Sanjay Kapur had created a '10-year-plan' before his death, wanted family to ‘love each other' even after his passing
Businessman Sunjay Kapur, who died in a freak accident some days ago, had recently said that he'd put together a 10-year-plan for his future. He had also spoken about the principles that he wants his four children to live with even after he's gone. Sunjay was married to actor Karisma Kapoor, with whom he has two children, daughter Samara and son Kiaan. In an interview conducted only three months before his death, he'd spoken about having a 'blended family', and his desire for every member to love each other after he's no longer around. Appearing on the Indian Silicon Valley podcast recently, Kapur was asked what values he lives his life by. He said, 'For me, trust and respect is extremely important. It's important that a family comes together and stays together. Another thing that my wife and I do is a coaching session on parenting. We want to become better parents. We're also doing a coaching session on the Bhagavad Gita, we do that once a week. I want my kids and my family to have certain values that will revolve around trust, around respect, around unity, around staying together. It's extremely important.' Also read – Priya Sachdev admitted Sunjay Kapur-Karisma Kapoor's marriage was 'not conventional', opened up on bond with Samaira, Kiaan: 'I can't be their mom…' He continued, 'It's important that we build a unit. We come from a blended family, so it's not always easy. But we've been very fortunate to have a system where we all work together, where we love each other. And I want that to continue even after my wife and I's lifetime.' Asked about how he intends to live his life after stepping away from an active executive role in his company, he said, 'I'm great planner. In October, I wrote down a 1o-year plan for myself; not goals, but things I will focus on. Whether it's work engagements or non-work engagements. There are a lot of non-work commitments that I have. I'm very clear about what I will do and what I will not do. Sport is very important to me, health and fitness is very important to me. I play active polo, I run a team. I play as often as I can. However, what's also important to me is that I give back to my family. When I drew up my 10-year plan, I actually wrote down the broad strokes of work-related and non-work related, foundation-related… I flushed out 2025 to define what I will do. I'm not the sort of person who can sit around without a packed schedule. It's a great luxury to be the master of your own time.' Kapur was a part of the board for his family business, Sona Comstar, which is valued at around Rs 40,000 crore. He was also a part of the Doon School's board, and was an active polo player. He died on June 13 after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo game in England, and going into cardiac arrest. His body was repatriated to India, and his funeral was conducted in New Delhi. Karisma Kapoor was in attendance, along with their two children, her sister Kareena Kapoor, and Kareena's husband, Saif Ali Khan. Sunjay is survived by his wife, Priya Sachdev, and his four children.
