Georgia football secures massive 4-star commitment over Texas, Michigan

The post Georgia football secures massive 4-star commitment over Texas, Michigan appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kirby Smart and Georgia football didn't hang her heads for long after a disappointing finish to last season, as the Bulldogs were soundly beaten by Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl. Instead, as he always does, Smart got right back to work building another contender for the 2025 season and beyond. Advertisement Georgia did some good work in the transfer portal to bolster the roster heading into next season, but they have also been hard at work on the recruiting trail stocking the cupboard for the future. Georgia got another big-time commitment in the class of 2026 on Friday, securing a commitment from four-star defensive back Chace Calicut, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. 'BREAKING: Four-Star CB Chace Calicut has Committed to Georgia, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Fawcett wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'The 6'3 195 CB from Houston, TX chose the Bulldogs over Texas and Michigan.' Calicut also sent a message to Bulldogs fans to celebrate his commitment. 'There's not a better program producing dbs than UGA,' he said. 'Dawg nation I'm home!' Advertisement Getting a talented defensive back is a big win for Smart and the Dawgs, but it will be even sweeter for them considering that Texas, one of their biggest rivals, was also in on the coveted corner. Calicut is a Texas native, so this is a very impressive feat for Smart to steal him away from Steve Sarkisian and company. Following this commitment, Georgia now has the No. 3 overall class in 2026, according to On3 Sports. That group is currently headlined by five-star quarterback Jared Curtis and includes a number of highly sought-after players all over the field. While it comes as no surprise to see the Bulldogs near the top of those rankings as they do seemingly every year, that doesn't make it any less impressive. In the meantime, Georgia football will be pushing for another national title in 2025 while Calicut plays his final season at North Shore High School. It certainly has the talent to do so, and now it is better set up to continue the run through the end of the decade. Sleeper Recruit Sends Strong Message on Georgia Football

Sleeper Recruit Sends Strong Message on Georgia Football originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One 2026 defensive lineman described to On3's Jeremy Johnson that he grew up "a major supporter" of the Georgia Bulldogs. On June 18, the lineman participated in one of the program's camps in Athens, Georgia. Advertisement Yet, defensive lineman Colin Bussey suggested he never expected to have an opportunity to play for the Bulldogs. But much to his surprise, Bussey will now get that chance. The Bulldogs made Bussey an offer after his camp workout. 'I was shocked, I didn't know what to say,' Bussey told Johnson. '(They're) number one, of course.' Bussey adopted his admiration for Georgia football while watching games on television with his father. The defensive lineman, though, isn't just attracted to the Bulldogs because of his emotional attachment to the program. Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'The development piece for sure (stands out the most),' Bussey added. 'Man, I love the Georgia football program. They're a winning program, they develop you as a player, and get you to the next level.' Advertisement Bussey also told Johnson that he was already learning new things from Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott, who extended the defensive lineman the offer. Bussey doesn't have a star rating from recruiting websites. But Bulldogs recruiting insiders such as Dawg Nation's Jeff Sentell has touted the defensive lineman for his potential. According to 247Sports, Bussey has received 19 offers, most of which are from smaller football schools. Besides, Georgia, the NC State Wolfpack and Oklahoma State Cowboys are the other Power 5 programs to make offers to the defensive lineman. Johnson wrote that the On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine now considers Georgia the favorite, with a 39% chance, to land Bussey. Coveted Star Issues Promise to Georgia: 'I Won't Forget'

