Keningau to host first Dusunic Sabah Carnival in August

KOTA KINABALU (July 12): The Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association plans to hold the Dusunic Sabah Carnival at Apin-Apin, Keningau next month. Its president, Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, stated that the event aims to promote and preserve Dusunic culture in the state. He mentioned that the carnival also seeks to encourage the use of the Dusunic language to ensure that this local heritage does not fade away with time. Gimbang noted that the Dusunic Sabah Carnival in Keningau will feature activities such as speech competitions, poetry, cultural attire and Dusunic language workshops. He made these remarks after chairing a meeting of the Dusunic Languages Preservation Association of Sabah. Gimbang added that the Dusunic Sabah Carnival program will be expanded to other districts, including Ranau soon. Additionally, he mentioned that the association will organise a Dusunic Language Workshop in Bongawan in August.

Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association president Datuk Lawrence Gimbang said the carnival will include speech and poetry competitions, cultural attire showcases, and language workshops. He said the initiative aims to encourage the continued use of the Dusunic language among younger generations. Speaking after chairing a meeting of the association, Lawrence added that the carnival will soon be introduced in other districts, including Ranau.
