Man Utd star's damning response to Rasmus Hojlund X-rated dig in Leeds friendly
Manchester United drew a familiar blank in attack against Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday - and there were potentially worrying signs for Ruben Amorim as he attempts to turn things around Rasmus Hojlund showed his disgust after Diogo Dalot failed to find him with a pass in Manchester United 's friendly against Leeds on Saturday. United drew 0-0 with the newly-promoted Premier League side in Stockholm in a drab start to their pre-season campaign. Ruben Amorim gave an unofficial debut to £62.5million signing Matheus Cunha, who was one of the only positive takeaways from the match. Otherwise it followed a familiar theme for the club, who finished a lowly 15th last season and are expected to improve in 2025/26. Hojlund managed 10 goals in 52 appearances for United last season, only four of which came in the league, and he often cut a frustrated figure up front. That continued on Saturday in the Swedish capital – and the Danish striker wasn't shy in letting his team-mates know. Hojlund was looking for Dalot to pass the ball in behind the Leeds defence, but it came later than he wanted it, meaning he was likely offside. "F*** sake," he yelled in Dalot's direction. The Portuguese full-back wasn't interested in hearing his moans and simply ignored him and jogged on. The lack of a link-up between the two United players was evident later in the game too. Dalot did find Hojlund with a cross, only for his header to be deflected, while the young striker was shouting at Dalot again later on after he opted to pass to Patrick Dorgu instead of him. This is a make or break pre-season for Amorim, but he clearly isn't concerned about the atmosphere around the squad, who are missing Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho, who have been banished. "The environment is really good, of course sometimes we are going to struggle, but what I felt in the first moment is that if we are going to struggle, we will struggle together," Amorim told MUTV post-match. "That is the beginning of everything, then we have to put the quality. This club is not just about the effort, it's about the quality, we have to win games." He added: "We need to create that bond between everybody [on the United States tour] - not just between the players but the staff. All the changes are stopping. We need to leave that as a group. We have a lot to improve, the speed of the game, all of the details. We need to improve." Amorim was clear on what the main problem was. "We have a lack of pace,' he said. 'Especially in the middle of the park, you can feel it's hard to bring the ball. We created chances. We have a lot to do but it was a first test against a Premier League team with two different teams, a good test. "Matheus Cunha showed what we need, a player in between the lines who is really aggressive. We watched that during last season for a different team. We expect the same thing. "You can see the connection with him and Bruno Fernandes is still not there. But it will be a good connection, because you can put a player like Kobbie Mainoo or Mason Mount there. We need to increase our quality in the final third." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Man Utd announce four more squad number changes as transfer becomes official
Manchester United have so far only signed two new faces this summer but there has been plenty of change behind the scenes with a host of stars selecting new squad numbers Manchester United have confirmed that four stars have decided to change squad numbers following a major reshuffle. The Red Devils had already announced that Marcus Rashford had given up the club's iconic number 10 shirt, with summer signing Matheus Cunha claiming the digit. And it has now been announced that Diogo Dalot has chosen to change his shirt number ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. The Portuguese defender will now don the number two shirt as a Red Devil. He has claimed the digit from Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelof, who vacated the shirt at the end of last season with his contract expiring. Dalot, 26, has donned 20 since his arrival from Porto in 2018. Previous owners of the number two shirt include Brazilian right-back Rafael and iconic former star Gary Neville. Dalot's change is not the only alteration behind the scenes. The Red Devils have also confirmed that youngster Shea Lacey has claimed 61, Bendito Mantato will now wear 70, while Reece Munro has switched to 65. United have also completed a deal for young defender Sonny Aljofree to join League Two side Notts County on loan. He penned a new deal with the club before departing. Another man who signed on the dotted line this summer is Cunha, who has since chosen the number 10 shirt. "Yeah, wow. It's something that you always dream about [wearing the No. 10]," Cunha said about his new number. "I can mention many players that use this shirt. It's so easy for me. "Of course, I think the one that I always think about when I see this number in this shirt for me was Wayne Rooney. He was someone that I grew up to watch him play and I have [watched] many games now. "Then I swapped shirts with Marcus [Rashford, after a game] also, I have his shirt in my home. But, of course, we know many players used this shirt -- [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic." He added: "It's the dream not only to use the shirt, but with all the history they have around the number, it's something beautiful that I have the privilege to do it. "With every single number, it will be a pleasure to use the shirt. But, yeah, with this one it's something different. Then, of course, the responsibility is coming, and I hope I can do everything like goals, assists and help the team." Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot given extra Man Utd leave after Diogo Jota death
Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were team-mates with Diogo Jota for the Portuguese national team and Manchester United will allow them extra time to grieve after his tragic death Manchester United have granted stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot additional time off following the tragic death of Portugal team-mate Diogo Jota. Fernandes and Dalot both attended the Liverpool forward's funeral in their homeland on Saturday after Jota, 28, died alongside his brother in a horrific car crash last week. All three players were part of the Portugal squad who won the Nations League in July, beating Spain on penalties in the final. The United duo were scheduled to return to Manchester this week as the Red Devils begin pre-season training. But Fernandes and Dalot will be allowed to return later than the rest of United's first-team quad. The Sun report that the pair have both been granted a week's compassionate leave. A source adds that both players are 'heartbroken' and explains that United's squad have 'rallied around them'. Red Devils captain Fernandes and right-back Dalot each shared tributes on social media following Jota's death. "Friend, colleague and companion in a thousand battles," Fernandes posted. "It is difficult to understand how it is possible for someone to leave so soon. "May you and your brother find the peace you need to look after those you lost so soon and suddenly. My condolences to your entire family." Dalot wrote: "Devastating... speechless... much strength to the family." A number of other United players past and present shared tributes. Portugal captain and former Red Devils striker Cristiano Ronaldo also posted: "It doesn't make sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married. "To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you." Harry Maguire said: "So sad. RIP. Heartbreaking." Mason Mount commented: "Absolutely devastating news. Rest in peace Diogo and Andre. Deepest condolences and thoughts are with the family." Amad also said: "My sincere condolences to Jota's Family and his Wife. We are all devastated by this news. May their souls rest in peace." Joshua Zirkzee added: "Unbelievable news... rest in perfect paradise, prayers to your loved ones." United begin their pre-season campaign against Leeds in Sweden on Saturday, July 19. Ruben Amorim's team then play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton on tour in the United States. Their fifth and final match is at home to Fiorentina on Saturday, August 9.