Coveted Star Issues Promise to Georgia: 'I Won't Forget' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Things remain very much up in the air with the recruitment of five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. But after his official visit to the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend, it's rather clear that no matter where the linebacker plays college football, he'll have a place in his mind for Georgia. Advertisement Atkinson suggested as much while speaking to Dawg Nation's Jeff Sentell this week. "I won't forget this visit," Atkinson told Sentell on Tuesday. When asked why he wouldn't forget it, Atkinson was again direct. "That's a good question, but I'm going to keep it to myself on this one." Sentell reported Atkinson's visit to the Bulldogs was "an absolute home run" from the school's perspective. The linebacker appears to share in that feeling. 'They want me there,' Atkinson told Sentell. 'They want me bad. They are doing everything they can to get me there. That's the message.' Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The On3 prediction machine has the Bulldogs as the favorite to land Atkinson, but it's a very close competition. Advertisement The prediction machine gives Georgia a 32.8% chance of signing the linebacker. The Clemson Tigers are second at 10.9%. In addition to Georgia, Atkinson has officially visited the Tigers and Oregon Ducks. Sentell wrote the linebacker may see the Ohio State Buckeyes next, but on Thursday, Atkinson tweeted that he plans on visiting the Texas Longhorns again. According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Atkinson is the No. 1 linebacker and top Georgia prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. Atkinson is also rated the No. 9 overall recruit. Sentell called Atkinson the best inside-the-box linebacker prospect in Georgia since NFL All-Pro Roquan Smith. Georgia flips 4-star CB Caden Harris from Vanderbilt

June 14 - Four-star cornerback Caden Harris flipped his commitment from home-state Vanderbilt to Georgia on Saturday. Harris, who plays at Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tenn., is ranked as the No. 11 cornerback and No. 85 prospect overall in the 2026 class by the 247Sports composite. He announced his Georgia commitment with a short video posted to social media site X that included this note: "Recruitment shut down!!" Harris committed to Vanderbilt in April but took an official visit to Georgia on June 6 and had four others scheduled with Southeastern Conference teams. "I felt real strong about Georgia coming in," Harris told DawgNation. "We'd be in contact for a while, and they had just been hard on me ever since. We had the OV planned. I knew for sure I had to come down and take it. I was coming into it strong, and I left out of it even stronger." Harris' commitment is the fifth this month for Georgia, which stands at No. 4 in the 247Sports class rankings. The Bulldogs trail Southern California, Ohio State and Notre Dame, still early in the 2026 recruitment cycle. Georgia's class includes one five-star prospect, quarterback Jared Curtis from Nashville (Tenn.) Christian School. He is ranked by the composite as the No. 1 QB and No. 4 overall player in the class. --Field Level Media

The No. 1 Linebacker Takes Major Career Decision This Week

The No. 1 Linebacker Takes Major Career Decision This Week originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tyler Atkinson, the No. 1 linebacker in On3's Industry Rankings for the Class of 2026, hasn't revealed his commitment yet, and coaches want to recruit him. Advertisement Kirby Smart and his staff will have their first true crack at selling 'Dawg Nation' in person this weekend. Atkinson announced that he will officially visit Athens. He feels a close connection with the program. 'It feels like I grew up at UGA because of all the camps and visits I've been to over the years since I was younger,' he said to Hayes Fawcett of On3. As a junior at Grayson High, Atkinson exploded for 166 tackles, 32 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception. Georgia Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart© Dale Zanine-Imagn Images Atkinson just made an official visit to Oregon, which was every bit as exceptional as he imagined it would be. Advertisement 'Oregon was everything I imagined it would be,' Atkinson told On3's Steve Wiltfong after the trip. 'It was just like the coaches had described. Coach Lanning and the entire staff showed me exactly how much they wanted me to be a part of their program and team … The way Oregon embraced and supported my personal brand, 'AtkNup', is next level. They definitely have a plan!' The Georgia Bulldogs lead On3's predictions with a 34.1% chance of landing him. Based on Atkinson's comments, it could very well become the program he joins. 'It's going to be good to get an OV there and talk to the coaches,' Atkinson said. 'I mean, just learn more and talk to them and go from there.' Advertisement 'It's just about me going there and just seeing it again and just being around the coaches and just seeing the energy and everything,' Atkinson said. 'Then, what's next is like whatever happens, happens.' This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 11, 2025, where it first appeared.
