Good news for Delhiites, DTC set to resume interstate bus service, buses to connect THESE cities and religious places, minister says...
New Delhi: Good news for Delhiites as DTC is likely to once again start its interstate bus services soon. According to the reports, 100 electronic buses will run on 17 routes. These buses will not only connect some of the major cities of the neighbouring states but will also enhance Delhi's connectivity with major religious sites.
Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh took this key decision during the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board meeting held on Friday. The meeting was attended by the Transport Commissioner, the DTC Chairman, and other board member officials. 100 type-3 Electronic Buses to Run
During the meeting, the board informed the Transport Minister that 100 new Type-3 electric interstate buses will be operated under DTC. These buses will run on 17 routes of the neighbouring states, which will include several religious sites. The Transport Minister said that this initiative is in line with the Delhi government's 'Viksit Delhi Sankalp Patra' and the 'Green Delhi, Clean Delhi' vision.
It is important to note that these DTC buses will be run by the current drivers. This will allow full utilization of the existing workforce. These interstate electric buses will also contribute to keeping the environment clean in neighboring states.
During the meeting, the board members also presented a plan to the minister to increase DTC's non-fare revenue through advertisements in order to boost its overall income. Officials claimed that this initiative could potentially generate around ₹5 crore annually for DTC through advertisements. Under this plan, advertisements will be placed not only inside and outside the buses but also at bus depots, bus terminals, and bus stops.

Out of the 57 layout plans, several concerned private properties. The formation of the standing committee faced a delay of two and a half years, resulting in numerous projects being held up. Any project exceeding Rs 5 crore needs the committee's approval. On Friday, the meeting lasted for more than three hours. Leader of the opposition Ankush Narang questioned the reasons for not placing important proposals related to waste management despite an urgent requirement for their approval. Chairman Sharma assured that all steps would be taken to accelerate the operation of the committee and approve necessary projects on time. BJP's Inderjeet Sehrawat, a committee member, highlighted 160 shops that were sealed in 2018 on the direction of the Supreme Court-monitored committee. "Sealing was also carried out on Wednesday and Thursday on the orders issued by the deputy commissioner, Najafgarh zone. My only question is why only certain areas are targeted when building bylaws are violated rampantly in entire Delhi," he said, adding that the commissioner should speak to the home ministry, the lieutenant governor and the chief minister to resolve the matter as the decision has left several unemployed. Councillors also inquired about the release of funds for the maintenance of parks under the public-private partnership scheme to residents welfare associations. Commissioner Ashwani Kumar said the details of bills till March 31 were collected and Rs 20 crore would be released soon after the availability of funds. AAP councillor Rafia Mahir questioned the shortage of staff in the public health department, including anti-malaria officers in 12 zones. She also pointed out the non-payment of salaries in Hardayal Library for 36 months. "On the high court's direction, MCD issued Rs 4 crore out of Rs 12 crore, but the amount is less." The commissioner said funds would be allocated based on availability.

Delhi CM Gupta inaugurates new DTC depot in Narela; flags off 105 electric DEVI buses
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated a newly-constructed DTC bus depot at Sector A9, Narela, and flagged off over 100 new Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchange (DEVI) buses, marking a major milestone in Delhi's push toward sustainable public transport. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders, including BJP MP Yogender Chandoliya and Ministers Pankaj Kumar Singh and Ravinder Indraj Singh. The electric buses, designed to provide clean, efficient, and comfortable public transportation, are part of the city's larger initiative to combat pollution and improve last-mile connectivity under the DEVI initiative. Speaking at the event, Minister Singh underlined the environmental significance of the development. "Pollution has always been a major issue in Delhi, but this time you would have noticed there hasn't been any situation that led the NGT to impose any bans. This is a new step towards a pollution-free Delhi. To provide people with a pleasant travel experience, electric buses have been introduced," he said. Highlighting the growing importance of the Narela region, Chandoliya said, "Today, 105 electric DEVI buses are being flagged off from here. Many big government projects and universities are coming up here in Narela." Minister Singh praised the rapid development and quality of the new facility. "This terminal has been built in just 90 days and has been inaugurated with all modern amenities. For drivers, conductors, and the general public, RO drinking water and a large EV charging centre have been set up here," he said. The launch of the 105 electric buses from the Narela depot marks a significant leap in Delhi's efforts to reduce vehicular emissions while ensuring modern and accessible transport facilities for its residents. The newly-inaugurated bus terminal will serve as a critical node in the expanding electric public transit network of the national Capital and reduce traffic pollution in the years to come.

Delhi To Get Singapore-Style Bus Stops, Over 2800 Smart Shelters In The Works
Inspired by London, Singapore, and Bengaluru, Delhi plans over 2,800 sleek, commuter-friendly bus queue shelters Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Tuesday said new bus queue shelters will be set up in the city after a detailed study of the existing models in Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, as well as international cities like Singapore and London. During a review meeting, Singh directed officials to fast-track the transformation of the city's bus queue shelters (BQS) into modern and world-class facilities, officials said. The designs for these world-class BQS are being developed following a detailed study of existing models in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, as well as international cities such as Singapore, London, and those in China, the minister said, according to a statement. The capital city will soon witness the construction of some of the most modern and aesthetically advanced bus stops. These will be illuminated with LED lights and include digital display boards showing bus routes and numbers for easy commuter access, the statement said. Officials told the minister that a cost analysis and design studies of BQS structures from both Indian and international cities are being undertaken. The Transport Department has also recommended using stainless steel for the construction of the new shelters, it said. The best design will be chosen through an open competition. After that, the project will move ahead with finalising the design, constructing the shelters, and their operation and maintenance, the statement said. The department informed the minister that there are currently 4,627 notified BQS locations across Delhi, of which 2,021 are already operational. Singh said that to strengthen Delhi's public transport infrastructure, the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has prepared a plan to replace old and dilapidated bus stops with advanced and modern BQS in both urban and rural areas. The minister also emphasised that the department is working swiftly on bus route rationalisation to ensure optimal connectivity and commuter convenience.
