Beyoncé's unreleased music stolen from car during Cowboy Carter tour

ATLANTA — Unreleased music by Beyoncé was among several items stolen from a vehicle in Atlanta just days before the singer's four-night Cowboy Carter tour stop in the city, authorities have confirmed. Hard drives containing the unreleased songs, show plans, and past and future set lists for her tour were among the items stolen from a rental car used by the singer's choreographer and one of her dancers, according to a police report. The theft occurred on 8 July, two days before Beyoncé's first Atlanta performance. It will come as a blow to the star, who often goes to extreme lengths to prevent leaks. Atlanta police say an arrest warrant has been issued, but the suspect's name has not been made public. Choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue told police they had parked the rented black Jeep Wagoneer and gone inside a nearby food hall. When they returned, the vehicle's rear window had been smashed and two suitcases were missing, a police incident report states. They told police they were "carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé" in the vehicle that was also stolen. That included "five jump drives containing watermarked music, unreleased music, footage plans for shows past and future, and set list", the report states. Other items reported stolen included a laptop, designer clothes and Apple AirPods. Authorities used tracking information on the laptop and headphones to track where the items may have gone, the police report notes. Authorities also dusted the vehicle for any fingerprints and discovered "two very light prints". It is unclear whether the stolen items have been recovered. The BBC has contacted a representative for Beyoncé for comment. The singer has worked hard to avoid leaks in the second phase of her solo career, after early albums like Dangerously In Love and 4 found their way online illegally before their release dates. She pioneered the "surprise drop" with her self-titled fifth album - which appeared unannounced on 13 December 2013, complete with artistic videos for each of its 14 songs. Recorded under the code name Lily, the album was released exclusively through Apple's iTunes store, to minimize the number of people with advance knowledge. An extra from one of the video shoots even said that producers did not play any of the Beyoncé tracks on set to avoid leaks. "It was actually kind of fun," they told StyleCaster. "The entire time I'm thinking, 'What is this going to be?'" The gambit paid off. Beyoncé became the fastest-selling album in the history of the iTunes store, selling almost 830,000 copies in 72 hours. The star has employed similar tactics on every subsequent album. Songwriters who work with Beyoncé often do not know whether their contributions will be used until a record appears in shops. Post Malone, who appeared on the 2024 song Levii's Jeans, told the New York Times Beyoncé sent a representative to his house in Utah with a copy of the song, which remained under lock and key while they collaborated on the lyrics over text. "It was terrifying," he told the New York Times. Fans have taken note of the star's aversion to leaks - and actively tried to stop the spread of her 2022 album Renaissance, when it appeared online two days early. Beyoncé responded with a handwritten note on her website, saying she had "never seen anything like it". "So, the album leaked, and you all actually waited until the proper release time so you all can enjoy it together," she wrote. "I appreciate you for calling out anyone that was trying to sneak into the club early. It means the world to me." Beyoncé is currently in Atlanta as part of her Cowboy Carter stadium tour. She has been performing in the city since 10 July and her last show was set for Monday night. Her husband, the rapper Jay Z, made a surprise appearance on the third night of her stop in the city. Choreographer Grant has worked with other major musicians including Shakira. Dancer Blue appeared alongside Beyoncé in a 2024 Super Bowl advert, during which she released two singles from her Cowboy Carter album, released later that year. The record, which celebrates and contextualises the black roots of country music, went on to win the Grammy Award for album of the year. — BBC

