Delhi-bound Air India flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport diverted to Kolkata

A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport was diverted to Kolkata on Sunday (June 29, 2025) due to "persistent warm temperature" in the cabin. The aircraft, however, landed safely, Air India said in a statement. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly our passengers to Delhi at the earliest, the airline statement said. "Air India flight AI357 operating from Haneda to Delhi on June 29 made a precautionary diversion to Kolkata due to persistent warm temperature experienced in the cabin," Air India said. The aircraft is currently undergoing checks, it stated, adding that its ground teams in Kolkata are providing all necessary support to passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen diversion.

Delhi-bound Air India flight gets bomb threat written on tissue paper, declared a hoax

A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Mumbai early Friday received a bomb threat written on a tissue paper, police said. While the threat was later declared to be a hoax, this is the second time in one week that an aircraft has received a bomb threat. According to Flightradar24, the Air India flight (AI2954) left Mumbai at 2.41 am and landed in Delhi at 5 am. Soon after, the police received a PCR call reporting the threat. 'A call was received at around 5 am from PCR Command Room stating that a caller, Prabhat Kumar Gupta, has telephonically informed that in flight 2954… a crew member has found a tissue paper in the cabin, on which it was written – 'Bomb in flight Air India 2948, Air India 171',' said an officer. However, checks conducted by the Delhi Fire Services and the Central Industrial Security Force revealed that the threat was a hoax. 'A non-specific security alert was detected on one of our aircraft. Standard security procedures were duly carried out, and the aircraft has been cleared for the next flight. Air India accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,' said an Air India spokesperson. Last Saturday, an Air India flight from Birmingham to Delhi had to be diverted to Riyadh after it also received a hoax bomb threat. This is not the first time that airline crew members have found bomb threats scrawled on paper inside a flight. On October 9 last year, a note was found in the washroom of a Delhi-bound Vistara flight from London. The note claimed that there was a bomb on the flight. While the passengers were evacuated, checks revealed the threat to be a hoax. Last May, a crumpled piece of paper was found in an IndiGo flight heading towards Varanasi from Delhi, claiming there was a bomb on board. All 176 passengers had to be evacuated, and the flight was frisked for suspicious objects before it was also declared a hoax threat.

'There is a bomb on the flight': Tissue note causes major scare on Air India flight; airline responds

"There is a bomb on the flight," -- the handwritten note on a piece of tissue paper triggered severe fright aboard an Air India flight on Friday. The crew member who discovered the note raised a major security scare; however, upon investigation, it was found to be a hoax. A major security scare unfolded in the early hours of Friday after a bomb threat was reported on an Air India flight stationed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Around 4:00 am, a crew member onboard discovered a threatening message scribbled on a tissue paper. The note read: "There is a bomb on the Air India flight." Following the discovery of the note, an extensive search operation was initiated. Security teams carried out a thorough investigation and rigorous checks to ensure the safety of passengers and assess the credibility of the threat. Authorities later confirmed that the bomb threat was a "hoax." The threat was reported at Terminal 3 of the airport, which handles several international flights, prompting a swift emergency response. An investigation is currently underway to identify the source of the threat. 'A non-specific security alert was detected on one of our aircraft. Standard security procedures were duly carried out, and the aircraft has been cleared for the next flight. Air India accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,' the airline said in a statement. Just over a week ago, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight originating from Kochi made an emergency landing in Nagpur following a bomb threat. The aircraft, which had arrived from Muscat, departed for Delhi at 9:31 am carrying 157 passengers and six crew members. A similar incident occurred in February last year, when a bomb threat was received at Delhi airport for a Kolkata-bound flight before departure. That too was later confirmed to be a hoax after thorough checks. In another instance, in October last year, more than 250 flights across India were disrupted due to a series of hoax bomb threats. Bomb threat at Delhi airport prompts emergency response, turns out to be a hoax

Jun 27, 2025 01:45 PM IST The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi received a bomb threat early Thursday morning, which later turned out to be hoax. (File photo) The Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.(Reuters) The threat was received on a paper that a crew member discovered on a flight at 4:42 am. A search operation was subsequently conducted and the Delhi Fire Service declared it a hoax. The threat was received at Terminal 3 of the airport, from where many international flights operate. It had prompted a swift emergency response. Further investigation into determining the source of the threat is underway. Over a week before this, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight that took off from Kochi made an emergency landing in Nagpur after a bomb threat. The flight had arrived from Muscat and departed for Delhi at 9.31 am carrying 157 passengers and six crew members. A similar bomb threat was received at the Delhi airport in February last year, which also turned out to be a hoax following inspections. Back then, the threat was for a Kolkata-bound flight for Delhi before it took off. In October last year, over 250 flights were affected across India due to hoax bomb threats. (With ANI inputs)

Airport urges NMC to keep areas with meat shops in flight path clean

Nagpur: As airports are reviewing their safety measures following the Ahmedabad crash, Mihan India Limited (MIL) has once again written to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to keep the areas in the flight path of Nagpur airport clear of garbage to prevent bird hits. The meat shops in Sonegaon and Jaitala, areas close to the airport, remain a cause of concern. Large birds like eagles and kites are attracted to the chunks of discarded meat thrown around the shops, threatening bird strikes. In 2018, a Delhi-bound Air India flight carrying 180 passengers was grounded after a bird struck the right wing of the aircraft. NMC has been requested to ensure that shops keep the meat covered so that birds are not attracted to it. MIL, the state govt agency which currently operates the airport, has been sending such letters to NMC from time to time. Things have improved over time. Last week, yet another communication was sent, said the senior airport director, Abid Ruhi. An NMC official confirmed receiving the letter. "This is part of a regular process, and the civic body has been keeping the area clean despite challenges," the official said. Not just birds of prey looking for meat pieces, even kabutarbazi (pigeon flying competitions) poses a threat to the aircraft, said a source in the airport. "Pigeons reared by the locals for the sport hover above the airport. As the pigeons constantly fly in a fixed circuit, there is a likelihood of bird strikes. Repeated measures have helped control kabutarbazi too," said the source. In winter, the airport has to keep an eye on the migratory birds, especially the Siberian crane, that fly over the Ambazari Lake, which comes in the flight path. A designated bird watcher with binoculars tracks the movement and reports to the air traffic control tower if necessary, said a source. The white-colour cranes can be easily spotted, a source.
