Tribal identity meets governance: Dharti Aaba outreach touches lives in Balod
Balod, Chhattisgarh: Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan has evolved beyond a government initiative to become a symbol of tribal pride and identity, said Lok Sabha MP Bhojraj Nag during a special outreach camp organised in the tribal village of Bhanwarmara in Chhattisgarh's Balod district. Speaking at the event, MP Bhojraj Nag emphasised the emotional and cultural significance of the campaign: 'Dharti Aaba is not just a scheme now. It is the voice of the tribal community and a reflection of their self-respect. It brings dignity and pride in the name of Birsa Munda, who remains an icon of tribal resistance and leadership.' The special camp was part of the Dharti Aaba Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan, which is being conducted from June 15 to July 15 across 186 tribal villages in Balod. It provided multiple services to villagers under one roof, including Ayushman health cards, Kisan Samman Nidhi, labour registration, forest rights pattas, Kisan Credit Cards, and basic healthcare. In a symbolic gesture, the MP also performed the Godbharai ceremony for pregnant women and distributed seeds to farmers, encouraging them to take advantage of the government's agricultural support programs. Divya Umesh Mishra, Collector of Balod, explained the comprehensive nature of the campaign: 'These camps are not just about service delivery; they represent the real spirit of public participation. We are ensuring that representatives and administrative officers come together to take government schemes directly to every village.' She further added: 'In addition to schemes like Ayushman and forest rights, we are providing health checkups, anaemia and sickle cell testing, Aadhaar and ration card services, pension enrolments, and more — all under one roof.' Sarpanch Nirmala Thakur of Bhanwarmara Gram Panchayat, who was also present at the event, expressed her appreciation for the initiative: 'This campaign is empowering our community. People are not only saving time and money, but also feeling more connected to the administration, with all services reaching us directly at the village level.' The camp was attended by people showing huge enthusiasm. Elected representatives and administrative staff, showcasing the collaborative effort behind this innovative outreach model, also attended the event. The success of the Dharti Aaba campaign is being seen as a replicable model of governance rooted in inclusivity and tribal empowerment.

More than 22,000 camps held in nine days to take DAJGUA to tribal villages
In the last nine days, the government has held more than 22,000 'Jan Seva' camps as part of its push to ensure saturation coverage of the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry's Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). The Centre said it had reached over 53 lakh Scheduled Tribes (ST) individuals, helping them avail the benefits of the schemes. The DAJGUA package was launched in 2023 and brings together about 25 interventions from 17 line Ministries for full scheme saturation under various government programmes to about 68,000 villages dominated by ST communities. As part of this, the government is currently undertaking an information, education, and communication (IEC) outreach to over 5.5 crore tribals in more than one lakh villages and habitations of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) across 550 districts of the country. The DAJGUA programme is a 'central feature' of the Indian Government's celebration of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh being commemorated to mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda. The IEC campaign under DAJGUA was launched on June 15 and will go on till July 15. In the nine days of the campaign so far, the government said that through the Jan Seva camps, it had been able to achieve 1.38 lakh Aadhaar enrolments, 1.68 lakh Ayushmaan Bharat card registrations, 46,000 PM Kisan registrations, the addition of 22,000 PM Ujjwala beneficiaries, and 32,000 new PM Jan Dhan accounts. The government's big push on this scheme has come with Governors, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and State Ministers taking the lead in launching and supporting the IEC campaign for the DAJGUA programme, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Ladakh, Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel in Madhya Pradesh, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam. In addition to the above-mentioned enrolments, the government has been helping people get other documents that may assist them in availing the benefits of government schemes. Some examples include helping people get caste certificates, domicile certificates, and Forest Rights Act pattas. 'DAJGUA provides legal aid, nutrition support, health check-ups, and the facilitation of Forest Rights Act (FRA) claims, while also onboarding tribal start-ups — making it a convergence-based model that exemplifies what proactive, inclusive governance can achieve,' the Centre said in a statement on Tuesday. 'This Abhiyan is a tribute to our tribal brothers and sisters who live in harmony with nature. It is not just an outreach programme — it is a revolution in inclusive governance,' the statement quoted Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram as saying.

Officials interact with villagers of Devalampeta ST Colony regarding DA-JGUA initiative
The Chittoor district administration conducted a gram sabha at the ST Colony of Devalampeta village in Jagamarla panchayat of Palamaner mandal, on Wednesday. They interacted with the villagers regarding the implementation of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA), a national-level initiative launched by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs on October 2, 2024. District Tribal Welfare and Empowerment officer S. Murthy, Groundwater Department deputy director Govardhan Reddy, along with senior officials of the Skill Development and Fisheries Department, took part in the programme. They highlighted the need for coordination among departments to ensure all government welfare schemes reach tribal areas promptly. Devalampeta ST Colony, with a total of 194 households, of which 110 are tribal, was chosen under the DA-JGUA initiative to ensure focused and sustainable rural development. The initiative aims at offering access to health, education, basic infrastructure, and livelihood opportunities for the tribal population. Mr. Murthy urged the departments of DRDA, Education, Health, Women and Child Welfare, Panchayat Raj, Rural Water Supply, Electricity, Agriculture, Telecom, and Employment to frequently conduct field visits and fix the problem areas. Meanwhile, the villagers brought to the notice of the officials key issues faced by them, such as lack of safe drinking water, absence of a drainage system, lack of anganwadis, Aadhaar cards, and inability to obtain bank loans for the purchase of cattle and sheep. In reply, the officials informed the residents that a detailed project report (DPR) for water and drainage works had been submitted to the district authorities, while a mini anganwadi centre had already been sanctioned.
