Balrampur hosp expands dialysis unit, reduces wait time

Lucknow: UP's largest govt dialysis unit at Balrampur Hospital was further expanded with the addition of five new machines, taking the total number of machines at the facility to 28. This is expected to reduce the patient wait time for dialysis from 12-15 days to around 5 days, offering major relief to those suffering from chronic kidney ailments. Of the 28 machines, 15 are operated directly by the hospital, and 13 are functional under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. With this increased capacity, the hospital can now cater to around 40-45 patients daily. Balrampur Hospital is the only govt facility in the district offering dialysis services. Due to a heavy patient load and frequent referrals from other institutions, the hospital was under considerable pressure. Earlier, only 5 of the 7 hospital-run machines were working, limiting daily sessions to 10-12 and forcing many patients to return untreated. The upgrade was made possible after the hospital received five machines from the National Health Mission (NHM) in March, and five more were donated by a private organisation this week, said hospital director Dr Dinesh Kumar.

Bangalore-Hosur flyover lateral shift: What led to the crisis? Collector flags Bengaluru's common problem; Alternate routes shared for travellers

In a major safety concern, the elevated expressway at Hosur, which connects Bengaluru and Chennai, has been closed after a dangerous sideways shift in its structure was discovered. The road was shut on Saturday night, causing massive traffic jams stretching up to 3 km near the Hosur bus stand. What caused the damage? District Collector C Dinesh Kumar inspected the flyover on Sunday and said the damage happened due to heavy traffic pressure on the bridge. The problem lies in the damaged bearings, parts that connect and support the structure. According to TOI, he said, 'The damaged bearings will be replaced promptly. After that, the flyover will be monitored for 48 hours. Only light vehicles will be allowed on it if there is no further damage.' How is traffic being managed? With the expressway closed, all vehicles going towards Bengaluru have been stopped. Officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) are working on alternative routes to manage the flow. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Here's how vehicles are being diverted: From Salem to Bengaluru: Rerouted via Dharmapuri, Palacode, Rayakottai and then through the Hosur ring road. The collector also mentioned that barriers have been installed and traffic will move in a one-way pattern to ensure safety. Live Events Why this flyover matters Opened in 2010, the Hosur elevated road carries nearly 50,000 vehicles every day. It's a key link between Chennai and Bengaluru, especially important for those commuting to Electronics City, one of Bengaluru's major IT hubs. The flyover was built to ease traffic pressure on this busy corridor. Authorities are now working urgently to fix the issue and avoid further risks. Inputs from TOI

KRISHNAGIRI: Police on Thursday registered an FIR at two stations in Rayakottai and Denkanikottai following the report about underage mothers using tampered Aadhaar cards to show a higher age for evading child marriage arrest. TNIE on Wednesday carried an article titled 'Bride and prejudice: Aadhaar fudged to mask child marriages in Krishnagiri', wherein it was reported how the date of birth in Aadhaar cards of six child brides was allegedly changed by their relatives to evade arrest in child marriage cases in the past six months in Kelamangalam block. Following it up, Krishnagiri Collector C Dinesh Kumar asked health department officials to lodge a complaint against the culprits. Consequently, on Thursday, Kelamangalam Block Medical Officer, Dr C Rajesh Kumar, lodged a complaint at Rayakottai police station and Denkanikottai police station. Based on the complaint, both station police filed an FIR under Section 337 of BNS (forgery of record of court or of public register, etc.) As part of the probe, Rayakottai police also questioned a 35-year-old man of a photo studio at Rayakottai suspecting his involvement in the issue. However, he was let off due to lack of evidence. Police are also planning to question the child bride families as part of the inquiry.
