Kaizer Chiefs news: Chiefs plan coaching boost, eye ex-player return

Kaizer Chiefs have started making big moves ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season. The club is reportedly close to finalizing the return of former head coach Dillon Sheppard to their senior technical staff. This plan would see Sheppard take on a hybrid coaching role, splitting his time between the first team and the Development and Discovery Centre (DDC). An insider revealed, 'Sheppard has always been a passionate part of Chiefs. His return will bring stability and fresh ideas both on the training ground and at the academy.' The arrangement would allow Sheppard to support local players — both young and experienced — while also continuing his work with the DDC, especially since current coach Vela Khumalo will be involved with the Under-17 national team preparing for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in September. This dual role could be critical in shaping Chiefs' future talent pipeline. In addition to the coaching changes, Chiefs have also shown interest in bringing back midfielder Lebohang Lesako. 'Scouts and recruiters have been following his progress closely. They know him well, and are happy with his growth both as a player and as a person,' the insider added. Lesako's potential return to Naturena is seen as a move to add experience and creativity to the squad, bolstering depth in midfield. Chiefs have already signed six new players this transfer window, but with at least five more players heading out, the club is clearly intent on reshaping the squad. These off-field moves could prove crucial as the team looks to challenge strongly next season. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp message to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs: Ex-coach set to return to Naturena!

Kaizer Chiefs are planning on bringing make a very familiar face to Naturena. Kaizer Chiefs continue to undergo major changes to their team. However, it is not just the playing squad that will be changing. Amakhosi are planning on bringing back a well-known former coach to assist the first team. Chiefs are planning on bringing ex-coach, Dillon Sheppard back to the help out the first team. 'That's the plan. The club is believed to have spoken to the senior technical team about his addition and apparently all parties agreed that it's a good idea, mainly in assisting with the local players whether young or experienced stars. So that's the position right now,' the insider stated on SNL . Furthermore, he could take up a hybrid coaching role at Chiefs next season. 'The arrangement is that he would be with the senior team during the week, and when, and if the DDC is playing, then he will be with them. You know most of the time coach Vela Khumalo is with the Under-17 national team and in September they are going to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup so coach Sheppard will still be coaching there (in the DDC) as well. Apparently that's the arrangement as things stand,' he added on the same publication. Chiefs look set to part ways with Yusuf Maart. Meaning, Nabi and Amakhosi management must appoint a new captain. These are the Chiefs players favoured to lead the Soweto giants next season. Meanwhile, Chiefs have been spotted with several new faces. SIX of them have already been unveiled – Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane and Siphesihle Ndlovu. Furthermore, Etiosa Ighodaro (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Asanele Velabayi are both a part of the Chiefs quad that travelled to the Netherlands.
