Selena Gomez Returning for "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place" Season 2

Yara Sameh Selena Gomez is set to reprise the role of Alex Russo in Season 2 of 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.' Gomez posted Friday about her return to the spinoff in an Instagram story, writing, 'Just feels right…' over a photo featuring her sitting on the iconic set holding a wand. The star executive produces the series, which is a spinoff of 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' the Disney Channel sitcom that ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2012 and launched Gomez's career. 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' premiered in October of last year, with Gomez appearing in two of the first season's 21 episodes. In the original series, Gomez's Alex Russo was a young wizard who trained in magic alongside her two brothers with the knowledge that only one of them would be able to keep their powers once they reached adulthood. Alex won the competition. In the spinoff, Alex reaches out to her brother Justin (David Henrie) and asks if teenage wizard Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) can move in with him and his family to train in magic. A synopsis for Season 2 of 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' reads, 'Billie grapples with the fact that being part of the Russo family might be more complicated than she thought — especially now that she's not the only wizard in the house. Thanks to Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo's (Max Matenko) new magical powers, Justin is now tasked with training three young wizards for the Family Wizard Competition. As the stakes rise inside and outside the family, a mysterious new threat emerges — one that could unravel the Russos forever.' Besides Gomez, executive producers of 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' include Henrie; writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas; Gary Marsh; and Jonas Agin. The series was created by Todd Greenwald. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Miley Cyrus blamed for dad Billy Ray's smoking habit on 'Hannah Montana' set

Photo: TNS Miley Cyrus says she caught some flack for her dad's pot habit on the set of the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana . The Grammy winner, 32, shed some light on her child star days while appearing on Thursday's (June 19) episode of Sorry We're Cyrus , the podcast hosted by her mum, Tish, and big sister Brandi. Asked about an amusing 'core memory' from making the teen sitcom co-starring her father, Miley said: 'Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it.' Tish said she remembered the drama, noting that once everyone realised it was actually Billy Ray toking on the set, people on the show kept calling her to say 'B-Ray was smoking pot.' She said she refused to believe it at the time, and tried blaming Miley's co-star Mitchel Musso instead. 'It was Mitchel Musso! It was both,' Miley replied with a laugh. During the episode, the famous family also addressed when Tish 'mysteriously' – as Miley teased – unfollowed her on Instagram last month, prompting speculation about the state of their relationship. Miley at the time dismissed the rumour mill, saying that though she 'rarely' bothers weighing in on the grapevine, her mum is her 'best friend' and the two 'are too tight for anything to ever come between us.' Much like Tish responded to one of her own followers, Cyrus said the move was a 'simple, coincidental and uninteresting' mistake, despite occurring just hours after Billy Ray broadcast how excited he was to see his daughter. They had their own dust-up in July 2024, when he apparently called Miley and Tish 'skanks' in texts and audio obtained by multiple outlets. About a year prior, Tish and youngest daughter Noah – who reportedly had a relationship with her new stepdad Dominic Purcell, before he wed her mum – put their own reported feud to bed. – New York Daily News

Dua Lipa review: Pop superstar delights Aviva, Dublin with moving tribute to Sinéad O'Connor

