Delhi CM flags off new DEVI e-buses

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 105 new orange-coloured DEVI (Delhi EV Inter-connector) electric buses and inaugurated the newly built Sector A9 depot in Narela, calling it a step towards cleaner and more efficient public transport for the capital. The CM said the depot was completed in just 90 days and claimed it reflects the BJP government's commitment to deliver on promises made to Delhi residents. She also took a jibe at the previous AAP government, accusing it of pushing Delhi Transport Corporation into losses. 'Buses are Delhi's lifeline. But under the previous government, routes were cut, buses reduced and corruption seeped in,' she said. Referring to the CAG report, Gupta claimed that DTC had incurred losses amounting to Rs 65,000 crore during the AAP govt. She alleged even the free bus ride scheme for women was marred by corruption and panic buttons were installed 'just for show'.

Delhi Chief Minister adds more wheels to public bus fleet

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) biggest bus terminus in north-west Delhi, in Narela Sector A-9, on Friday. She also flagged off 105 new Delhi Electric Vehicle interconnector (DEVi) buses at the depot. She said that the transport hub will boost public transport in north-west Delhi by connecting it with several other public transport hubs in the city and termed it a 'testament to the Delhi government's commitment to strengthening public transport and building a cleaner, greener, and more connected Capital'. Currently, over 2,000 electric buses are operational in Delhi, and the government is actively working towards achieving 100% electrification of the entire transport system by 2027, she said, adding that many of the new DEVi buses will be driven by women. Ms. Gupta also attacked the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of corruption and of pushing the public transporter into huge losses. 'Buses are Delhi's lifeline. But under the previous government, routes were cut, buses reduced, and corruption was committed,' she said. Citing a Comptroller and Auditor General report, which was tabled in the Assembly in March this year, on the functioning of the DTC under AAP's tenure, the CM said that the public transporter's liabilities had bumped up from ₹28,263 crore in 2015-16 to ₹65,274 crore in 2021-22. She alleged that the AAP government's 'pink tickets' scheme, which allowed women to travel on buses free of cost, was marred by corruption and that the panic buttons were installed 'just for show'. The Opposition party did not issue a response to the allegations levelled by the CM. Built in 90 days In her address following the inauguration in Narela, the CM said, 'The depot was constructed in 90 days, reflecting the government's efficiency and dedication.' She added that the 'modern transport hub', built for ₹2.63 crore and developed over 4,000 sqm of land, has a pantry, medical facilities, clean toilets, RO water plants, and EV charging stations, among other amenities. 'It will be a hub for 75 buses, most of which will be electric, connecting north-east Delhi with other transport hubs, such as the Old Delhi railway station and Mori Gate,' said Ms. Gupta. The nine-metre low-floor, air-conditioned, wheelchair-friendly DEVi buses are equipped with panic buttons, CCTV cameras, and real-time tracking features.

Tehkhand may get automated testing station in four months

New Delhi: Delhi Transport Corporation has initiated the process of setting up a new four-lane automated testing station at its Tehkhand depot in southeast Delhi. The testing station, with a budget of around 2 crore, is expected to be completed in four months. This will serve as Delhi's second automated testing station, following the existing facility at Jhuljhuli, which currently operates beyond its capacity. The Union govt's directive last year, mandating states to establish automated testing station facilities for commercial vehicle permit testing, has intensified the vehicle congestion at Jhuljhuli. Another such facility in Burari is under construction and is currently operating as a manual facility. "This facility will reduce manual inspection, ensure transparency and improve the roadworthiness of vehicles. Advanced technology and modern software systems will be employed to evaluate various vehicle parameters, including emissions, brakes, suspension and alignment measurements. The reason behind the selection of the Tehkhand depot was its ample space and central connectivity for vehicles that find the Jhuljhuli centre too far," said a senior official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Efficient Cleaning for Compliant Warehouses SearchMore Learn More Undo The automation will include tests of roller brakes, headlights, speedometers, steering linkage, gear, suspension, sound level, side slip, insulation, etc. Equipment like smoke opacimeter, onboard diagnostics scanner and exhaust gas analyser will also be used. Different areas, including emission test and visual inspection areas, electrical panel rooms and sheds, will be created. The transport department plans to have five new automated testing stations across Delhi. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Proper Seats & CCTVs: DTC's Bus Shelters Set For Revamp

New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi can expect a better and more comfortable public transport experience soon. Delhi govt is going to upgrade all the bus stands in the national capital with modern infrastructure, including proper seating, shade and sanitation. Chief minister Rekha Gupta has directed immediate redevelopment of all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus stands. "A transportation system is truly effective only when it is accessible and convenient for commuters," she asserted. A senior official of the transport department said that these upgraded shelters would have security features like CCTV cameras and panic buttons, among other amenities. The shelters will have ramps, tactile paths and handrails so that these can be easily accessed by those with reduced mobility. They will also have demarcated areas for the elderly, women and persons with disabilities. There are also plans to install a route navigation map, the official added. The condition of several bus stands in Delhi is not up to the mark. Rusted structures and missing seats are a common sight at these bus shelters. Though the previous AAP govt planned to build 1,400 bus queue shelters three years ago, multiple tender negotiations between the transport department and prospective bidders yielded no results. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo These shelters were likely to feature digital displays showing real-time bus information and enhanced security measures, including CCTV surveillance and panic buttons. The official said that most of the bidders backed out because many of these bus shelters were in outer Delhi, which they did not find economically viable for earning through advertising. "The tender conditions will now be tweaked and floated again." Meanwhile, Delhi govt plans to deploy 900 electric buses in the coming months as thousands of buses are due to be retired this year. Among the new buses that will be purchased are both twelve-metre and nine-metre buses. Another official said that the tender process and other formalities were over. "You will start seeing more new buses soon. Several other facilities are being planned which will minimise the inconveniences the bus commuters face," he added. The total number of buses from both DTC and cluster fleets is around 7,500. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Good news for Delhiites, DTC set to resume interstate bus service, buses to connect THESE cities and religious places, minister says...

New Delhi: Good news for Delhiites as DTC is likely to once again start its interstate bus services soon. According to the reports, 100 electronic buses will run on 17 routes. These buses will not only connect some of the major cities of the neighbouring states but will also enhance Delhi's connectivity with major religious sites. Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh took this key decision during the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board meeting held on Friday. The meeting was attended by the Transport Commissioner, the DTC Chairman, and other board member officials. 100 type-3 Electronic Buses to Run During the meeting, the board informed the Transport Minister that 100 new Type-3 electric interstate buses will be operated under DTC. These buses will run on 17 routes of the neighbouring states, which will include several religious sites. The Transport Minister said that this initiative is in line with the Delhi government's 'Viksit Delhi Sankalp Patra' and the 'Green Delhi, Clean Delhi' vision. It is important to note that these DTC buses will be run by the current drivers. This will allow full utilization of the existing workforce. These interstate electric buses will also contribute to keeping the environment clean in neighboring states. During the meeting, the board members also presented a plan to the minister to increase DTC's non-fare revenue through advertisements in order to boost its overall income. Officials claimed that this initiative could potentially generate around ₹5 crore annually for DTC through advertisements. Under this plan, advertisements will be placed not only inside and outside the buses but also at bus depots, bus terminals, and bus stops.
