Daniel Dubois' coach breaks silence on party before Oleksandr Usyk defeat
The British heavyweight star has faced a wide range of criticism for attending a party just hours before his fight with Oleksandr Usyk Daniel Dubois ' trainer Don Charles has DEFENDED the Brit's dad's 'gathering' ahead of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk. 'Triple D' suffered his second defeat to the Ukrainian on Saturday night in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. The 27-year-old was looking to level the series after suffering a ninth round knockout loss in the initial encounter back in 2023. Usyk dominated the majority of the sequel thanks to his sharp jabs and quick movement. Dubois did have his moments in the fourth round - but was eventually stopped deep into the fifth after being dropped twice. However, the biggest news came before the undisputed showdown after the Brit pulled up to the venue 90 minutes before he was due to make the walk to the ring. It has since been revealed that Dubois' dad held a party at his house in Essex just hours before the fight. However, the young Brit's trainer has defended the pre-fight bash and insists it is not the first time the heavyweight has held a gathering before a huge outing. Speaking on talkSPORT's White and Jordan, Charles insisted it was a tactic also used before he beat Anthony Joshua last September. "Let's retract that word, it wasn't a party it was a gathering," he said. "The same gathering was used as the prep on fight day for the AJ fight, the day he won. "A lot was made of it with the energy he walked out at for the Anthony Joshua fight. That gathering was taken from home to the dressing room for that fight. That energy is what gave birth to that energy that he showed in the ring walk. Yes [we tried to replicate it], we were victorious, if it works for you the first time, you'd do it again. "There might have been more people for this second gathering to get more energy, I'm a logical man and it makes logical sense. The AJ fight was big but this even trumps it, I try to understand and it may appear madness to people but it was the same thing that got us victory." Reports claim that Dubois briefly left the home because he did not know the people in attendance. His father later drove him to Wembley after private cars which were accredited to enter the venue around the national stadium were used to transport the team to the venue. That would only go on to further Dubois' arrival as they travelled in a car that was not accredited. There were also stunning scenes when entering the venue over getting some of those partygoers into the venue with Dubois held up in the middle of it all. When asked if Dubois knew all of the attendees at the party, Charles said: "I can't tell you he did. I wasn't there and I chose not to go there. My duty is on the training team to make sure we go to the dressing room and make sure everything is intact." When is Daniel Dubois' next fight? Whether the constant delays on the day of the fight affected Dubois' performance remains to be seen. As for what's next for the young Brit, his promoter Frank Warren has advised 'Triple D' to take six months off and learn from Usyk's mental resilience. He said: "You've got to learn from defeats, I mean that's what life's about, isn't it? You know, not everything goes your way, you got to come back, it's the mark of a man if he can do it, and we'll see if he could do it. "He's got to resurrect himself. That's what we've had to do. That's the story. Usyk a quality, quality fighter, he has a great boxing IQ, and he's got the most unbelievable mental attitude. That's what makes him. That's what Daniel's got to learn from. Try and get and develop the mental attitude that Usyk has."

Footage emerges of Daniel Dubois partying before Oleksandr Usyk fight
Fans were left shocked when the British heavyweight star turned up to his fight with Usyk just 90 minutes before he was set to make his walk to the ring Stunning footage has emerged of the party which saw Daniel Dubois turn up late to his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night. Many within the boxing community have blasted the gathering - which was reportedly put on Dubois' father Stand - as a 'disruptive' interference with the heavyweight star's day. 'Triple D' sparked fears after he pulled up to Wembley Stadium just after 8:20pm - 90 minutes before he was scheduled to make the walk to the ring. Dubois went on to suffer a brutal knockout defeat in the fifth round. The Brit struggled to get into the fight. And - despite having some success in the fourth round - was dropped with a right hand before being sent crashing to the canvas seconds later with a stinging left, which forced the referee to wave off the fight. Prior to his bout with Usyk, footage has emerged of Dubois' dad throwing a party in his Essex home just hours before the fight. It has been reported that around 70 people attended the bash - some of whom 'Triple D' didn't even know. A video - which has gone viral online - shows Dubois being mobbed by partygoers at his house while music plays in the background. Further reports state that the 27-year-old left the home and briefly went for a quick drive. His father later drove him to Wembley after private cars - which were accredited to enter the area around the national stadium - were used to transport guests to the venue. That only delayed Dubois' arrival as the car they travelled in was not accredited and he did not get into the venue until 90 minutes before the scheduled ring walk time. Usyk turned up slightly earlier to watch his good friend and teammate Daniel Lapin compete on the undercard. There were also chaotic