We are firmly in the era of strong women dominating pop as female alpha Dua Lipa further proved on Friday night in Dublin. Almost a year to the day since Taylor Swift brought her juggernaut billion-dollar Eras Tour to Ireland, Lipa brought her own flavour of girl pop back to the same venue, with breakout artist Alessi Rose and Disney Channel star-turned-singer Dove Cameron warming up the crowd before the main event began at 8.40pm. The latest stop on the Radical Optimism tour, and her last European date, saw the English and Albanian singer thrill a predominantly young audience, belting out hit after hit to devoted fans. Filling the stands and standing together were groups of girlfriends, mothers and daughters, sisters and sisterhoods — with a few sprinkling of boys and men throughout too for good measure. Gig was like a homecoming The streets around the Aviva felt like a homecoming, a continuation of last year's epic experience of girlhood on the same weekend for gig-goers. Pubs overflowed with pals toasting their drinks, friends shared takeaways pizzas, and sequins sparkled in the sun as fans found their way to their seats. If you think you don't know a Dua Lipa song, you're wrong. Opening with Training Season, upping the ante with One Kiss and Physical, and bring it back to the Barbie movie with Dance The Night before wrapping up on Houdini, the global superstar's catalogue of hits is as impressive as her showmanship. She arrived through a mist of smoke wearing a sparkly bodysuit with matching heeled boots and threw herself into each piece of slick choreography, never missing a beat. 'This is unreal. Dublin, you ready to go to the moon?' she asked to deafening cheers. She posed for selfies with fans at the barricade, asking their names, celebrating birthdays, and sharing hugs. One tearful fan told her he saw her Future Nostalgia tour in Dublin and it inspired him to become a dancer. Local flavour on each tour date The usual setlist features a surprise song section. Traditionally Lipa uses this slot to pay tribute to each city she plays in ( 360 by — and with — Charli XCX was her nod to London, for example, while fans in Liverpool enjoyed covers of Hey Jude by The Beatles and Valerie by The Zutons). The question on everybody's lips en route to the show was all about this section, if there would be a surprise guest, and who it could be. Having brought Charli XCX and Jamiroquai out on stage for her Wembley gigs, rumours were swirling ahead of her Dublin appearance. Dermot Kennedy? Niall Horan? Jedward? As it happened, it was better than we expected. She performed a tribute to iconic Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor, who she described as an Irish legend. A touching rendition of the late star's anthem Nothing Compares 2 U was a poignant moment in the night as torchlights illuminated the night, a perfect touch for her Dublin date. 'Every night on this tour I sing a different song by a local artist,' she told the crowd. Tonight I am honoured to perform a song by a late Irish legend, Sinéad O'Connor. If you know the words, please sing along. And sing they did, in memory of a local legend lost too soon. • Lana Del Ray plays the Aviva Stadium on Monday night, continuing a trend of strong female headliners that other venues could learn from. Pop is popping off and we want more opportunities to dance the night away.

Olivia Rodrigo sends fans wild as she brings out Ed Sheeran at huge sold out BST gig ahead of Glastonbury slot

OLIVIA Rodrigo sent her fans wild tonight when she surprised them by bringing out Ed Sheeran at her sold out BST gig in Hyde Park. Just two days before she closes Glastonbury Festival, Olivia proved why she's one of the best pop stars on the planet with a set jam-packed with catchy, angsty anthems. 5 5 5 And superstar Ed's cameo was the icing on the cake of a glorious sunny day in the capital. Drivers License singer Olivia, 22, dressed to impress for her huge headline show, kicking off in a black sequined leotard. Ahead of the performance, she was able to unwind in her own private sanctuary with organisers adapting the backstage area with wildflower planters. And it was much needed as Olivia used up every ounce of energy in a lively set split into three parts. It was in the final part that Ed came out for a rendition of his early hit The A Team, having watched the show from the side of the stage. Olivia introduced him as "one of the best songwriters of all time". There were famous faces in the crowd including James Corden, who stood beside Olivia's boyfriend Louis Partridge, and Sabrina Carpenter, who will perform on the same stage next week. Ed's no stranger to guest appearances, having stepped on stage with everyone from Limp Bizkit to Stormzy and Taylor Swift. And his acoustic anthem lent itself perfectly to California girl Olivia's meteoric rise to fame has taken her from Disney Channel starlet to 46million monthly listeners on Spotify, 14 Grammy nominations and collaborations with David Byrne and Lily Allen. Olivia Rodrigo praised for her 'iconic' FireAid performance - but fans all have the same complaint In 2016, Olivia was cast in Disney's Bizaardvark and three years later she starred in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a mockumentary that sees a bunch of teens putting on a stage production of the hit. Between High School Musical takes, the young actress worked away on her guitar, writing more music, until eventually Disney bosses invited her to create an original song for her character to sing in the show. The piano ballad that emerged — All I Want — went viral, and she was soon in line for a record deal. But unlike others who went from Disney favourite to superstar, such as Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, Olivia shunned the in-house label and decided to do things her own way. Everything changed overnight in January 2021 when Olivia released her debut single Drivers License in the middle of winter lockdown. It became the first song on Spotify to hit 80million streams in just seven days. The tune also shot straight to No1 on charts globally and propelled her into what she called a 'crash course in adulthood'. 'That was the craziest time of my life,' she said back then. 'I was sitting in a grocery store parking lot, and I called my A&R guy. 'It had just gone No 1 on Apple music, which is hard for a pop act to do. 'We were looking at each other on FaceTime, speechless. 'That was the moment I knew that it was going to be something bigger than I expected.' Her second single, Deja Vu, was certified four times platinum in the States, then May 2021 saw the release of her debut album Sour, with pop-punk hit Good 4 U going six times platinum in the US. She earned rave reviews from critics, while artists including Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne heaped praise upon her. Her first live performance in the UK was at the Brit awards in 2021, while her festival debut here was at Glastonbury the following year. In just a few short years, she's now at the very top of the pile, holding her own beside fellow headliners The 1975 and Neil Young. 5 5
