Suspect accused of using victims' gun in 'American Idol' murders

July 22 (UPI) -- Suspect Raymond Boodarian allegedly used a firearm owned by victims Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca to shoot and kill the couple inside their Encino, Calif., home on July 10. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman on Monday night said Boodarian, 22, used a gun owned by Kaye and Deluca to shoot and kill the couple and then called the police. "Mr. Boodarian got caught because he used his cell phone to contact police concerning the situation [and] actually identified himself by name," Hochman told attendees during a special meeting of the Encino Neighborhood Council. "Police were able to ping the cell phone, find out where he lived, go to his residence and arrest him." Hochman said police found the gun used to kill the couple at the crime scene. "The gun that was actually used in the murders wasn't [Boodarian's] gun," Hochman told meeting attendees. "It was a gun that he recovered from the actual house," he added. "It was Robin's and Tom's gun." More than 100 Encino residents attended an Encino Neighborhood Council meeting to discuss the matter on Monday night, which Hochman addressed. The residents were concerned that Boodarian was released from jail last year despite being suspected of battery, making threats and brandishing a weapon, ENC President Josh Sautter told NBC News. A judge dismissed the case following a mental health evaluation of Boodarian. Kaye and Deluca, both age 70, returned home on the evening of July 10 while Boodarian allegedly was inside to burglarize it, Hochman said. Local police discovered the victims' bodies while conducting a welfare check four days later on July 14. Los Angeles Police arrested Boodarian on July 15 and said he is an Encino resident. Boodarian is charged with two counts of murder during a robbery, one count of burglary, intentional use of a firearm and committing multiple murders. He is being held without bail and has an arraignment hearing scheduled on Aug. 20 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, during which he could enter a plea. Kaye was a music supervisor on the popular "American Idol" television show, and Deluca was a musician.

Allow TGSPF to guard right side of Nagarjunasagar project: ENC to Krishna River Management Board

HYDERABAD: Telangana Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief Mohd Amjad Hussain in a letter to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Tuesday sought permission at the earliest to facilitate the deployment of TGSPF personnel at the right-side guard post to strengthen the security of the Nagarjunasagar project (NSP). Hussain said that NSP was recognised as one of the dams of national importance and threat perception has significantly increased since 1990. As per the vulnerability assessment model suggested by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the dam has been categorised as 'Category A' indicating high vulnerability. In response to the evolving security concerns, the state government deployed Telangana State Special Protection Force (TGSPF) personnel at the dam. At present, 12 security guard posts are manned by over 70 members of TGSPF staff round the clock. 'However, over the past few months, no TGSPF personnel have been deployed at three specific guard posts on the right side of the dam,' the ENC said in the letter. He stated that CRPF personnel are being deployed only at the main dam. When TGSPF sent three constables and one officer for deployment at the right side of the NSP, the CRPF refused to allow them without orders from the KRMB, the ENC said.

Govt gives clean chit to PHE minister, closes probe in 10 days

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh govt closed an internal inquiry into a complaint alleging irregularities involving Rs 30,000 crore allocated under the Jal Jeevan Mission and involving Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister Sampatiya Uikey within 10 days. The PHE Department described the allegations as "baseless and without evidence." Former MLA Kishore Samrite filed the complaint, and the PMO forwarded it to Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, who passed it to Principal Secretary P Narhari's office. He subsequently moved it to Chief Engineer Sanjay Andhavan (ENC), who initiated an inquiry. The state govt issued an official release stating that the inquiry was closed due to lack of evidence. Meanwhile, insiders say that engineer-in-chief (ENC) Sanjay Andhavan, who took cognizance of the matter, faces internal pressure for his 'proactive' handling of a politically sensitive issue. He reportedly faces heat within the department for acting quickly on a complaint involving a sitting minister. The internal inquiry concluded in less than 10 days found that the complaint relied solely on RTI documents and lacked verifiable proof of financial misconduct. The department called the allegations "fabricated, baseless, and devoid of facts." Not convinced by the findings, Samrite approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking a CBI investigation. He alleged that PHE minister Sampatiya Uikey received Rs 1,000 crore in commission from Jal Jeevan Mission funds and accused a former ENC of siphoning off Rs 2,000 crore through his accountant. Additional allegations include the withdrawal of Rs 150 crore by the executive engineer in Betul without executing any work and the submission of fake completion certificates for over 7,000 projects. Samrite also demanded an audit of nearly 27,000 utilisation certificates submitted by engineers across the state as proof of completed projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He claimed that "all the certificates are fake," and were created to falsely justify fund disbursement. He claims that despite the magnitude of the allegations, the state govt did not escalate the matter beyond the departmental inquiry — and moreover had this inquired by a junior-level officer instead of transferring it to a different agency. Attempts to reach minister Sampatiya Uikey for comment were unsuccessful. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
