Kirby Smart and his staff will have their first true crack at selling 'Dawg Nation' in person this weekend. Atkinson announced that he will officially visit Athens. He feels a close connection with the program.
'It feels like I grew up at UGA because of all the camps and visits I've been to over the years since I was younger,' he said to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
As a junior at Grayson High, Atkinson exploded for 166 tackles, 32 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

Atkinson just made an official visit to Oregon, which was every bit as exceptional as he imagined it would be.

'Oregon was everything I imagined it would be,' Atkinson told On3's Steve Wiltfong after the trip. 'It was just like the coaches had described. Coach Lanning and the entire staff showed me exactly how much they wanted me to be a part of their program and team … The way Oregon embraced and supported my personal brand, 'AtkNup', is next level. They definitely have a plan!'
The Georgia Bulldogs lead On3's predictions with a 34.1% chance of landing him. Based on Atkinson's comments, it could very well become the program he joins.
'It's going to be good to get an OV there and talk to the coaches,' Atkinson said. 'I mean, just learn more and talk to them and go from there.'

'It's just about me going there and just seeing it again and just being around the coaches and just seeing the energy and everything,' Atkinson said. 'Then, what's next is like whatever happens, happens.'

Georgia football looking to flip Wisconsin RB commit
The Georgia Bulldogs are looking to flip one of the Wisconsin Badgers' most prized commitments in the class of 2026. The Badgers, who have struggled mightily to recruit in the 2026 recruiting cycle (No. 60 recruiting class nationally with 14 commits), only have two four-star commitments. Of course, Georgia is hoping to flip one of Wisconsin's two four-star commitments. Four-star running back Amari Latimer committed to the Badgers in late June, but that has not stopped Georgia's pursuit of the talented running back. Latimer plays high school football for Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia. The 6-foot, 215-pound running back is the No. 306 recruit in the class of 2026 and the No. 20 running back prospect. The Wisconsin commit is the No. 36 prospect in Georgia, per 247Sports. As a junior, Lassiter rushed for over 1,100 yards and scored 19 total touchdowns. Latimer runs with excellent balance through contact and has good, but not elite speed. Latimer is the fourth-best running back in Georgia. One of the backs he's ranked behind is four-star Georgia commit Jae Lamar, who is the No. 120 recruit in the nation. Coach Kirby Smart and Georgia are not satisfied with just one running back commitment in the 2026 cycle. The Dawgs are in the top four contenders for five-star running back Savion Hiter, who is slated to announce his commitment on Aug. 19. If Georgia is unable to land Hiter, then don't be surprised if the Bulldogs make a strong push to flip Latimer. Georgia has a lot of recruiting advantages over Wisconsin and won't be afraid to use them to strengthen their No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Latimer's recruitment battle could go all the way until December's early signing period. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads! Nation's No. 1 running back announces commitment date
An elite running back recruit and Georgia Bulldogs recruiting target has announced his commitment date. Five-star RB prospect Savion Hiter will be committing on Aug. 19, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. Hiter will choose among Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee. Hiter is a five-star prospect from the class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound freshman plays high school football and track and field for Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia. Hiter made the Under-Armour All-American roster, alongside elite recruits such as Georgia freshmen defensive tackle Elijah Griffin and offensive tackle Juan Gaston, as well as Georgia commits Kaiden Prothro (five-star tight end) and Zech Fort (four-star safety). On 247Sports' analysis on Hiter, Andrew Ivins compared Hiter to former North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton. Hiter has no visits scheduled anymore. He took official visits with Ohio State (May 30), Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Tennessee (June 20). 247Sports has not released a Crystal Ball prediction for him yet. Georgia currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, with 30 total commits, including two five-stars and 21 four-stars. The Bulldogs earned a commitment from four-star running back Jae Lamar on June 21 already, but Georgia would like to earn multiple running back commits. In the 2025 cycle, the Bulldogs lost Ousmane Kromah on the first day of the early signing period when he flipped to Florida State. Hiter is the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 9 overall prospect from the class of 2026. He'd be the highest ranked commit in Georgia's class, should he choose to play for the Bulldogs. Hiter is the top ranked recruit in Virginia. If Georgia misses out on the five-star RB, then the Bulldogs may look to flip a four-star Wisconsin RB commit.

Brent Rooker Reveals Preferred Team Ahead of Trade Deadline
Brent Rooker Reveals Preferred Team Ahead of Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Athletics are making it clear which players are part of their long-term vision. Instead of selling off their top performers, the A's have doubled down on youth and internal development, locking in two of their most promising hitters to multi-year extensions. The first move came in January, when the club signed veteran slugger Brent Rooker to a five-year, $60 million extension. Rooker, who won a Silver Slugger Award and earned his first All-Star nod in 2024, has continued to anchor the lineup this season. Through 104 games, he's batting .263 with 21 home runs and 56 RBIs, recently hitting his 100th career home run. Two months later, the A's extended outfielder Lawrence Butler with a seven-year, $65.5 million deal that includes a club option through 2032 and could reach $87.5 million in total value. The 24-year-old has become one of Oakland's most reliable bats in 2025, posting a .249 average, 17 home runs, and 56 RBIs in 387 at-bats. His second-half surge in 2024 (.300/.330/.565) was a major bright spot during a year when the team improved from 50 to 69 wins. The A's enter play on July 24 with a 42-62 record, last in the American League West. However, they've clearly prioritized stability as they continue their relocation process. Now playing home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, the franchise is set to move to Las Vegas in 2028. The long-term uncertainty has led to speculation that the A's might shop players like Rooker ahead of the deadline. Instead, Rooker made it clear where he stands during a recent appearance on the Foul Territory podcast. 'I'm not going anywhere, Kratzy,' Rooker told co-host Erik Kratz. "I signed the extension because I'm where I want to be. I believe in what we're doing, the people that we have (roster and players), our coaching staff, in the building. I believe in everything going on and I want to be a part of that." Between Butler's breakout and Rooker's consistency, the A's appear to have their offensive foundation in place. The A's may not be ready to contend yet, but the message is clear: they're not starting from scratch much longer.