From the Archives: Beyoncé at the Peak of Her Powers

'When she is working onstage, she has more power than any woman I've ever seen,' says Paltrow. 'She would never say it and has never said it, but I feel she knows with every fiber of her being that she is the best in the world at her job.' There's still an obsessiveness about detail in Beyoncé's artistic life. In her studio are elaborate 'vision boards' to stimulate her creative process—photographs, writings, reminders of past achievements. There's the cover of her 2003 album Dangerously in Love. There are photos of her Grammy performances with Prince and Tina Turner. Song concepts. Potential titles. 'There's so much stuff up there,' she says. 'It kind of feels right now like A Beautiful Mind.' Beyoncé says her new music 'is a lot more sensual . . . empowering.' It celebrates being a wife and a mother, reflecting the obvious changes in her life. 'Right now, after giving birth, I really understand the power of my body,' she says. 'I just feel my body means something completely different. I feel a lot more confident about it. Even being heavier, thinner, whatever. I feel a lot more like a woman. More feminine, more sensual. And no shame.' She jokes that next time she might make a country album. Maybe a jazz album. She talks about wanting more children. 'When I was younger, there were moments where I said, 'I'm not going to have children,' ' Beyoncé says. 'And then moments when I wanted four. And now I definitely want another, but I don't know when.' What will happen will happen, she says. But there's a sense that Beyoncé won't let her life get relentless, that she will pull back now and again, not immerse herself in the way she once immersed herself. 'At some point it's very important to me that my daughter is able to experience life and run through the sprinklers and have slumber parties and trust and live and do all the things that any child should be able to do,' she says. Girl Scouts? Lemonade stands? School visits? Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Carter are here for their parent-teacher conference. . . . 'Absolutely,' she says. 'School visits and lemonade stands and all that stuff. It's very important for me.' Beyoncé refers to the sacrifices she made when she was young, the thousands upon thousands of hours of spent practicing and performing and accruing success and goodwill. She believes she has earned some latitude, the ability to occasionally step away and let go. 'I don't feel like I have to please anyone,' she says. 'I feel free. I feel like I'm an adult. I'm grown. I can do what I want. I can say what I want. I can retire if I want. That's why I've worked hard.' She's not retiring anytime soon, but you get the point. In the life of Beyoncé Knowles, there is a new freedom. There is happiness. And not far from where we sit, beyond this door that opens up onto this wildly desirable and famous life, there is a baby stroller. There is Blue, and a big, boundless future ahead.

Beyoncé 'giving away free tickets' to Cowboy Carter tour after defying critics

Beyoncé is reportedly giving away tickets to her star-studded gigs in London as critics claim the singer's Cowboy Carter tour is 'flawless' and 'show-stopping' Cowboy Carter star, Beyoncé, is giving away free tickets for her tour to those who are struggling financially, according to reports. The Destiny's Child star has silenced the critics claiming she had 'hundreds of unsold seats' in the the capital as she wowed crowds with her shows last week, which fans have branded 'flawless' and 'show-stopping'. Tickets for the shows, which take place in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, are not cheap, with many of the BeyHive shelling out more than £100 to catch a glimpse of the Dangerously In Love star. However, Beyoncé, 43 is now reportedly giving away free tickets to several low-income families in the capital, who have been offered the chance to see the show by food banks. ‌ ‌ The Sun reports that the community services, which provide free food and essential items to individuals and families in need, could be offering families a surprise chance to see the star in action after the ticket cost outpriced many from being able to attend the glittering gigs. Beyoncés fans were shocked at the cost when tickets went on sale in February. The tour had the highest top-priced ticket of any artist performing in the UK this year, at £950. Promoters then slashed prices in the build-up, leaving thousands angry over the fortune they spent. In the fan presale, certain tickets were priced at £620, but have since been available for £141.60. However, according to critics, the shows are well worth seeing as they hailed the singer's performance as 'exceptional'. Beyoncé took London by storm with the launch of her Cowboy Carter tour last week. The seasoned star kicked off the series of six electrifying performances at the north of the city - and the reviews are in. Following her first show on Thursday (June 5), critics have showered the superstar with praise, with The Mirror awarding the Single Ladies singer a dazzling five stars, hailing her as being in 'top form.' Our reviewer wrote: 'From flawless vocals and choreography and a seamless blend of bold stunts and spectacular visuals. In one section, the Texas native climbs on top of a gold-plated bucking mechanical bull as she gyrates and gets thrown from side to side without missing a note." ‌ Meanwhile, Wales Online lauded the show for its 'intense dance routines, emotional moments, nine quick changes and a flying car,' adding: 'Beyonce's Cowboy Carter is likely the most complete performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season." However, not all feedback was glowing as some suggested Beyoncé leaned too heavily on her stage production. One ticketholder said: "Ultimately it's left to a few show-stopping stadium gimmicks to make the evening: Bey flying over the crowd on a neon horseshoe on a thumping Jolene, or in a classic American car for 16 Carriages." ‌ Beyoncé is performing in London for four more shows, including tonight, 12, 14, and 16 June.
