20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter leads 2025 Rocket Classic after three rounds
The Rocket Classic will have a new champion this year. Two-time winner Cam Davis failed to make the weekend, and the play on Saturday, June 28, left a new name atop the leader board. In fact, there were a lot of new names up there after the third round at Detroit Golf Club. But the top golfer is a familiar name, at least this week, as 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter was one of three golfers to card a 7-under 65 in the third round to take a two-stroke lead. Potgieter, who held the DGC course record for a little under 24-hours after his first-round 62, is in position to grab his first PGA Tour victory. Then again, the field is tight at the top — 19 other golfers are within four strokes of second place — which could make for a wild Sunday finish. EAGLES SOARING: Round 3: Davis Thompson pulls off amazing feat in just 8 holes Aldrich Potgieter goes low again Potgieter may have been the surprise of the tournament with his late surge on Thursday, but he's proving himself a leader now. The South African surged on the front nine Saturday, delivering six birdies in the first eight holes. Potgieter's surge hasn't been just beginner's luck, either. Despite a down second round in which he only shot a 2-under 70, he rebounded Saturday with a series of excellent hits. His third shot on No. 1, from the greenside bunker, dropped in from 35 feet out, and he only improved from there. Potgieter hit five straight birdies on Nos. 4-8, then added his seventh birdie of the round on No. 13. While Potgieter's driving has always been his strong suit, his putting was strong Saturday, with 2.569 strokes gained putting. 'I was rolling a lot of good putts out there,' Potgieter said. 'A lot of them dropped, putts that I didn't think were going to drop. … That front nine really helped me to get through. A lot of par saves on this back nine. I felt like I had to stay in it, dig deep to get through that. Didn't birdie the par-5s, which is unfortunate, but should be a good day tomorrow.' Potgieter's only previous professional win came on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024. A final round like Saturday's might change that. LOOKING AHEAD: Rocket Classic's future unclear past 2026, but 'signature' status on PGA Tour isn't a goal The field is close behind Potgieter has plenty of competition nipping at his heels, with five players tied for second at 17-under, three tied for seventh at 16-under and three tied for 10th at 15-under. 'It's quite different as an ammie playing in a big event,' Potgieter said. 'The leaderboard's so stacked. When you're looking at amateur golf, a lot of guys are up there but there might be two or three guys within two or three shots. Here there's six or seven. The guys are just really good out here. So it's going to play different tomorrow with that wind so we'll have to go and do the best we can and hit the golf shot in front of us.' Jake Knapp, who took over Potgieter's course record on Friday with an 11-under 61, grabbed a spot in the second-place logjam with a 6-under 66 Saturday, dropping in seven birdies (and a bogey on 11) to stay close. Knapp on No. 15 came inches away from sinking a 42-foot putt for a deuce. He settled for par on the tap-in. There were a few other near-misses; the most notable came on the par-4 No. 12, where his second shot, a wedge from 126 yards, rolled to about 4 inches from the stick. He tapped in for the birdie. Turning a few of those birdies into eagles on a mostly friendly course could shoot Knapp into the lead. Meanwhile, Max Greyserman returned to his hot ways on Saturday. He opened with a a 9-under 63 Thursday before shooting just par on Friday. During his third round, Greyserman was on point, hitting six birdies and an eagle — on No. 7 after burying an 11-foot putt — for a 66 to get to 17-under. Greyserman turned pro in 2017 but has yet to win on Tour. He has, however, come in second five times. He's hoping to avoid that outcome on Sunday. 'I don't think I need to do too much differently,' Greyserman said. 'Obviously I had three seconds last year. I haven't played well this year, but doing a lot of things well, just kind of haven't been at the top of the board. You can finish second different ways, right? You could be ahead, lose the lead. You could finish second in a distant and have no chance. I've done all those seconds and I had that experience. I have that experience going into tomorrow, so rely on that, knowing that I'm playing well, got a good team around me, so I'm excited for tomorrow.' CARLOS MONARREZ: Enjoy Rocket Classic drama but make sure you appreciate Collin Morikawa's authenticity Collin Morikawa heating up Morikawa, who started the Rocket with some media-relations drama and a first-round 69, followed his Round 2 64 with a 4-under 68, putting him at 15-under, well within striking range. Still, the World No. 5 (entering the tournament) squandered several opportunities to take the lead and heads into the final round tied for tenth. Putting on the back nine was a particular issue for Morikawa. One particularly notable moment came on No. 12. A