Who is the next James Bond? Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson in top wishlist

According to Variety, the studio and the producers seem interested in bringing onboard a British actor under 30. The names of Hollywood A-listers Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson are said to be on the top of the list. With filmmaker Denis Villeneuve onboard for the 26th James Bond film, eyes are now set for who will be the new 007. While fans have strong opinions about who should continue the legacy after Daniel Craig 's successful five-film streak, a new report has shed light on Amazon's wishlist. According to Variety, the studio and the producers seem interested in bringing onboard a British actor under 30. The names of Hollywood A-listers Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland , and Harris Dickinson are said to be on the top of the list. It further added that while Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 35, Henry Cavill, 42, and Idris Elba , 52, were considered as possible heirs to Craig, their ages are unlikely to fit the requirement. With Villeneuve tapped to direct the upcoming James Bond film, the search for the titular star has heated up. Speaking about the project, the director earlier said, "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since 'Dr. No' with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour," as quoted by Variety. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Amazon MGM Studios head Mike Hopkins asserted that the film has landed in the hands of one of "today's greatest filmmakers." With Villeneuve currently busy with 'Dune: Messiah,' it is unlikely that the film will go into production anytime soon. The next James Bond film will be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman. Not much details about the film's plot or cast has been unveiled yet. Earlier in 2022, Amazon acquired MGM along with its wide catalog of over 4,000 films and 17,000 shows. In 2025, Amazon MGM Studios closed a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, further gaining creative control of the James Bond rights.

Barbara Broccoli hails 'fantastic filmmaker' Denis Villeneuve

Barbara Broccoli is "thrilled" Denis Villeneuve is directing the next James Bond movie. The 65-year-old producer has given up creative control of the Bond franchise to Amazon MGM Studios, but she's convinced that Denis is the perfect candidate to helm the next movie. During an appearance on the Kermode on Film podcast, Barbara said: "He's a fantastic filmmaker - I'm thrilled he's going to be doing it." Amy Pascal and David Heyman have replaced Barbara and Michael G. Wilson as producers on the next Bond film. However, Barbara - who is a producer on the musical adaptation of Sing Street - still has lots of career ambitions that she wants to achieve. Asked if she would be "removed" or "hands on" with the next Bond movie, the producer replied: "You know, I did it for 44 years and I loved every minute of it, but I'm getting up there now and there's a lot of things I want to do … like this beautiful musical. I'm doing a lot of other things. I have other movies I want to make and other stage shows." Denis, 57, previously revealed that he intends to "honour the tradition" of the Bond franchise. The filmmaker said in a statement: "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. "I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour. Amy, David and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust." Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney has recently been tipped to play a Bond girl in Denis' upcoming movie. The 27-year-old actress has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, starring in TV shows such as Euphoria and The Handmaid's Tale, and Denis thinks she's perfectly suited to the role of a Bond girl. A source recently told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. "Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise." Sydney and Denis have already spent time together, and the director has "admired her stratospheric rise" over recent years. The insider continued: "They've hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. "Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of the Bond girls."

Why I'm Kind of Worried about Denis Villeneuve Directing the Next Bond Film

With Daniel Craig bowing out of the franchise, James Bond is primed for a reboot, and the search for a new Bond and a new director is on. According to Variety, Amazon MGM Studios has revealed that Denis Villeneuve ( Blade Runner 2049, Dune ) is officially going to direct the next entry, and it looks like Villeneuve himself is also pretty hyped for the job. He says: 'Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since 'Dr. No' with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory… I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.' While I have no doubt that Villeneuve will deliver a spectacle of a movie, I was hoping that the franchise would return back to its goofier roots—that's why I was rooting for Edgar Wright to land the job. For context, Bond movies were considered a bit like silly action films for decades with Bond going on missions against cartoonish villains with ridiculous technology—this point was brought home with the popularity of the Austin Powers franchise. With the rise of the Daniel Craig era though, the Bond films had embraced a more serious aesthetic—not unlike the Bourne franchise that was running alongside it. So far a while the Craig version of Bond took itself very seriously. They were still spectacle action movies, but the goofiness of the gadgets and villains was kind of toned down. Now going back to Villeneuve, I'm sure that he has something very stylistic in mind, but his movies have been very serious—something I think that Bond has had more than enough of over the past decade. Even the Kingsman franchise tried to bring goofiness back to the action spy genre, but that eventually tapered off. Who knows, maybe Villeneuve has something in store that will surprise all of us, but I'm sure that his fans who are going to be lining up for the film are going to be looking for something that is specifically his brand of cinema. I'd imagine they'd be annoyed if Villeneuve was suddenly all fun and colorful. For now, no release date has been set for the next Bond , but I wish Villeneuve the best; and hopefully he has the same idea to make Bond a bit more fun again.

Henry Golding, reported contender for James Bond role, calls it "every actor's nightmare'

Henry Golding shared his thoughts about the possibility of playing James Bond at the red carpet premiere of The Old Guard 2 in Los Angeles. 'I think that's every actor's kind of nightmare,' Golding told People, referring to taking on the iconic spy role. He noted that while actors may wish to bring fresh energy to a longstanding franchise, they face substantial expectations. 'Maybe I'm just a pussy. I don't know. But I think I would love it so much more if there wasn't that overhanging cultural pressure,' he added. Golding is among several actors under consideration for the next Bond, including Theo James, Regé‑Jean Page, Aaron Pierre, James Norton and Idris Elba. Daniel Craig last portrayed Bond in No Time to Die in 2021. Previous Bond actors include George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Sean Connery. The character was created by Ian Fleming in 1953 and first appeared on screen in Dr. No in 1962. In a related update, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed on June 25 that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next Bond film. Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman in producer roles. Villeneuve said he aims to honour Bond's legacy while preparing for future stories, calling the opportunity 'a massive responsibility' and 'a huge honour.' Amazon MGM Studios has not yet named a writer or confirmed casting or a release date for the next film. Golding's remarks highlight the challenge actors face when stepping into widely recognised roles within major franchises like Bond.

Henry Golding says playing James Bond is ‘every actor's nightmare': 'Maybe I'm just a...'

Taking on the role of James Bond is one of the biggest honours and pressures an actor can face. The chance to play the suave British spy on screen comes with sky-high expectations and a long legacy to live up to. Henry Golding knows this all too well. At the red carpet premiere of 'The Old Guard 2' in Los Angeles on 25 June, Golding told People, 'I think that's every actor's kind of nightmare.' 'But at the same time, [you're] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise,' he added. 'Why can't they bring out more agents or more OOs? I think that would be so much more fun because there just isn't the restraints and the expectation.' Golding admitted, 'Maybe I'm just a p*ssy,' despite his first reaction. 'I don't know. But I think I would love it so much more if there wasn't that overhanging cultural pressure.' Other actors also in the running Golding is one of several contenders to play the martini-drinking superspy in the next Bond film. In November 2024, Variety listed Theo James, Regé-Jean Page, Aaron Pierre, James Norton, and Idris Elba among the favourites. Daniel Craig last played Bond in the 2021 film 'No Time to Die'. The character has also been portrayed by Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, and most famously Sean Connery. Bond was created by British author Ian Fleming in 1953. Connery's role in the 1962 film 'Dr. No' began the legendary film series.
