CID's Dayanand Shetty recalls one time when a scene went wrong; shares ‘My finger touched my co-star's nose, he started bleeding'

Veteran actor Dayanand Shetty , best known for his iconic role as Inspector Daya in the long-running crime series CID , recently opened up about an unexpected mishap that occurred on set during his two-decade journey with the show. Known for his towering presence and powerful screen persona, Shetty revealed that he always had to exercise extra caution while filming intense action scenes, especially those involving physical gestures like slaps. Before his acting career, Shetty was a professional athlete, specializing in shot put. While his athletic background helped him build the strength and discipline needed for action-packed roles, it occasionally became a challenge on set. 'I have broken many doors on the CID set, but I would never make contact with anyone's face while slapping them,' he shared in an interview with Filmee Keeda. Recalling a rare incident, Shetty said, 'Once my fingers touched someone's nose during a slapping scene and he started bleeding. It can be that dangerous. But that happened only once in my 22-year CID career. Otherwise, I never made contact. It just looks real on screen.' Despite his powerful persona, Shetty emphasized the importance of professionalism and safety on set, always ensuring his co-stars were never harmed during filming. Meanwhile, CID is gearing up for high-stakes drama in its latest episodes. A new promo teases an intense confrontation between ACP Pradyuman (Shivaji Satam) and ACP Ayushman (Parth Samthaan). The tension escalates as Abhijeet is shot while rescuing a kidnapped child, leaving Daya distressed over his partner's life-threatening situation. With old faces returning and fresh storylines unfolding, CID continues to deliver gripping action and emotional depth, keeping its loyal audience hooked.

CID's Dayanand Shetty recalls how an accidental touch from his finger left his co-star's nose bleeding: ‘Just happened once in two decades'

' Daya, darwaza tod do' — the iconic dialogue etched in every CID fan's memory — is a testament to the character's strength, something that actor Dayanand Shetty had to be mindful of while filming. Shetty recently revealed that he had to be extremely cautious while performing scenes where his character was supposed to slap his co-actor, as his powerful athletic build could unintentionally injure them. Before entering the film and television industry, Shetty was a professional athlete pursuing a career in shot put, but a knee injury ended his journey in sports. While Shetty's background in sports has benefited various aspects of his acting career, the strength he gained from years of training also posed a potential risk to those working with him on set. However, he also insisted that he makes sure he is very careful and doesn't injure anyone. In an interaction with Filmee Keeda, Shetty disclosed that he was always particular about avoiding physical contact with co-stars during intense scenes. He said, 'I have broken many doors on CID set but I would never make contact with anyone's face while slapping them.' Recalling how even a slight touch from him once caused injury, he shared, 'Once my fingers touched someone's nose during a slapping scene and he started bleeding. It can be that dangerous but that happened only once in my 22-year CID career. Otherwise, I never made contact to anyone's face. It looks real on screen.' CID has been one of the longest-running television shows in India. It began airing in 1998 and ran for 20 years before going off air in 2018. However, due to popular demand, the makers revived the show in 2024 on Sony TV, and it also started streaming on Netflix. Despite the nostalgia and fanfare, the show has been struggling with low TRPs in its new season. In January 2025, reports indicated that the show recorded 65 percent lower television ratings compared to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, another long-running TV series. According to BARC's TRP report for Week 2 of 2025, the show managed a viewership rating of just 0.8. The exit of actor Shivaji Satam, who portrayed the iconic role of ACP Pradyuman, also significantly impacted the show's viewership.

CID Silent Episode: In an unprecedented move, the makes of the popular crime show, 'CID" have come up with a silent episode. It's not just about solving a murder — it's about uncovering something far deeper… something personal." Adding on, Aditya Srivastava aka Senior Inspector Abhijeet revealed, 'As an actor, I've always believed that the true power of storytelling lies in the ability to evoke emotion without relying on words. And this Sunday's silent episode of CID pushes that belief to its absolute limit. It's a completely new experience for us as actors and for the audience. But it's precisely this challenge that makes the episode so special. We're truly grateful to our viewers who have stood by CID for all these years. It's because of their love and support that we continue to explore new ways of storytelling. I hope this episode connects with them, not just as a thriller, but as something that stays with them even after."
