I Thought I Would Never Wear A Waistcoat – Then I Found This Linen Style

Once just a participant in three-piece suits, the waistcoat has, in recent years, managed to shrug off its stuffy past. Now, it's the piece every stylish cool girl has on rotation. For summer 2025, the best waistcoats have become a bona fide staple, the kind you throw on instead of an airy shirt for a relaxed look that's slightly more elevated. While this means there's no shortage of options to shop, one specific style reigns supreme when it comes to surviving the heat in style: linen waistcoats. In black, grey, beige or white, linen waistcoats make for effortless tailoring that's ridiculously breathable and comfortable, and one style in particular has taken over my summer mood board – a sleek, tailored number from Aligne. Aligne's Lupin Linen Tie Waistcoat has quickly become a fashion insider favourite, thanks to its airy linen and cotton-blend construction that blends the breezy ease of summer dressing with the polished structure of classic tailoring. Ditching traditional buttons for a tie-front detail, it's proof that tailored pieces don't have to be rigid, which is especially welcome when soaring temperatures call for flowing, unrestrictive clothing. 1. Lupin Linen Tie Waistcoat - White This crisp white linen waistcoat is a fail-safe addition to any summer wardrobe thanks to its cool material and even cooler tie detailing. Of course, it's no surprise that another tailored staple from Aligne is dominating the summer dressing discourse. The brand's Leo Linen Waistcoat has long been a fan favourite, with its playful split-cut hemline and longline tailoring creating a chic, slightly oversized silhouette. Then there's the Daphne Blazer, which sits somewhere between outerwear and waistcoat thanks to its button-down detailing, and is adored by the fashion pack, especially in its buttery yellow and sleek black iterations. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say the brand has a knack for offering contemporary style classics that slot seamlessly into everyday wardrobes. As for how to style the linen waistcoat? It couldn't be easier. For off-duty occasions, low-rise jeans, matching linen shorts and tailored wide-leg trousers should do the trick; finish with ballet flats or retro trainers such as the Onitsuka Tigers (we certainly have a soft spot for the classic yellow iteration). When it's time to add a touch of sophistication for date nights and evenings out with friends, swap the flats for elevated favourites like kitten mules or nostalgic heeled flip-flops. Alternatively, shop the black version below. 2. Lupin Linen Tie Waistcoat - Black Price: $59.49 (was £ 119) If you're a fan of keeping it classic, opt for the black iteration instead, which looks great paired with tailored trousers for dressier occasions. This Brand Quietly Took Over My Summer Wardrobe - And Now There's 40% Off

Denim in this heatwave might not be your first thought but, and stick with me here, there's logic to the madness. When Aligne announces its extremely sought-after summer sale - and it includes up to 40% off its cult denim pieces - it's far better to ponder the logistics of wearing denim in June once you've added it to your basket. Or, (and this may be the more brutal truth) it might be time to gently remind you that this mini heatwave is (most likely) our British summer and it'll be back to a denim jacket and jeans by next week. In just five years, Aligne has carved itself quite a niche when it comes to wardrobe essentials, and the London-born brand has become a dependable (and somewhat under-the-radar) name in conscious fashion. Its Daphne Blazer remains firmly in the social media hall of fame, a viral style that cemented Aligne's tailoring credentials. Meanwhile, its outerwear earned celebrity fans like Katie Holmes, who was spotted wearing the chartreuse Stella Coat last year. But, beyond tailoring, it's Aligne's denim that really stands out as an everyday favourite - particularly when there are hefty discounts involved. ©Instagram/@savannahgowarty 1. Moto Collarless Denim Jacket Aligne's denim jacket is one of the best on the high street - even without its massive discount. A style that will stand the test of the seasons (its collarless design means it can be paired with both midi dresses and jeans), as well as the test of time. I've scrolled through Aligne's summer sale to find the standout pieces worth investing in, and, while there's plenty of temptation across all categories, it's, of course, the denim section that deserves highlighting. The Collarless Denim Jacket, for example, is a cooler take on its collared cousin, which means it can be thrown on over a floral midi dress or buttoned up with a mini skirt. Plus, the jacket is thicker than a cardigan but thinner than a puffer or wool coat, so it's the sort of jacket you'll be able to wear when the nights start to feel oddly cooler again. 