solid drive and wedge shot put Morikawa on the green with the opportunity to take the lead at 16-under. It was a downhill shot about 14 feet from the hole, but makeable. Instead, Morikawa missed it wide left by a good margin, leaving himself a 2-foot putt for par and prompting one commentator to call it the 'worst putt he's hit today.' Just after Morikawa's miss, Potgieter took the lead at 16-under; Morikawa had a chance to keep pace with him on 13, following a wedge shot that put him about 5½ feet from the hole. But his putt again slid wide left and he settled for a par. On 14, his missed a birdie putt from 15 feet out. He then bogeyed No. 15 despite getting on the green in one shot, 35 feet out; he triple-putted, leaving the first shot about 4 feet off and then missing wide to set up a 3-footer for the bogey. His putting improved after that, but the damage was done, as Morikawa ended the day four shots back.

Future of local bus routes in Dumfries and Galloway revealed
Most local bus services in Dumfries and Galloway will continue when Stagecoach pulls out of the region, according to the local authority. Dumfries and Galloway Council said 45 contracts lasting seven years have been issued for routes it subsidises, following a successful a tender process. But some services will be axed due to "extremely low" passenger numbers and revisions made to other routes to "improve efficiency". Twelve other local routes, which do not receive a council subsidy, are still to find operator. Stagecoach announced last week it would withdraw almost all its services in the region because they were "no longer commericially viable". Councils have a duty to provide public transport services to meet needs that cannot be provided on a commercial basis. A spokesperson for the council said the 45 routes will be operated byTelford's Coaches Limited; Brownriggs (Thornhill) LLP; J McCulloch & Son; McCalls Coaches Ltd; and Houston's Mini Coaches. DGC Buses - the council's in-house bus service provider - will operate services that did not receive any "compliant bids" through the tender process. However it has not revealed which routes the operators will take on, which routes have been scrapped and which routes have changed. BBC Scotland News has approached Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) for clarification. Colin Smyth, the Scottish Labour MSP for the South of Scotland, said the council's statement raised more questions than it answered. "Thousands of passengers still have no idea who, if anyone, will be running their bus come August - and over 130 local workers are being kept in the dark about their futures," he added. The MSP called for the council to explore the creation of a municipal bus company, similar to Lothian Buses, to secure long-term resilience. The current contracts with Stagecoch will end on August 6 - when the operator will drop to running two services in the region - the X74 Dumfries to Glasgow route and the 79 service from Dumfries to said most of the locally subsidised bus services operated under contract with regional transport partnership SWestrans will continue with the same frequency and timetable. The 12 commercial routes that are still to find operators are: 74 Dumfries to Moffat81 Dumfries to Lockerbie (some services only)236 Dumfries to Thornhill (Sunday only)246 Dumfries to Cumnock501 Dumfries to Castle Douglas (some services only)D1 Locharbriggs to Dumfries Town CentreD10 Dumfries Burns Statue to Dumfries Great King StD10B Lochside to Dumfries via Lincluden/Newbridge (evening and Sunday services only)D12 Lincluden to Dumfries Town CentreD2 Heathhall to Dumfries Town CentreD3 Georgetown to Dumfries Town CentreD4 Lochvale to Dumfries Town Centre"Although SWestrans is responsible for the delivery of the local subsidised bus network, neither it nor Dumfries and Galloway Council is responsible for the operation or allocation of commercial routes," the council majority of these services were run by Stagecoach. Council leader Stephen Thomson said: "We've been able to award long-term contracts that will ensure services can continue and with greater efficiency and reliability, providing communities in Dumfries and Galloway with a well-connected local bus network."The leader added that the new contract agreements will ensure operators invest in their fleets of vehicles "to offer the highest standard possible of service to passengers".Work is underway to promote the updated passenger information across the region in preparation for the launch of the new network in early timetable information will be available on the Dumfries and Galloway Council website from mid July or by contacting Traveline Scotland on 0141 465 1878. School transport Dumfries and Galloway Council said it has also approved recommendations to award contracts to run home-to-school transport services for the authority has a statutory responsibility to provide the service, but current contracts are due to expire at the end of this academic council said details would be confirmed at the end of that process, in early July. "The council is committed to ensuring all school transport routes are operational for the start of the school year in August," it added.