scenes when entering the venue over getting some of those party guests into the venue with Dubois held up in the middle of it all. Speaking on talkSPORT, Joseph Parker, Lawrence Okolie and Spencer Oliver were all left stunned by the reports. "That is insanely disruptive," said Joseph Parker. "I'm very surprised, I'm shocked. That many people over? You're preparing for a massive fight. You need rest, you need to chill, you need to get in the zone, and he's got this big party happening." Lawrence Okolie concurred: "The problem is, it's coming from someone that he looks (to) out of the ring. It's coming from his dad. I've trained with him, his dad's a huge part of his life, so that is obviously going to be disruptive," while Spencer Oliver added: "We're talking about fighters being regimental and superstitious on the day, some fighters want to wear a ring in their laces and all that stuff. It all has to be on point for you to go in there, any little thing can throw you off track." When is Daniel Dubois' next fight? Whether the constant delays on the day of the fight affected Dubois' performance remains to be seen. As for what's next for the young Brit, his promoter Frank Warren has advised 'Triple D' to take six months off and learn from Usyk's mental resilience if he wants to make it back to the top. Warren stated: "You've got to learn from defeats, I mean that's what life's about, isn't it? You know, not everything goes your way, you got to come back, it's the mark of a man if he can do it, and we'll see if he could do it. "He's got to resurrect himself. That's what we've had to do. That's the story. Usyk a quality, quality fighter, he has a great boxing IQ, and he's got the most unbelievable mental attitude. That's what makes him. That's what Daniel's got to learn from. Daniel Dubois house party video emerges after Oleksandr Usyk defeat
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Footage has emerged of the pre-fight party held at Daniel Dubois' home just hours before his undisputed world heavyweight title defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday. The 27-year-old lost his IBF heavyweight title as he was knocked out in the fifth round by Usyk, who delivered a dominant display in their rematch at Wembley. However, Dubois' preparations for the biggest fight of his career to date were chaotic as he arrived at Wembley less than 90 minutes before he was due to make his ring walk. In contrast, Usyk arrived 45 minutes earlier than his opponent. It has also emerged that Dubois' father, Stanley, arranged a party at the family mansion in Essex on the day of the fight. In the footage taken at the gathering, partygoers could be heard shouting, 'and the new', in anticipation of Dubois beating Usyk to become the new undisputed world heavyweight later that day. Dubois was also seen smiling and posing for photos with the guests. According to The Times, Dubois did not know every person who attended the party and left the gathering at one point for a drive. The report adds that Stanley Dubois requested extra cars to bring his entourage from the party to Wembley, while his son had to walk to the entrance on foot from the car park as the vehicle he arrived in was not accredited. Security at Wembley also tried to prevent some of Dubois' extra entourage from entering the stadium before Stanley threatened that the fight would not go ahead if they were not let in. Joseph Parker, who is the mandatory challenger for Usyk's WBO belt, said he is 'shocked' by Dubois' preparations for the fight. 'That is insanely disruptive,' Parker said on talkSPORT's talkBOXING show. 'I'm very surprised, I'm shocked. That many people over? You're preparing for a massive fight. 'You need rest, you need to chill, you need to get in the zone, and he's got this big party happening.' Lawrence Okolie, who has trained alongside Dubois, added: 'The problem is, it's coming from someone that he looks [to] out of the ring. It's coming from his dad. 'I've trained with him, his dad's a huge part of his life, so that is obviously going to be disruptive.' Meanwhile, talkSPORT broadcaster Simon Jordan has suggested that Dubois' father had become a 'destructive force' on the day of the fight. 'There is a lot of noise, and again, this must not be used as an excuse for Oleksandr Usyk's excellence,' Jordan told talkSPORT. 'But he [Dubois] had a party at his house before the event, and you have 50,60,70 people at a party that the kid doesn't know, so he has to go round the corner and drive because he doesn't know anyone at the party. 'And then you get to the event, and people want this entourage to be brought in. And then they start telling security guards that if the entourage isn't allowed to come in, then Daniel won't fight. More Trending 'And then his dad has other things to say in the corner, which I don't think are particularly productive. Once upon a time, it was considered to be useful because Daniel defers to his father on everything, and I'm not suggesting that his father hasn't been a massive influence in what we have seen. 'But I'm suggesting there is a balance between being an influence and a destructive force. Don Charles is an employee. Don Charles is in the corner working for Daniel Dubois' father. 'I'm not looking for excuses, but I'm just saying that I'm not sure the preparation on the day of the event is where it should have been. 'I'm not saying that Oleksandr Usyk wouldn't have done the same thing to Daniel Dubois, but it doesn't help him.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Daniel Dubois can eclipse Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua after making huge change
