Simarjeet, Digvesh most expensive buys at Delhi Premier League auction
Pacer Simarjeet Singh, leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi and batter Nitish Rana were the three most expensive buys in Sunday's player auction for the second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). The 27-year-old Simarjeet, who has played for Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, was the most sought-after acquisition as Central Delhi Kings forked out ₹39 lakh for his services. The interest around Digvesh came as no surprise. The long-haired leggie had a splendid start to his IPL career with Lucknow Super Giants this year, scalping14 in 13 matches. South Delhi Superstars, which retained Ayush Badoni ahead of the auction, signed Digvesh for ₹38 lakh. Badoni and Digvesh are teammates at LSG too. Having recently returned to Delhi after playing for Uttar Pradesh for the past two domestic seasons, Nitish, 31, was signed by West Delhi Lions for ₹34 lakh. While Rishabh Pant was retained by Puraani Dilli 6 for ₹21 lakh, fast bowler Harshit Rana will continue to represent North Delhi Strikers. New franchise Outer Delhi Warriors picked Priyansh Arya ahead of the auction after he was released by South Delhi Superstars. New Delhi Tigers is the other new team this season. 'The decision to add two new franchises was to ensure that more players get an opportunity. What we realised last year is that there are a lot of players out there who go through the rigours of the various levels within the State,' Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley said. Virender Sehwag was in attendance at the start of Sunday's auction. Later in the day, his 17-year-old son Aaryavir was picked by Central Delhi Kings for ₹8 lakh. The auction for the women's event will be held on Monday.

IPL Star, Who Faced BCCI Suspension, Takes 5 Wickets In 5 Balls. LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Says, "Breakout Star..."
Digvesh Rathi was one of the finds of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The mystery spinner, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for just Rs 30 lakh, turned into one of their go-to bowlers, taking 14 wickets in 13 matches at a respectable economy rate of 8.25 in his debut season. While Rathi made several headlines with his controversial 'notebook' celebration, he has now gone viral for one of his on-field performances. Rathi had once taken five wickets in five consecutive balls in a local T20 match, the video of which has gone viral on the internet. Even LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka could not help but react. Rathi, playing in a local game in February 2025, left the opposition bamboozled with his trickery. Digvesh ran through the opposing batting order in one over, taking five wickets in a row - four bowled and one leg-before-wicket (LBW) - to finish with match figures of 7/28. The video was shared by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s official social media media handle, and here is what owner Goenka said: "Stumbled upon this clip of Digvesh Rathi taking 5 in 5 in a local T20 game. Just a glimpse of the talent that made him a breakout star for LSG in IPL 2025," Goenka posted on X. Stumbled upon this clip of Digvesh Rathi taking 5 in 5 in a local T20 game. Just a glimpse of the talent that made him a breakout star for @LucknowIPL in IPL 2025. — Dr. Sanjiv Goenka (@DrSanjivGoenka) June 16, 2025 Going by the post, it appears that Goenka was unaware about Digvesh having ever bowled such a spell, despite it happening before IPL 2025. Given that the spell took place in February 2025, it would be well after Digvesh had already been purchased by LSG at the mega auction. Digvesh shot to fame in IPL 2025 for both his excellent bowling as well as his fiery 'notebook' celebration. Digvesh's explosive celebration was first seen when he dismissed uncapped Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Priyansh Arya in LSG's third match of the season. Digvesh was handed a number of fines by the BCCI during IPL 2025 for his celebration. Later in the season, a verbal spat between Digvesh and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Abhishek Sharma saw him accumulate five demerit points, resulting in a one-match ban. "This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier - One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025. As he now has Five Demerit Points this season - which result in a one-game suspension - Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG's next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad," the statement from IPL read.