Woman, lover get life term for hubby's murder in 2021
Agra: A court here sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for strangling her husband with a dupatta and portraying it as a suicide. District govt counsel (DGC) Basant Gupta said Rakesh Kumar, 28, was found dead in his house at Pabawali village under Dauki police station in Agra district on Jan 24, 2021. "Rakesh, a fast food vendor, had been married to Poonam (26) for nearly three years. The couple also has two toddlers. Before their marriage, Poonam was in a relationship with one Soni, 26, who continued to visit her frequently. When Rakesh became aware of their relationship and barred Soni, who was unemployed, from coming to his house," Gupta said. On Jan 24, 2021, Poonam allowed Soni into the house around 10 pm. When Rakesh returned home from work at 10.30 pm and confronted them, a heated argument broke out. "Enraged, Poonam and Soni strangled Rakesh with a dupatta," Gupta said. Hearing a commotion, Rakesh's father, Ram Prakash, rushed in for help and saw Soni running away. When questioned by police, Poonam initially claimed that Rakesh had died by suicide. Following Ram Prakash's complaint, police registered a case against Poonam and Soni under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention). Both the accused were arrested on Jan 26, 2021, after the autopsy confirmed that Rakesh died of "asphyxia due to strangulation". Inspector Ashok Kumar, who probed the case, recovered the dupatta used in the crime. Based on technical evidence and witnesses' statements, a chargesheet was filed on Feb 28, 2021. During the trial, both the accused pleaded for leniency, citing their poor financial background and claiming this was their "first offence", arguing that they were sole breadwinners for their families. The court, however, rejected their pleas. On Thursday, sessions judge Sanjay Kumar Malik sentenced both Poonam, a homemaker, and Soni to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each on the convicts. In case of default, they would face an additional six months in jail. The court also directed that 50% of the fine amount be paid to the victim's father, Ram Prakash.

Stagecoach to axe bus services across Dumfries and Galloway
Stagecoach has announced it will end almost all of its bus services in Dumfries and Galloway because they are "no longer commercially viable".The bus firm said that during the tender process to run new services from August it had found a liability clause that was "far in excess of the value of the contracts".It has told Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) that it would drop all but two of its services in the council has not confirmed if another operator will take over the routes. It said negotiations over the tender process were "ongoing and confidential". Stagecoach said current contracts with the council and transport partnership SWestrans would expire on 6 August."We're unfortunately unable to agree to a contract on these disproportionate terms," it said."We've been working with the council and SWestrans to find a solution to the procurement ask, but unfortunately the liability levels required by the council have made this impossible."As a result, our tender submissions have been disqualified as non-compliant." Stagecoach said it had given 70-day notice in May to deregister its services apart from the X74 Dumfries to Glasgow also said its 79 service from Dumfries to Carlisle would continue to firm said it was committed to ensuring communities in the region could "remain connected" and it was working closely with affected staff at its Dumfries and Stranraer depots. 'Protect public interest' DGC said SWestrans was responsible for delivery of the local bus network, while the home-to-school transport network was the council's said it took its statutory duties "very seriously" and was prioritising school transport routes.A spokesperson added: "As part of the tender process, the council and SWestrans need to ensure that we have bus operators that meet minimum requirements on a range of industry-standard terms and conditions."This is in order to protect the public interest."DGC and SWestrans continue to work through a tender process that has supporting and connecting the communities of Dumfries and Galloway firmly at its heart."
