Thundershowers, downdraft wind expected across parts of Oman
Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a weather alert, highlighting the development of thundershowers and strong downdraft winds over several parts of the Sultanate. According to the latest forecast, weather conditions will remain unstable over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, adjacent areas in Al Wusta Governorate, and sections of Dhofar Governorate, beginning from 1:00 PM. Cumulonimbus clouds are actively forming over the Hajar range, bringing the likelihood of scattered rainfall, some of which may be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong downdraft winds. The strength of these weather systems is considered moderate but could still result in reduced visibility, particularly in areas affected by dust or fog. In southern Oman, the influence of the Khareef monsoon continues to dominate. Coastal areas of Dhofar and the adjacent mountain ranges are witnessing increased cloud cover with conditions favorable for light, intermittent drizzle. Simultaneously, clouds continue to flow over parts of both Al Wusta and Dhofar, maintaining a generally cloudy to overcast sky across those regions. Elsewhere in the Sultanate, the skies are expected to remain mostly clear. However, there is a chance of cloud formation over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, with occasional isolated showers that may be accompanied by thunderstorms. The forecast also includes the possibility of low clouds and fog patches forming late at night and into the early morning, especially along the coastal zones of both the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman. Sayyid Theyazin flags off 2nd Military Discipline Programme for school students
Muscat: HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, launched the second edition of the Military Discipline Programme for school students, set to take place in Dhofar Governorate from 13 July to 6 August. The programme, overseen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth with support from various military, security, and relevant government institutions, aims to achieve its intended objectives and national goals. In a statement, HH Sayyid Theyazin emphasized that the programme aligns with national efforts to hone youth skills and channel their energies toward nation-building. This year, he said, it targets 850 students from across the Sultanate of Oman through an integrated training programme in Dhofar, focusing on reinforcing values of citizenship, identity, and self-discipline via cultural, training, and sports activities. These initiatives, affirmed HH Sayyid Theyazin, reflect the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in empowering Omani youth as a national priority and enhancing their active role in development. He concluded, "The successes of the first edition—evident in the heightened awareness, discipline, and responsibility among students—serve as strong motivation to further develop this second edition into a model training programme. It aims to prepare a generation capable of facing future challenges and contributing to the progress of our beloved nation." The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that invest in youth potential and instill a spirit of dedication and belonging, supporting Oman's ongoing development and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

One arrested for running over citizen in Dhofar
Muscat: A citizen was arrested in a hit-and-run case for running over another citizen and leading to his death in Dhofar Governorate. The Royal Oman Police (ROP), said in a statement :"Dhofar Governorate Police Command arrested a citizen for running over another citizen with his vehicle and fleeing the scene, resulting in the victim's death. Legal proceedings are underway against him."

Water bill payments in Dhofar now available through Khedmah channels