2. Luella Mini Denim Dress As well as Aligne's denim jacket offerings, the brand has some cool denim dresses, too. This style in particular is a good one to have in your wardrobe, and with its button-down front, mini length and front patch pockets, it can be worn on its own or layered up. Denim dresses are another way to integrate the fabric into your summer wardrobe - even if (like me) you had previously ruled it out for being too structured or hot. Aligne's Luella Denim Mini Dress puts my previous apprehension to shame with its soft and gently flared structure, preppy front pockets and crew neck - and, it's a dress that can be polished with a simple kitten heel for a last-minute dinner plan. 3. Jate Denim Wrap Waistcoat An easy way to add texture and interest to an outfit without feeling like you're overheating in denim is to invest in a good denim waistcoat - like the Jate style from Aligne. Wear on its own paired with wide-leg trousers and chunky sandals, or with a t-shirt layered underneath. It wouldn't be an Aligne sale without including an excellent waistcoat, and the Jate Denim Wrap Waistcoat is a more relaxed take on the Daphne Blazer, featuring that iconic buttoned front, yet it can be dressed up with a pair of wide leg trousers and kitten heels, or down with a pair of capri pants and colourful Adidas trainers. The Aligne sale doesn't stop there, either. There are plenty of other pieces worth investing in. Shop the best of the Aligne summer sale below. 4. Santino Organic Cotton Maxi Dress If you're on the hunt for a summer dress that will keep you cool as well as keep you looking cool, this Aligne dress is an excellent choice. Finished with black statement buttons, a dropped waist and side seam pockets (!), style the dress with ballet flats and a shoulder bag. 5. ED Cherish Midi Denim Dress This dress is part of Aligne's collection with Elizabeth Day, which was inspired by Cher's wardrobe from the iconic film Clueless . Its Cherish Midi Dress features a fitted waist that falls into a pleated skirt, chest patch pockets and a flattering slim fit. 6. Gabriella Striped Denim Dress The Gabriella dress is a staple for those wanting to inject a bit of fun into a summer wardrobe, without being too over-the-top. The blue striped print, shirt collar and front zip make it perfect for wearing to the office, and then to after-work drinks with a simple change of shoe. 7. Emmet Striped Knitted Polo Polo shirts have done somewhat of a 360 this year as they shed the rugby boy stereotype and entered the wardrobe of fashion people in the know. This Aligne style is most definitely one of the best, with its bright blue and butter yellow colourway and preppy button collar. 8. Leah Linen Mini Dress Inspired by the brand's best-selling Leo waistcoat, the Leah dress features a button-up front, crew neck and adjustable back buckle to give you that cinched waist. Linen is also a non-negotiable in my summer wardrobe, so this dress gives you the best of both worlds and requires minimal styling. 9. Iggy Mini Denim Dress A white dress in the summer is just about as integral as a little black dress in the winter. If you're not sure which white dress style to go for, this Aligne one is both easy and breezy, with lace-up detailing at the neck, a boxy fit and a classic shirt collar. 10. Henry Slim Barrel Jeans A great pair of jeans forms the crux of most of our wardrobes, and there's no better time to invest in quality denim than when it's on sale. Barrel jeans have had quite the year, and there's no sign of the trend slowing down, so if you're looking to dip your toe in the trend, try this pair, with a slim fit and subtle barrel style. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more This viral jacket had a waiting list of over 2,500 people, and it's now back in stock From Marks & Spencer's khaki utility jacket, which caused a storm on social media, to the ubiquity of the brown suede blazer on the high street, there have been several jacket trends making their mark in 2025. Few, however, can come close to popularity of Aligne's Daphne blazer, which is currently the jacket of choice for many stylish women, and regularly spotted at fashion weeks across the globe. Aligne's blazer - seen here on Jelena Weir - is hugely popular with the fashion set So what makes this particular blazer special? First up, it's a welcome change from the massively oversized tailoring that has been trending over recent seasons, with its body-skimming, waist-nipping shape. One thing we particularly love is that the jacket features a buckle at the back so you can adjust the fit. It's also excellent for balancing out volume on your bottom half – with long sleeves, buttons to the waist and a split hem, the Daphne's shape is perfect for pairing with maxi skirts or high-waisted trousers. The coolest girls at Copenhagen Fashion Week wore theirs with voluminous, barrel-leg jeans. The main drawback is, of course, that the blazer is often sold out. In fact it is so seriously in demand that there was a 2,500 person waiting list until the brand recently restocked the jacket online. The high-necked Daphne blazer is currently available in classic black or navy for £175 – an investment piece, yes, but one that will have serious staying power in your wardrobe. We'll be buying one now to throw on over summer dresses for wedding season and wear it back-to-back come winter. Of course, given that cinched-in tailoring is something a signature aesthetic for the brand, Aligne has produced lots of versions to choose from, including different fabrics such as linen, various colours (on-trend butter yellow features) and a waistcoat in a similar style. If you don't love a buttoned up neckline, there is also a scoop neck version in summer-ready white.
