Rathi, playing in a local game in February 2025, left the opposition bamboozled with his trickery. Digvesh ran through the opposing batting order in one over, taking five wickets in a row - four bowled and one leg-before-wicket (LBW) - to finish with match figures of 7/28.
The video was shared by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s official social media media handle, and here is what owner Goenka said:

Going by the post, it appears that Goenka was unaware about Digvesh having ever bowled such a spell, despite it happening before IPL 2025. Given that the spell took place in February 2025, it would be well after Digvesh had already been purchased by LSG at the mega auction.
Digvesh shot to fame in IPL 2025 for both his excellent bowling as well as his fiery 'notebook' celebration. Digvesh's explosive celebration was first seen when he dismissed uncapped Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Priyansh Arya in LSG's third match of the season.
Digvesh was handed a number of fines by the BCCI during IPL 2025 for his celebration. Later in the season, a verbal spat between Digvesh and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Abhishek Sharma saw him accumulate five demerit points, resulting in a one-match ban.
"This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier - One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025. As he now has Five Demerit Points this season - which result in a one-game suspension - Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG's next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad," the statement from IPL read.

For many cricket lovers in Bengaluru and Karnataka, the one lingering disappointment was the persisting failure of Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy. Virat Kohli may have been king across the world but in the IPL he was not, until a dramatic change of fortunes at the very end of his career. The cup win in 2025 was to be the crowning glory of Kohli, RCB, and, eventually, Bengaluru itself. But tragically enough, the stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory celebrations on June 4 upended that glory. In its probe of the stampede that killed 11 and left 71 injured, the John Michael D'Cunha Commission has come down severely on the RCB management and the police. It has pinpointed the cause as 'not regulating the entry into the gates and making reckless announcements with regard to the entry into the stadium'. It has named many and recommended legal action against them while discussing how such gatherings can be made safer and the medical backups that may be required. But its terms of inquiry were limited and missed the bigger picture. Blame must be apportioned to all stakeholders who just did not think of the consequences of calling for such a large gathering and going ahead with it without the permissions and arrangements. The police must be faulted for not beefing up the arrangements at the stadium's entry and exit points. But it may not be fair to blame them for allowing the event — it had practically become a fait accompli as the administration was going along with the celebrations and the euphoria. The stadium event was among the three planned that day. As if to kick off the celebrations, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah felicitated the team in an open-air event outside the Vidhana Soudha in the morning. These celebrations set the tone for what unfolded that day. To their credit, the police did refuse to allow the planned victory parade on an open bus. And at the Vidhana Soudha, where only a few among the lakhs who had gathered got to see their favourite stars, an announcement was made that people could proceed to the stadium which has a seating capacity of just 32,000. In a broader sense though, the stampede was a reflection of the realities of urban life too, where massive flash crowds can generate from communities sharing a common passion and kindled by social media. Urban planners and managers have little clue on how to handle such mobilisations, which have resulted in stampedes at religious, social and cultural events, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives.

Open nat'l chess championship starts Aug 2
Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Chess Sports Association is set to host an open national chess championship at KDMA School from August 2. Following the annual general meeting of UP Chess Association, Kartik Kapoor, president, informed media persons that in addition to the championship, a Grand Master chess tournament would also be organised—the date and venue for which will be announced soon. The initial plan is to conduct it in Kanpur, with the expected prize money around Rs 50 lakh. AK Raizada, general secretary of the association, stated that the association has successfully managed to include chess in the sports calendar for intermediate and junior high schools in the state. There will be efforts to train at least one teacher from each school that opts for the chess game to guide students in the 64 square game. To facilitate this, the association plans to employ online, offline, and digital platforms for teacher training, and will provide certificates to those who pass. Raizada highlighted that the UP State Chess Association now has 52 affiliated district units, with Hapur district as its newest member. Two more districts--Amroha and Shamli--have applied for affiliation, which the association is currently considering. Regarding the Grand Master tournament, Raizada said that if players from at least three other countries participate, the tournament will qualify as a GM norm tournament. He expects participation from players representing 10-15 countries. Dilip Srivastava, secretary of Kanpur Chess Association, and Harish Rastogi informed that to attain the Grand Master title, a player must participate in three GM norm tournaments. In the first two, at least 6.5 points must be earned, and in the third, the player's elo rating must reach 2500 and the tournament must be won. During the AGM, Raizada stated the members discussed a 30-point agenda in detail.
