2025 Land Rover Defender Octa Black: South African price and specs
Land Rover has whipped the wraps off the Defender Octa Black, with the local arm of the British marque revealing how much the menacing-looking limited edition will cost in South Africa. See pricing below… Following the reveal of the Range Rover Sport SV Black, Land Rover has now applied the same formula to the flagship Defender, the Octa. And it will strictly be available in limited numbers. The Defender Octa Black features Narvik Black exterior paintwork, Satin Black Powder Coat finish for the front undershield and rear scuff plates, and gloss black exhaust outlets. Several underbody elements have also been finished in the latter hue. The limited edition is available with the choice of 20- and 22-inch wheels, replete with black centre caps. The exterior theme is carried over to the cabin, where the facia is finished in black and the seats are upholstered in Ebony semi-aniline leather and textile material. Carbon-fibre trim is available as a cost option. As a reminder, the Coventry automaker's most powerful Defender employs a 4.4l V8, sourced from BMW. The twin-turbocharged petrol unit produces a healthy 467kW and 750N.m of torque, delivered to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. According to Land Rover, these figures allow the pinnacle Defender to sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in four seconds, before topping out at 250km/h, or 210km/h when fitted with 20-inch wheels. Land Rover Defender Octa Black price in South Africa The Defender Octa Black is priced from R3 979 500, making it R315 900 more expensive than the standard Defender Octa, which we sampled in First Edition form in January 2025. Included in the pricing are a five-year/100 000km maintenance plan and a warranty spanning the same number of years and distance. Land Rover Defender Octa Black — R3 979 500 Said Mark Cameron, MD of the Defender brand: 'The introduction of the Defender Octa Black takes things up a notch [on the standard derivative]. We know our clients love giving their Defenders all-black finishes, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface – inside and out – to create the ultimate tough luxury Defender Octa.' Land Rover Defender Octa Black Is The Batmobile Of SUVs

This is how a black edition should be done Land Rover revealed the ultimate version of its current Defender last year, known as the Defender Octa. At the heart of this towering SUV is a 626-horsepower V8, which adds breathtaking on-road pace to the Defender's famous off-roading capabilities. Now, the manufacturer has taken the covers off the Defender Octa Black, which is murdered out to an extent that you might not see it at all in a dark alley. It follows the recent reveal of the Range Rover SV Black. Here's what's new for this hulk of an SUV. 30 Exterior Elements Get The Black Treatment While many black editions of new cars have dark wheels and mirrors and call it a day, Land Rover has really gone all-out with the Octa Black. 30 individual exterior elements get either a Gloss Black or Satin Black finish, concealing practically every piece of brightwork found on other Defenders. Of course, the paintwork is key to giving this Defender its menacing appearance. It's called Narvik Black, which is the 'truest black' of all the Defender colors. Although a gloss finish is standard, customers can add a matte protective film optionally. 20-inch forged wheels or 22-inch gloss black wheels are available, and even the center caps and calipers have a black finish. A Satin Black Powder Coat finish has been applied to the front under shield and rear scuff plates, while gloss black is used for the tow eye cover and quad exhaust tips. The Defender is a large vehicle – the standard Octa stands 78.5 inches tall, is 82.8 inches wide from mirror to mirror, and is close to 200 inches long with its spare wheel – and the Octa Black's dark exterior makes an already imposing SUV look even meaner. Interior Gets The Black Look, Too Inside, the Octa Black receives ebony semi-aniline leather upholstery with Kvadrat; the latter is a first for the Defender, adding an even softer finish to the seats. Seatbacks and armrest hinges have a Carpathian Grey finish to contrast with the black upholstery. The dashboard has a Cross Car Beam in a Satin Black Powder Coat, and a Chopped Carbon Fiber finish is available as an option. Elsewhere, the Defender Octa Black retains everything that makes the Octa so special. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 musters 626 hp, and there's a special Octa Mode for off-road jaunts. A 13.1-inch touchscreen is a new addition to the Defender lineup, and the 15-speaker Meridian system provides immersive audio. 'The introduction of Defender OCTA Black takes things up a notch,' said Mark Cameron, Managing Director at Land Rover. 'We know our clients love giving their Defenders all‑black finishes, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface – inside and out – to create the ultimate tough luxury Defender OCTA.' Pricing for the Land Rover Defender Octa Black isn't available yet, but the standard Octa starts from $152,000, so expect this one to get closer to $160k. An on-sale date is yet to be announced. New Land Rover Defender Octa Black breaks cover
Land Rover has lifted the covers off its new Defender Octa Black that, similar to the recently revealed Range Rover Sport SV Black, embraces a sinister darkened aesthetic. Visually, the Octa Black stands out with Narvik Black paintwork complemented by Satin Black Powder Coat accents on the front undershield and rear scuff plates, as well as exposed recovery points finished in matching Satin Black. Gloss Black detailing extends to the front tow eye cover, quad exhaust tips and Land Rover grille badging, which features darkened silver script. Underbody components such as the exhaust silencer cover and the optional deployable tow bar also adopt Gloss or Satin Black finishes. Image: Supplied Wheel options include 20" forged alloys or 22" Gloss Black rims with black centre caps and Shadow Atlas Defender script. Behind them sit Gloss Black brake calipers with contrasting Sentient Silver lettering. Inside, the cabin introduces Ebony Semi-Aniline leather with Kvadrat textile inserts to the Defender range for the first time. Paired with new perforation patterns and backrest stitching, Land Rover says it lends a softer, more tactile finish to the Performance Seats. The seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey, while the Cross Car Beam on the dashboard is treated in Satin Black Powder Coat. Optional Chopped Carbon Fibre trim adds further visual impact. As with the regular Defender Octa, power is provided by a BMW-sourced 4.4 l twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 petrol engine delivering 467kW and 750Nm (boosted to 800Nm when Dynamic Launch Mode is engaged). Paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and high/low range transfer case, Land Rover claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h (when fitted with 22" wheels). Supporting this formidable straight-line performance is Land Rover's 6D Dynamics suspension system: a hydraulically interlinked set-up with continuously variable semiactive dampers engineered to minimise pitch and body roll while preserving ride comfort. Compared with standard Defender models, the Octa Black sits 28mm higher and has a 68mm wider track. Revised suspension geometry, reinforced wishbones and bespoke dampers with separate accumulators further improve dynamics. Braking is handled by 400mm discs up front with Brembo calipers and the steering system features the fastest ratio of any Defender to date. Inside, the cabin introduces Ebony Semi-Aniline leather with Kvadrat textile inserts to the Defender range for the first time. Image: Supplied The Octa Black also features a range of off-road drive modes, including a dedicated Octa Mode for performance driving in challenging terrain. Land Rover's proven Terrain Response system remains, with its familiar suite of settings including sand, mud and ruts, grass, gravel, snow and rock crawl. A standard ClearSight Ground View camera helps improve visibility in technical off-road scenarios. Priced from R3,979,500, the Defender Octa Black will be available in limited numbers, each sold in exclusive pre-configured specifications.
