Sean 'Diddy' Combs Acquitted Of Sex Trafficking But Guilty Of Transportation For Prostitution
Almost two months and 34 witnesses later, and the jury in the trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs has reached a verdict: the musician was acquitted on all charges but the jury returned a guilty verdict on two counts, both of transportation to engage in prostitution relating to Cassie Ventura and an anonymous victim known only as 'Jane'. Per the BBC, the jury deliberated for 13 hours over three days to come to a unanimous decision on the charges against Combs. The trial has been running in New York since May. Much of that court time focused on the prosecution's case. While the verdict isn't a full acquittal, per several outlets, Combs' relief as the charges were read out was palpable. 'Combs just left the courtroom, and before he did, he got on his knees, put his face into his chair and appeared to be praying. He was shaking,' wrote the BBC. 'He got up, looked toward his family, and started clapping loudly as his family and supporters joined in, cheering in the overflow room too.' Per the New York Times, before the verdict was read, Combs walked into the courtroom and mouthed 'We got this' to his family. He was reading a printout of Psalm 11. Combs faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence on each of the two prostitution counts, which Judge Arun Subramanian will determine the sentencing of at a later date. The acquittals on the sex trafficking counts mean he will avoid a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence. He could have faced life in prison if he were convicted on sex trafficking or racketeering conspiracy. The 12-person jury was comprised of eight men and four women, ranging in age from 30 to 74. This is an ongoing story and this piece will be updated. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Why There Will Be No Season 7 For 'The Handmaid's Tale'
There's less than one week until The Handmaid's Tale season six finale — and yes, it will be the final finale, as the show comes to a close this season. Sadly for fans — or maybe happily for those who can't take any more of the tension — there will be no season seven of The Handmaid's Tale. However, all is not lost as the show is making way for a televised version of The Testaments, Margaret Atwood's follow-up sequel to her original novel, which takes place several years after the end of The Handmaid's Tale. But just why did the team behind the show decide to make season six the last series? The decision was announced in 2022 just as the fifth season started to air that the sixth would be the last. But show creator Bruce Miller admitted that he'd had the arc of the show in mind for even longer. In an interview back in 2022 with The Hollywood Reporter, he spoke about the show finishing with a sixth season, saying: 'It's been a very, very, very luxurious time that I've had to think about what happens at the end of this story and exactly how we'd like to get there as a company. I'm very glad we're able to do it on our own terms because I know how lucky that makes us — all the actors and creative people who put their hearts and souls into it — to close up the play the way you want. Dropping the curtain the way you want is such a huge privilege.' He added: 'I've been thinking about the end since the beginning. I've been thinking about the end of this story since I read The Handmaid's Tale the first time. It's one of those books that when you finish reading it, all you think about is the end. So in the end, story-wise, we've been able to stay pretty close to what we had thought, from our initial discussions and what Lizzy [star Elisabeth Moss] and I had talked about, and what Margaret and I had talked about.' Of course, in some ways, the ending of the show will have to be dictated by what is to come in The Testaments — but it seems Miller enjoyed the challenge. 'The Testaments was an independent curveball created by Margaret Atwood for the series I was working on,' he said at the time. 'I think she had had it in her head for a while. I tried as much as possible, and I'm still trying, to not really make The Handmaid's Tale about The Testaments. The Handmaid's Tale should be good on its own and when it's done, it should be a nice little TV set that you put on the shelf next to the novel, and it hopefully adds to your enjoyment of it, and then you can move onto The Testaments.' Fans will be reassured though to know that filming on The Testaments has started, so while there's no official date for it to start yet, you won't have to wait too long. And of course, you can pick up the book too — the audiobook is especially good, having been voiced by several actors including Ann Dowd, Bryce Dallas Howard and Mae Whitman. The Handmaid's Tale season six is available to stream on Channel 4 now. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Squid Game's third — and final — series is almost upon us. The highly-anticipated series, which will be released on June 27, will feature six episodes all of which will be available to stream tomorrow (meaning we have a weekend full of bingeing ahead of us). As for what we can expect from the third season of Squid Game: 'Picking up where the second season left off, season three explores the choices Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae) will make amidst overwhelming despair,' the official logline of the third season reads. 'As the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action.' It might be Squid Game's final season, but the Korean drama will leave a lasting legacy given its runaway success. Squid Game season two became Netflix's third most-watched series ever, garnering 68 million views upon its debut — breaking the record for the most views in a premiere week — and ranking number one in the top non-English TV series list across 92 countries. So, when will the new episodes drop? This is everything you need to know. Squid Game season three will premiere on Netflix on June 27 at 8am GMT. But if you're not based in the UK, Here's all the times the series lands on Netflix where you are on 27th June: There are six episodes in the third instalment, and all six episodes will be available to stream on Friday. 'The ending is something you really cannot expect,' Lee Jung-Jae, who plays Gi-Hun, told Variety. 'I am looking forward to what kind of interpretations viewers have.' When Hwang first announced Squid Game's renewal for a third season, he promised to deliver another 'thrill ride' and teased, 'The fierce clash between [Gi-Hun and the Front Man's] two worlds will continue into the series finale.' Loved 'We Were Liars'? There's A Prequel, 'Family Of Liars' — And It Could Be The Plot Of Season Two
This article contains spoilers for the ending of 'We Were Liars' For many viewers, the grown Sinclair sisters were one of the highlights of We Were Liars. And now, if that final scene of the series is anything to go by, we could be getting a lot more of them if a season two happens. Following the success of the 2014 book, We Were Liars, author E. Lockhart decided to expand the 'Sinclair universe' and wrote a prequel, Family Of Liars. The book tells the story of the Sinclair sisters when they were younger, notably the summer that older sister Carrie (Mamie Gummer) turned 17. The story is framed around Carrie talking to the ghost of her dead son, Johnny (Joseph Zada) — one of The Liars from We Were Liars — and telling him everything that happened. While a second season of We Were Liars has yet to be confirmed, the final scene of its first outing, shows Carrie turning back to addiction and talking to Johnny, which seems to confirm that any follow-up would be faithful to the plot of the prequel book. Further, one of the showrunners for the screen adaptation, Carina Adly MacKenzie, hinted to Variety that any future series would involve the prequel book: 'The great thing about this show is that the first season has a satisfying, powerful ending. So I want people who generally don't tune in to the first season because they're afraid it's going to get canceled, to know that they're safe to watch this show, and if it doesn't get a second season, you've still got a whole story. But also, Emily wrote three books and we love this world. We love our cast. We'd love the opportunity that exists for more story, so we're hopeful that we'll get to come back and do more. But also, should this be a limited series, I think it's a beautiful story.' The third book MacKenzie noted is We Fell Apart, an upcoming novel which will be released in November. The story finds eldest sister Carrie telling her son, Johnny, stories of when she was young - before explaining to him the summer she turned 17, and the Sinclair sisters themselves became liars. Telling the story of how Carrie became addicted to medication after a routine jaw operation, the tale picks up just after the death of the youngest Sinclair sister, Rosemary, with the whole family reeling privately, but, in true We Were Liars fashion, trying to put on a front as 'American royalty'. The story continues to flesh out the secrets of the Sinclair family that are hinted at in We Were Liars' first season and shows the reasons the sisters are the way they are — it's a must-read for fans of the first book (and show).