Watch: Digvesh Rathi Teases Virat Kohli While Bowling, Leaves RCB Star In Splits
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's big victory over Lucknow Super Giants will definitely go down as the one of the most memorable moment of IPL 2025. Asked to bat first, LSG posted a huge total of 227/3 in 20 overs with skipper Rishabh Pant smashing 118* off 61 balls. Later, RCB stole the momentum as their stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma played an unbeaten knock of 85 off 33 balls and took his side across the line with six wickets and eight balls in hand. During RCB's run chase, a hilarious moment took place when the star batter Virat Kohli faced the controversial LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi. In the 11th over, Digvesh, who is famous for his viral notebook style celebration after taking a wicket, said something to Kohli before delivering the ball. Digvesh's words were muted but they left Kohli in splits as the RCB veteran laughed and the game continued. Flashbacks @imVkohli — Daksh. (@DakshVkf) May 28, 2025 Notably, Digvesh was fined several times by the BCCI for his controversial celebration. After repeated warnings, a stern action action was taken against him and he was banned from LSG's previous game against Gujarat Titans. During the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Digvesh indulged in a heated argument with batter Abhishek Sharma, following which, the banned was imposed on him. Jitesh Sharma conjured up a rollicking unbeaten 85 to propel Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to an unprecedented feat that no team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has accomplished before. Playing their last league match of IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, RCB orchestrated a compelling six-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants. After completing a 228-run target heist with eight balls to spare, the touring party gunned down their highest successful chase and the third-highest total in IPL history. After finishing second in the group standings, Bengaluru has booked a date with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat will square off against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday. 'MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli Not Banned...': Virender Sehwag's 'Harsh' Verdict On Controversial LSG Star
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has enjoyed a breakthrough season in IPL 2025. However, despite his good performances, Digvesh has also gotten into trouble on multiple occasions, largely due to his explosive celebrations. Digvesh has received warnings due to his signature 'notebook' celebration, and was even banned for one match after he had given a send-off to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma. However, legendary former India opener Virender Sehwag has stated that the sanctions on Digvesh have been harsh, and pointed out that players like Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni have never received a harsh punishment for their behaviour. "I thought that the ban was a bit harsh. The boy is playing in his first year in the IPL. MS Dhoni had barged into the ground, he was not banned then. Virat Kohli has spoken to umpires in that tone, who knows how many times, he was also not banned. So, Digvesh Rathi could have been spared, because he is a young player, just coming into the scene, could have let that one go," Sehwag said, speaking on Cricbuzz. Digvesh made headlines again on Tuesday as he appealed after running out Jitesh Sharma at the non-striker's end for backing up. The appeal was later withdrawn by LSG captain Rishabh Pant. Digvesh's demeanour raised a question on the 'spirit of cricket'. Though the umpire deemed Jitesh not-out, even as LSG captain Rishabh Pant decided to withdraw the appeal, the entire episode triggered yet another 'spirit of cricket' debate over the nature of the attempted dismissal. Pant was lauded by many for 'uplifting' the 'spirit of cricket' as he decided to withdraw the appeal following Digvesh's attempt to dismiss Jitesh. Famous Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed his disappointment over the 'sprit of cricket' debate being triggered over the incident. "I have no problem with the umpire turning down the appeal if he thinks the non-striker was inside the crease when the bowler's arm had crossed the point where he is expected to release the ball. I am disappointed when the spirit of the game is invoked. You play by the laws," Harsha posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Watch: RCB Fans Mock LSG Star After Controversial Notebook Celebration Backfires
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans mocked Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi following their IPL 2025 match on Tuesday. RCB beat LSG in Lucknow, in what was the final league game of the season, to secure their place in Qualifier 1. In the 17th over, Digvesh stirred a huge controversy after he decided to run RCB's Jitesh Sharma out at the non-striker's for backing up too far. The bails lit up before Jitesh's bat crossed the crease, but he remained not out after Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant withdrew the appeal. Even if Pant had not taken back the appeal, Jitesh would've been not out as Digvesh landing foot has crossed the poppin crease before he could dislodge the bails. During the same over, Digvesh had dismissed Jitesh on the very first ball, before hitting his controversial signature celebration. However, Jitesh was deemed not out as Digvesh was penalised for overstepping, resulting in a free hit which Jitesh deposited into the stands over midwicket. After the match, RCB fans mocked Digvesh by imitating his celebration outside the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Digvesh Rathi — Virat Kohli Fan Club (@Trend_VKohli) May 28, 2025 Jitesh made the most of the opportunity and struck a hat-trick of sixes to bring Bengaluru closer to the top two spots. Jitesh finished the chase in style with a six after completing a record-breaking chase. With their heads held high, Jitesh and Mayank returned unbeaten with scores of 85(33) and 41(23), respectively. RCB's astonishing six-wicket win, coming on the back of fifties from Virat Kohli and stand-in captain Jitesh, meant that their dream of winning a first-ever IPL title is still on after finishing at second place in the points table with 19 points, with Punjab Kings being table-toppers due to superior net run rate. The winner of Qualifier 1 will directly enter the title clash, to be held on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the losing team will take on the eliminator-winning team at the same venue on June 1. RCB have just a day's break to prepare for Qualifier 1 as their win over LSG happened on Tuesday night.
