'Batters should be licking their lips': Kevin Pietersen's message to India, picks England's weakness
Kevin Pietersen thinks Indian batters will be 'licking their lips' against England(Image via) As India gears up for a high-stakes five-match Test series against England, former England star Kevin Pietersen has highlighted a key advantage for the visitors. In a clip posted on Delhi Capitals' X handle, Pietersen pointed out the absence of England's veteran fast bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson as a significant factor India can exploit. "But I think where India should count themselves very lucky, there's no Anderson and there's no Broad. So it'll be a young bowling line-up, and if they bat well in England I think they can really put up a good Test against this England side. It'll be the first time that they play a home series in years and years and years without Broad and without Anderson. So, from an Indian's perspective, the batters should be licking their lips saying 'Let's go and bat long'. If they bat long, they can do well," said Pietersen, who served as DC's mentor for the 2025 Indian Premier League season. The series, which begins at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20, marks the start of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. It will be a crucial test for both teams, with India led by newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant. The absence of experienced Indian leaders Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli adds to the significance of this tour as the team looks to establish a new era in Test cricket. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Nick Knight EXCLUSIVE: On Shubman Gill and absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in England England, captained by Ben Stokes, will field a relatively young bowling attack in the absence of Broad and Anderson, which could provide India's batsmen with opportunities to build long innings. Historically, English conditions have tested even the best players, but Pietersen's comments suggest that Indian batters have a chance to capitalize and put pressure on the hosts. Poll Will India's batting lineup capitalize on the absence of Broad and Anderson? Definitely Unlikely With fresh leadership and several new faces in the squads, this series promises to be a fascinating battle. India will be eager to end their long wait for a Test series victory in England, a feat they last achieved in 2007. The five Tests will be played across iconic English venues including Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford, and Kennington Oval. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. India tour of England 2025: KL Rahul hopes to play with childhood buddy Karun Nair for a long time
Senior batter KL Rahul is quite excited about Karun Nair's return to India's Test fold in the five-match series against England starting on Friday as he believes that his childhood teammate has displayed commendable resolve while dealing with the hardships of being left out in the past. Nair and Rahul, both 33, have played age-group cricket together since their childhood and are close friends. While Rahul has been a part of the Indian set-up, Nair endured a prolonged eight-year snub despite a good Test beginning, including a triple hundred against England. ALSO READ | Sink or soar? India's fresh-look Test team set for England showdown 'We started playing cricket as 11-year-old boys together and we have been on this journey ever since. Both of us have had our ups and downs. He got his opportunity, scored a triple hundred, faced a bit of tough time after that for a lot of reasons,' Rahul told Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals' media team after the season that concluded earlier this month. 'But what has stood out is the way he has performed in the last 2-3 years,' he added, referring to Nair's stellar run for Vidarbha in the domestic circuit. Rahul said Nair relied on going 'back to basics' during his time away from international cricket. 'We have spoken about his time in the UK and him having played County cricket, and the difficulties and the challenges that he faced. To have that drive to make a comeback to the Indian team despite all the hardships is commendable. I hope both of us can play for a very long time for the Indian team,' he said. Talking about his own preparations for the series, the right-handed batter said he began right after the IPL. 'I spoke to my coach as well to get prepared for this assignment. It's always a challenge coming to England as they are a pretty good side, especially when they play at home. It's going to be a challenge for all of us as we are a comparatively young team,' he said. Kohli, Rohit will be missed Rahul reiterated that the dressing room would miss Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom retired from Tests last month. 'Virat and Rohit have been the pillars of Indian cricket for the last decade or so, and not having them around will be a huge miss. In my whole career so far, I have never walked into a team where there is no Virat or Rohit,' he said. 'The 50-odd Test matches that I have played, either Virat or Rohit or both of them have been there. To walk into that dressing room feels a bit strange. But of course, you have to respect their decision. They have given absolutely everything for the country and they will remain legends of Indian cricket. IPL's most expensive player, not Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer, this man got Rs 10.75 crore just to bowl three overs, his name is... plays for...
This year's IPL, a player got ₹10.75 crore for just three overs, surprising fans and making the franchise unhappy. Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer experienced a lot of criticism after the end of IPL 2025. Although they secured huge deals, their performances did not meet anyone's expectations. The fans let their feelings known that they weren't happy with the runs made by the team. Lucknow Super Giants bought Pant for a massive Rs 27 crore, but he only scored 269 runs in all 14 matches. It made people wonder how fair the team's benefits were for the price they paid. In 11 IPL matches, Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought for Rs 23.75 crore, could manage just 142 runs. Buying so many expensive players without achieving any wins disappointed the KKR fans. One of Delhi Capitals' signings, T Natarajan, whose price was 10.75 crore, only got the chance to play in two matches. In one game, he only bowled for 3 overs, and allowed 49 runs without getting a wicket. Most people argued that Natarajan failed to live up to his enormous pay scale. The rain affected one match, and he only played once and didn't do well.
