"There is a bomb on the flight," -- the handwritten note on a piece of tissue paper triggered severe fright aboard an Air India flight on Friday. The crew member who discovered the note raised a major security scare; however, upon investigation, it was found to be a hoax.
A major security scare unfolded in the early hours of Friday after a bomb threat was reported on an Air India flight stationed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Around 4:00 am, a crew member onboard discovered a threatening message scribbled on a tissue paper. The note read: "There is a bomb on the Air India flight."
Following the discovery of the note, an extensive search operation was initiated. Security teams carried out a thorough investigation and rigorous checks to ensure the safety of passengers and assess the credibility of the threat. Authorities later confirmed that the bomb threat was a "hoax."
The threat was reported at Terminal 3 of the airport, which handles several international flights, prompting a swift emergency response. An investigation is currently underway to identify the source of the threat.
'A non-specific security alert was detected on one of our aircraft. Standard security procedures were duly carried out, and the aircraft has been cleared for the next flight. Air India accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,' the airline said in a statement.
Just over a week ago, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight originating from Kochi made an emergency landing in Nagpur following a bomb threat. The aircraft, which had arrived from Muscat, departed for Delhi at 9:31 am carrying 157 passengers and six crew members.
A similar incident occurred in February last year, when a bomb threat was received at Delhi airport for a Kolkata-bound flight before departure. That too was later confirmed to be a hoax after thorough checks.
In another instance, in October last year, more than 250 flights across India were disrupted due to a series of hoax bomb threats.

New Delhi: Saquib Nachan, head of the so-called Islamic State's (ISIS) India operations and former office-bearer of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital Saturday afternoon after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Saquib Abdul Hameed Nachan belonged to Padgha town in Maharashtra's Thane district. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he rose as a senior figure in SIMI, an organisation banned in 2001 for anti-national activities. Nachan's name came under national spotlight during investigations into a series of bombings across Mumbai in 2002 and 2003, including the blasts at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund station. These attacks left at least 13 people dead and injured over a hundred. He was eventually convicted in these cases under charges of illegal arms possession, including an AK-56 rifle. A special court operating under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) sentenced him to 10 years in prison. He completed his term in 2017, receiving remission of over five months for good behaviour. In 2023, he was again arrested, this time by the NIA, as part of a crackdown on ISIS terrorists and supporters across India. He was identified as the main accused in what was labelled the Delhi-Padgha ISIS Terror Module case.

Ahmedabad: More than two weeks after the Ahmedabad plane crash, the DNA test has ascertained the identity of the last victim, and the death toll in the tragedy now stands at 260, officials said on Saturday. The remains of the last victim were handed over to the family, they said. The medical authorities had earlier pegged the fatality count at 270. A London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in the Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city on June 12, killing 241 on board and several others on the ground. One passenger miraculously survived. "The DNA matching of the last body of the Air India plane crash victim has been done. The victim's mortal remains have been handed over to relatives," Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Dr Rakesh Joshi said. "With this, the death toll in the plane crash is 260," he said, adding that three patients, who suffered injuries in the air crash, were undergoing treatment in the civil hospital. The bodies of all 260 victims have been handed over to the relatives so far. Of the 241 passengers and crew members who died, the mortal remains of 240 had been identified earlier while one body was pending for match. The matching of the DNA samples confirmed the victim's identity on Friday, the officials said. Apart from 241 passengers and crew members, 19 persons on the ground died, they said. A 40-year-old British national, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, emerged as the lone survivor of the plane crash. Till June 23, officials had confirmed the identity of 259 victims. They had to carry out DNA tests to establish the identity of the victims as many bodies were charred beyond recognition or damaged. The 260 victims included 200 Indians, including 181 passengers and 19 ground victims, seven Portuguese nationals, 52 British nationals and one Canadian, the government said in a release. An official release said the DNA matching process was very complicated as a large number of bodies had to be identified since they were beyond recognition. In such cases, the DNA matching of victims with their family members takes months. But in the case of the Air India plane crash, identification of samples was completed in about two weeks, it said.

Multiple videos showed office staff celebrating and dancing on several Bollywood songs. The videos drew a sharp criticism online over the timing of the office party. In response to the online criticism, AISATS terminated the senior personnel involved and issued warnings to several other employees, the report added. AISATS operates as a 50-50 joint venture between Air India Ltd, now under the Tata Group, and SATS Ltd, a major provider of gateway services and food solutions.
