
Sabah Dusunic Carnival to be held in Keningau next month

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Dusunic Carnival will be held in Apin-Apin, Keningau next month to promote and preserve the Dusunic language and culture. Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association president Datuk Lawrence Gimbang said the carnival will include speech and poetry competitions, cultural attire showcases, and language workshops. He said the initiative aims to encourage the continued use of the Dusunic language among younger generations. Speaking after chairing a meeting of the association, Lawrence added that the carnival will soon be introduced in other districts, including Ranau. Pulau Berhala gets clean water supply with solar-powered system

The solar-powered system can serve 5,000–7,500 users with 4–6 litres of water daily per person. It is the first of 10 units planned for remote and hard-to-access areas in Sabah. Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon launched the system on Tuesday, emphasizing the right of all residents including those on remote islands to basic, safe, and quality utilities. Jetama Chairperson Liau Fui Fui said the project, announced late last year, is now fully operational and aims to benefit the islanders. Most Pulau Berhala residents work as fishermen. Farmhouse damaged in fire

RANAU: A farmer lost his farmhouse after the building caught fire at Simpang Kg Nampasan Baru, Jalan Poring, here, early Monday. Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, PPgB Rantey Fred, said there was no casualty in the 9.16am incident. He said Fire and Rescue personnel managed to extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading to a nearby house. 'An emergency call was received via the Station Line and a group of seven firefighters led by Operations Commander, PBK I Becket bin Gumat, rushed to the location. 'Upon arriving at the scene which is located 15km from the station, the semi-permanent farmhouse measuring 50x20ft was already 60pc burnt. 'There operation was carried out using one 300ft stream and two water jets from fire engines,' he said, adding that the cause of fire and estimated losses are still under investigation. After ensuring there was no further danger, the operation was wrapped up at 10.31am. He reiterated the call towards the public to be more cautious of fire incidents, especially during dry and windy seasons. Sembulan folks seek ongoing support from Gagasan Rakyat

Tanjung Aru division committee member Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng said the initiative was carried out following calls from local residents highlighting the urgent needs of several families. Advertisement 'As a committee member of Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru, I felt compelled to come down personally with our volunteer team to deliver the food baskets,' he said. Also present during the distribution was the village chief of Kampung Sembulan Tengah, Jamaiyah Ahmad, who joined in reaching out to each recipient household. During the programme, villagers also appealed to Dr Ritchie for assistance in repairing a damaged section of a bridge that serves as a vital link within the community. 'I welcome a community-based effort to restore the damaged bridge section as soon as possible,' Dr Ritchie responded. He noted that the food aid initiative is part of Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru's ongoing efforts to support residents in need across the constituency. 'We hope this contribution can ease the burden of families here, and most importantly, let them know that Sembulan families are always remembered,' he added. Dr Ritchie also expressed appreciation for the volunteers who ensured the food baskets were delivered smoothly.
