Vietnamese national arrested over fatal stabbing in Saga
SAGA (TR) – Saga Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old Vietnamese man over the alleged fatal stabbing and robbery of a woman at her residence in Imari City over the weekend, reports NHK (July 28). At around 4:20 p.m. on July 26, Dam Duy Khang, a technical intern, allegedly broke into the house in Nagahama, Higashiyamashirocho. After stealing cash, he stabbed Japanese language instructor Maiko Mukumoto, 40, in the abdomen and other areas of her body with a knife. He also slashed Mukuto's mother, aged in her 70s. Mukuto was later confirmed dead due to loss of blood. Her mother suffered injuries to her neck and other parts of her body. Upon his arrest on suspicion of robbery-murder the next day, Dam declined to comment. 'I don't want to say anything,' the suspect said. He was sent to prosecutors on July 28. Before the incident, the suspect pressed the intercom for the residence. When the mother opened the front door, he forced his way into the house, pointed a knife at her and demanded cash. 'Money,' he said. 'Show me your wallet.' After Mukumoto handed over a 10,000-yen bill, he continued to threaten her. He later stole a 1,000 yen bill as well. According to police, an image of a person believed to be Dam was left on screen of the intercom of the house. The suspect was living in a dormitory about 50 meters from the crime scene with several other technical intern trainees. Interviews with relevant parties have revealed that bloodstained work gloves were found on a street near the scene approximately one and a half hours after the incident. Police are seeking the motive for the attack.

Cracks in Kabini dam a cause for concern
More than seven dams in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, mainly Kabini, Taraka, Nugu, Suvarnavathi, Chikkahole, Gundal and Uduthorehal dam, which are more than 40 years old, need immediate attention for better maintenance and structural safety. Experts rule out an immediate threat to the structure of Kabini dam. However, neglect or delay in filling up the cavity and cracks would weaken the reservoir structure, they caution. Irrigation department officials noticed leakage and deployed robots and underwater cameras to record the status of the structure, to report to the expert committee and Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited authorities, with details that the cracks and cavities are more than 50-cm deep. The engineers could not take up work immediately because of high turbidity in the water and poor visibility to fill up the cracks. The Dam Safety review team and Dam Safety panel, comprising former chairmen of the Central Water Commission, inspected the dams to study their status. Due to incessant rain, Chikkahole dam brimmed over but there was no relief for farmers as poor maintenance of sluice gates resulted in wastage of water. The inability to operate or fully close the sluice gate has wasted about 6 cusecs of water every day. The broken sluice gate of Taraka dam was replaced with a 25-tonne gate 19 years ago. If the government wants to utilise the allocated 284tmcft of water, it should replace all crest gates and strengthen the structure based on the expert committee report. The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited has approved Rs 32.35 crore for filling up cavities and cracks in the Kabini dam. It has presented a proposal of Rs 88 crore to the Centre to strengthen the dam structures.

SB19 Almost Hits No. 1 With New Project, Which Earns A Great Start
It's a big day for SB19, one that may mark the start of an exciting chapter for the musical act. The Filipino boy band dropped its new EP Simula at Wakas on Friday (April 25), and within hours, it was clear that this latest release is headed for real, quantifiable success in the United States. Based on some promising initial placements, the project is off to one of the group's best starts yet. SB19 Scores One of the Top Debuts on iTunes Fridays are always crowded on iTunes. The beginning of a new tracking frame typically brings with it a flood of exciting releases, as artists rush to drop singles and full-lengths to maximize their seven-day window for streams and sales. Even with the typical weekly chaos, SB19 manages to stand out. Simula at Wakas rises to No. 2 on the iTunes Top Albums chart in the U.S., as of the time of publishing. That positioning makes it the third-bestselling title in the country on that one platform on Friday. While iTunes doesn't account for all purchases in the U.S., it still serves as a helpful early indicator of which projects are resonating most with fans in real time, as well as which titles may perform well on the Billboard charts in a few days. SB19 Trails Only Ghost and Final Fantasy XVI The only new release managing to outperform SB19 on iTunes this frame is Skeletá by Ghost. The Swedish metal group's latest set bolts to No. 1, easily becoming the to-performing new release this week, at least initially. For some time, SB19 was also beaten by the Final Fantasy XIV soundtrack. That album sat in between Ghost and the Filipino musical troupe for a while, after slipping from No. 1. That's not the case as of the time of writing, as it declines to third place, while the boy band advances. Elsewhere on the ranking, other notable arrivals include new efforts from Machine Head, Coco Jones, Shaboozey, and the 2024 Broadway cast recording of Gypsy. SB19's First Single From the EP Is Already a Chart-Topper Before Simula at Wakas arrived in full, SB19 pushed one tune from the project to one of Billboard's rosters. The EP's first single, 'Dam,' rose to No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart earlier this year. It became the band's first champion on that tally, which is often dominated by international stars. The cut marked SB19's second top 10 on that list to date. The group's earlier single 'Gento' previously peaked at No. 8 two years ago. The success of both 'Dam' and the early warm welcome enjoyed by Simula at Wakas may be a sign that a new foreign boy band is about to become the hottest thing in America, changing the look and sound of what's huge in the music industry.
