Oregon Predicted to Land Highly Touted Defensive Back, Former Florida Commit
Oregon Predicted to Land Highly Touted Defensive Back, Former Florida Commit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oregon Ducks have been busy on the recruiting trail, hoping to make the upcoming seasons as magical as this past season. Some weren't sure how the Ducks would fare their first year in the Big Ten, but it was clear early on the Ducks weren't phased. Advertisement They finished the regular season with an undefeated record and defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Championship game. The College Football Playoff committee awarded them the No. 1 overall seed and a first-round bye. Oregon predicted to land highly touted defensive back, former Gators commit The long layoff proved to do more harm than good, as the Ohio State Buckeyes went into Pasadena having defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round. The Buckeyes proved to be too much this time around, as the Ducks fell in the rematch. The Ducks' success continued into the NFL Draft, where they saw a program-record 10 players selected, surpassing the previous record of eight set the year before. Advertisement That bodes well for Ducks head coach Dan Lanning on the recruiting trail. Not only are you, as a recruit, likely to be on a winning team in Eugene, but there's also a good chance they turn pro. In a recent piece by national recruiting website On3's Steve Wiltfong, he predicts that the Ducks will land safety Devin Jackson, who had previously committed to the Florida Gators before decommitting in April. Jackson is a 6-foot-2, 195 lb safety from The First Academy in Orlando, Florida. According to Max Torres of Jackson is ranked No. 133 in the On300 rankings, the No. 14 safety and No. 19 ranked player in the state of Florida. On Saturday, Jackson announced that he would be choosing among the Ducks, LSU, Miami, Nebraska and Florida. The Ducks offered Jackson in January. Nebraska football recruit Devin Jackson to announce commitment on July 3
A four-star defensive back has set his commitment date. Devin Jackson will make the official announcement on Thursday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. CT in his hometown of Winter Garden, FL. Jackson will decide among five finalists: Nebraska, Florida, LSU, Miami, and Oregon. He initially committed to Florida in July 2024 before he decommitted in mid-April, becoming the second defensive back in the 2026 class to do so after position coach Will Harris left Florida to join Miami. Advertisement Jackson is listed as the No. 14-ranked safety and the No. 19-ranked prospect in the state of Florida according to the On3 recruiting ratings. Nebraska's class of 2026 holds nine commitments and is ranked No. 52 nationally and No. 18 in the Big Ten. The highest-ranked recruit in the class is cornerback Danny Odem out of Orlando, FL. Jackson would be the second defensive back and the second-highest-ranked recruit should he commit to the Huskers on July 3. Nebraska appears to be facing an uphill battle for the prospect as Oregon is viewed as the frontrunner, with his former team in Florida also still very much in the running. Blue-chip 2026 safety recruit Devin Jackson decommits from Florida football
Blue-chip 2026 safety recruit Devin Jackson decommits from Florida football The Florida Gators lost a member of their 2026 football recruiting class on Thursday with the departure of four-star safety Devin Jackson out of Orlando (Florida) First Academy, who decommitted and reopened his recruitment after the end of the spring practice season. The 6-foot-1.5-inch, 195-pound defensive back had been all-in on the Orange and Blue since 2023, when he was still playing for Winter Garden (Florida) West Orange, also located in the Orlando area. He has made frequent trips to Gainesville over the past couple of years and made his verbal commitment to the program last summer. Jackson had recently stood out at the Golden Ticket Tournament of OT7 (Overtime's 7-on-7 league) in Dallas, Texas, last Sunday before he made his decision to leave Gainesville. 'Devin Jackson was a guy this weekend—he was playing for 24k—and was playing corner primarily for them," offers On3 national recruiting analyst Cody Bellaire. "I know he's a safety prospect for the Gators and his film is at safety and I think that's what he projects to at the next level. But Devin was playing outside corner in this 7-on-7 setting for both days of work.' Bellaire continues, 'I was glad I got to see him move around and attack the football, play some coverage in both off and man coverage. All in all, pretty impressed with Devin Jackson this weekend. Very excited to dive back into the tape for our next 2026 update and see if I see a little bit more of that on the second go around.' It was not made immediately clear why Jackson chose to seek greener pastures, but it is hard to ignore his 7-on-7 performance as a contributing factor. Recruiting summary Jackson is rated at four stars and ranked No. 355 overall and No. 28 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking has him rated at three stars and ranked at Nos. 381 and 33, respectively. "Based on our conversation with Cody Bellaire, we believe Jackson will be strongly considered for a fourth star during this recruiting cycle if he continues to perform well," On3's Keith Niehbur notes. "He currently is the No. 36 safety in the country for On3 and carries an 88 rating. A player becomes a 4-star when their rating hits 90. Jackson is every bit of his listed 6-foot-2 and he continues to grow. The fact he played corner over the weekend in Texas speaks to his versatility."
