Champions Day seen as an ‘obvious' target for Docklands
Harry Eustace's five-year-old is owned by the Australian outfit OTI Racing, and was campaigned internationally over the winter before returning to Newmarket. His early campaign revolved around Ascot, a track he clearly favours and shone at again with a tough Group One victory over Rosallion. The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is therefore the late-season target over the same course and distance, with a European campaign the likely focus in the meantime. Harry Eustace celebrates after winning the Queen Anne Stakes with Docklands (David Davies/PA) 'The obvious thing to do would be to work backwards from Champions Day at Ascot, there's also the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Sussex Stakes,' said Eustace. 'He takes his racing well, he ran 10 days before Ascot at Epsom so I don't necessarily want or need to space his racing out a lot. 'He put in a huge performance at Ascot, but he's a five-year-old and if there was ever a year where we can campaign him more aggressively then this is it. 'We were waiting to see how Ascot panned out before we began plotting where'd he go next, but the one thing we know he won't do is go to Australia.' Time For Sandals winning the Commonwealth Cup under Richard Kingscote (John Walton/PA) Eustace had two Group One winners across Royal Ascot, the second being Time For Sandals after her 25-1 strike in the Commonwealth Cup. She has a host of top level sprints on her radar, though connections anticipate next year will be a busier campaign as she started her season this time relatively early. 'She's great and seems to have come out of it really well,' he said of the filly. 'We hadn't really thought past Ascot with her because we were pitching her in a Group One and we knew it'd tell us how to campaign her for the rest of season. 'Now she's a Group One winner, she's got to run in Group One races so races like the Flying Five, the Nunthorpe and the Haydock Sprint Cup are all obvious targets. 'She was up and running early enough for the Fred Darling so I don't think we'll be campaigning her aggressively this year. 'We'll very much look at the older sprint programme next year, it sort of writes itself.'

Huge UK lido set to open in days for anyone near major river but there's a catch
A free-to-use outdoor swimming pool is slated to open up in the heart of East London, along with a whole host of summer activities. However, the lido will only run for a select period of time A free outdoor swimming pool is slated to open in the Big Smoke this summer, but there's one big catch Brits need to be aware of. With temperatures predicted to rise to a sweltering 38C this month across parts of the UK, the idea of cooling off in the water has never been so appealing. Luckily, the Royal Victoria Dock in east London is opening an al-fresco water space, dubbed Summer Splash. The unheated pool, which will be made from floating platforms, is completely free to use, and is set to open to the public next week, on Friday, July 25. However, the lido will not be a permanent feature - and will close down on Sunday, August 17. "It's the perfect place to cool off and relax, providing an urban retreat like no other," hails Royal Docks' official website. "Lounge in a deckchair, take a dip and soak up views of the Royal Docks' vast open waters, framed by the City's iconic skyline. "The summer also provides a wider offer for water sports and wellness fans. [You] can dive into the action with wakeboarding and paddleboarding atWakeUp Docklands, waterside relaxation at Sweheat sauna, or the thrill of open water swimming at either the Royal Docks Swim Series in June or Dock2Dock in August, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year." The lido, which will be manned by lifeguards, features a shallow section for children. There will also be a sandy play area, as well as deckchairs and a range of 'exciting activities' for kids. "The Royal Docks is one of London's best-kept secrets, a vibrant hotspot for creativity and culture, so I'm delighted to see the return of the At the Docks season," Justine Simons, the deputy mayor for culture and the creative industries, said. "There is so much for young people and families to enjoy, from fun activities to open-air performances and festivals, as we continue to build a better London for everyone." If you're heading into London to enjoy the free lido, Summer Splash is located just a short walk away from Royal Victoria DLR station. It is also close to the Emirates Cable Car on the embankment of Royal Victoria Dock next to The Crystal. You can plan your journey using TfL's route planner here. Brits are being encouraged to make the most of the lido while they can, as - in classic British fashion - downpours of rain are expected to brutally disrupt the UK's ongoing heatwave. Shock wins rock Royal Ascot G1's
ASCOT Cercene and Time For Sandals brought smiles to the faces of bookmakers on the fourth day of Royal Ascot on June 20, springing huge shocks in the two Group 1 races. Cercene was at 33-1 ($160 on the Singapore tote) the longest price winner ever in the £725,750 (S$1.26 million) Coronation Stakes (1,600m). The Australian-owned filly by Australia fought back under Gary Carroll to beat French favourite Zarigana (Mickael Barzalona). The win gave Irish trainer Joe Murphy, who had only had one previous runner at the meeting, his first Group 1 hurrah and easily his most prestigious win, and it comes on arguably the biggest stage. "This is 50 years of work, that's what it is, of love and care, and all for the owners we have, all our people, it's just a whole group of people together," said Murphy, 70, who has been training since 1977. "This is heaven on Earth." For Carroll, it was his third Royal Ascot winner but also his first ever Group 1 winner anywhere, and due reward for flying back to Berkshire after riding in Ireland on Thursday. "Hugely good horses are very hard to come by and sometimes only one comes along in a lifetime and I guess mine has," he said. Harry Eustace has got a real taste now for Group 1 races at Royal Ascot. After breaking his duck with Docklands in the opener - the Queen Anne Stakes (1,600m) on Tuesday - he added a second in the £725,750 Commonwealth Cup (1,200m) with Time For Sandals, a shock 25-1 winner ($144). Before her stunning win, Time For Sandals, a filly by Sands Of Mali, had one debut win at Kempton and four placings in five starts. "I don't know, it has not landed yet," said Eustace. "You have to be very careful with Ascot. If you get your hopes up, it can bite you back." For his father James, who Harry took over from, it was "magic". "It is so wonderful," said Eustace senior, who also enjoyed success at Royal Ascot, and whose younger son David is having a great start to his Hong Kong training career. "We tried to get Harry to go to university, we succeeded initially and he went to Edinburgh. "He had two good years and a lot of fun before he dropped out and then took off for Australia and the racing bug bit." For jockey Richard Kingscote, it was a seventh Royal Ascot winner, but first at Group 1 level, ending a run of 67 defeats at the meeting. "I've had some nice horses but this will do the world of good," he said. "I'm delighted to ride a good winner for Harry, he's a gentleman, it's a happy yard." Godolphin's Charlie Appleby was looking to end his three-year losing run, but hot favourite Shadow of Light never featured. AFP
