Four detained over drugs in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Four men were detained in several operations at Lahad Datu town for possessing and abusing drugs. District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said those men aged between 32 and 45 were detained following the Op Tapis conducted by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. Jimmy said the first arrest involving a 45-year-old man was made at about 10.40am near Jalan Pantai. He said the result of inspection conducted on the man found a translucent packet containing 0.14 grams of substances believed to be Syabu. 'The suspect was also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) 1952,' he said. According to Jimmy, about 3.45pm, two men aged 32 and 34 were detained while wandering in suspicious behaviors at Kampung Puyut. He said following inspection on both men found one of them possessing two translucent packets containing substances believed to be Syabu weighing 0.28 grams and two aluminium foils. Urine tests conducted on both of them found one of the suspects positive of taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. Investigation of this case was conducted under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952. 'About 4.30pm, the team arrested a 40-year-old man who was in suspicious behavior at the roadside of Jalan Kastam Baru. 'Result of inspection on the suspect found a cigarette box containing 27 translucent plastic packets filled with substances believed to be Syabu weighing 5.51 grams,' said Jimmy. He said urine tests conducted on the suspect found he was positive of taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. The suspect also had two previous records related to drug cases. Samarahan online seller jailed total 36 years for drug trafficking, possession
Dayang Nurhanisah is escorted after proceedings at the Kuching Court Complex. — Photo by Kentigern Minggu KUCHING (July 11): The High Court here today sentenced an online seller to a total of 36 years in prison for trafficking 3.6675kg of cannabis, as well as for possession of cannabis and ketamine four years ago. Judge Leonard David Shim handed down the sentence against Dayang Nurhanisah Awang Khalid, 39, after finding the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. For the first charge, she was convicted under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, for trafficking 3.6675kg of cannabis at a shophouse in the Samarahan Land District, Desa Ilmu, around 6pm on July 9, 2021. The Section carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction. For the second charge, she was found guilty of an offence under Section 6 of the DDA 1952 for possession of 18 grammes of cannabis at a house in Taman Desa Ilmu, Kota Samarahan, at 4.50pm on the same day. The Section stipulates a maximum fine of RM20,000, or up to five years in jail, or both, upon conviction. For the third charge, she was convicted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, for possession of 0.57 grammes of ketamine at the same location and time. The Section provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction. Shim ordered for the prison sentences to run concurrently from the date of her arrest on July 9, 2021. A total of 10 prosecution witnesses were called to testify in the case, while two witnesses, Dayang Nurhanisah and her daughter, were called for the defence. Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fillany Siji prosecuted the case, while Dayang Nurhanisah was represented by counsel Roland Thomas.

Repeat offender in Kuching gets five years' jail, one stroke for drug abuse

KUCHING (June 16): The Sessions' Court here today sentenced a 41-year-old repeat drug offender to five years in jail and one stroke of the cane for amphetamine and methamphetamine abuse. Judge Musli Ab Hamid meted out the sentence against Jonathan Fu Won Yen after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act. Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or up to two years in prison, or both, while Section 39C (1)(b) of the same Act provides for up to seven years imprisonment and not more than three strokes of the cane upon conviction. Musli also ordered Fu to undergo supervision for two years following the completion of his sentence. The offence was committed at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department office on March 19, 2024. Fu has two previous convictions for the same offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, both on Oct 19, 2022. Habitual Kuching druggie gets five years behind bars, two lashes

KUCHING (June 13): A 29-year-old habitual drug user was today sentenced by the Sessions Court here to five years in jail and two strokes of the rotan for amphetamine and methamphetamine abuse last year. Judge Musli Ab Hamid convicted Ahmad Faizzirul Ahmad Suhardian Syah on his own guilty plea to an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, which is punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act. Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or up to two years in prison, or both, while Section 39C (1)(b) of the same Act provides for up to seven years' jail and not more than three strokes of the cane upon conviction. In passing the sentence, Musli also ordered Ahmad Faizzirul to undergo supervision for two years after serving his custodial sentence. He committed the offence at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department on Jan 18, 2024, at around 6pm. Ahmad Faizzirul has two previous convictions on Jan 4 and Jan 30, 2023 for the same offence framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952. Druggie in Kuching gets five years' jail, one stroke

Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi delivered the sentence against Fedrick Steward Mancha, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (DDA), punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act. Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, while Section 39C(1)(b) prescribes a mandatory custodial sentence of not less than five years and not more than seven years, along with a maximum of three strokes of the cane upon conviction. In passing the sentence, Saiful also ordered Fedrick to undergo supervision for two years after serving his custodial sentence. Fedrick committed the offence at the Padawan District Narcotic Crime Investigation Division at approximately 1.45pm on Dec 30, 2024. He has two prior convictions for similar offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, dated Jan 26, 2022 and April 19, 2022. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian prosecuted, while Fedrick was unrepresented by legal counsel.