Daniel Dubois returns to Wembley with perhaps the trickiest assignment in boxing – solving the puzzle that is Oleksandr Usyk. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have both tried and failed on two occasions with the masterful Ukrainian adding them to his list of battered and broken victims. The former cruiserweight king has been right at home outboxing the best of British – since November 2018, he has fought just one fighter outside the UK, leaving a trail of devastation in his wake in beating them all. Usyk effortlessly danced around the country's best generation of heavyweights on his way to being crowned undisputed heavyweight champion last year – a feat he is looking to achieve again on Saturday night by reclaiming the IBF title against Daniel Dubois. Dubois has also been there before and fallen short, put down by Usyk in what was his first world title fight in August 2023 in Poland. So what's different now? Dubois' journey since that night in Wroclaw has been transformational. While the fight was engulfed by that low blow controversy, the Londoner could not find the killer touch to finish his vulnerable opponent in the fifth round before having the spirit pummelled out of him. It again raised questions over Dubois' heart, posing the same questions that had dogged him ever since his 2020 defeat to Joe Joyce. Dubois took a knee in the 10th round that night after his opponent's ramrod jab battered him into submission, causing extensive damage to his eye. Those setbacks were the making of Dubois. In a must-win fight for both men, Dubois produced a final round knockout to down Jarrell Miller in December 2023. Six month later, he left the previously undefeated Flilip Hrgovic a bloody mess on his way to becoming IBF heavyweight champion. Last September removed any remaining doubts over Dubois' place at the top of the division – dismantling Anthony Joshua in front of 90,000 at Wembley. The killer instinct Dubois was previously accused of lacking was there for all to see. Johnny Nelson has been one of Dubois' toughest critics over the years. But the former cruiserweight champion believes the difficult nights and the scrutiny that followed have moulded him into something better. 'The main person who needed those questions answered was Daniel,' Nelson told Metro. 'There is always doubt in situations like that but doubt can turn into belief and that is what has happened to Daniel. 'He has more faith in himself and that's all he needed. The experience he went through were very tough, damaging for him. But he needed those experiences to say I can do this. 'Everyone thinks you need to have an unbeaten record to be a star which is rubbish. It is great for the promoters when it comes to selling a fight but winning and losing is part of boxing and it moulds a fighter. It makes them the fighter they are. Daniel's losses are part of his making.' While Dubois has concussive power, Usyk's bewildering ability could be the difference once again on Saturday as he demonstrated two years ago in Poland. But the WBO, WBA and WBC champion is now 38 years old with 24 gruelling rounds with Fury adding more miles to the clock since the first fight. While still only 27, Dubois now has the world title experience he sorely lacked first time around. And as he so brutally demonstrated against Joshua, he also possesses the instinct to put his man down and keep him there. More Trending Beating Usyk would see Dubois become the second Briton after Lennox Lewis in 1999 to reign as undisputed heavyweight champion – a feat Fury and Joshua chased and chased. The dream may be gone for them but for Dubois, it stands before him. 'Daniel can eclipse both of them,' Nelson said. 'Usyk has left a trail of devastation behind him. Daniel has already knocked out AJ, there will be a lot of people believing he can knock out Fury if that fight ever happens. 'If he beats the giant killer in Usyk, he is ahead of them both.' Major blow for Daniel Dubois as he pulls out of Joseph Parker showdown through illness
Daniel Dubois has withdrawn from defending his International Boxing Federation heavyweight title against Joseph Parker in Riyadh on Saturday night after falling ill. Dubois, 27, who stopped Anthony Joshua in five rounds last September at Wembley Stadium, was struck from the card in Saudi Arabia after being assessed by a doctor. Parker will now face dangerous puncher Martin Bakole, ranked the seventh best heavyweight in the world by The Ring magazine. The fight week drama follows American Floyd Schofield's withdrawal from his world title clash with compatriot Shakur Stevenson, after Schofield was hospitalised through a mystery illness. Parker, 33 was a former World Boxing Organisation heavyweight champion, losing his title by decision to Joshua in Cardiff in 2018 and has a record of 35 victories, and three defeats. Bakole, who is Congolese and trains in Scotland, has 22 victories with 16 knockouts. This represents a major opportunity for the 31-year-old heavyweight who was due to fight Efe Ajagba in May in the United States as a final eliminator for Dubois' world championship title. Frank Warren, Dubois' promoter, confirmed that Dubois was undergoing medical examinations at Thursday's press conference. 'Unfortunately, at this moment in time, Daniel is being evaluated by a doctor and when we have more news, we will share it with you and update you.' said Warren before Dubois' withdrawal was confirmed. Spencer Brown, Parker's manager, said that contingencies had been drawn up once Dubois' illness first came to light. 'There will be a fight. Whoever we're going to fight on Saturday, Joe's up for it,' said Brown. 'He doesn't care. He's one of those fighters. He'll fight anybody.'
