not coming from any of those negatives,' said Director Sandra Banks. 'I want to be fair and to be able to be fair, maybe we need to change the conversation to where it is.' Earlier this year, School District 49 in El Paso County passed a similar policy and is suing Colorado to enact it. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
