Tesla to open first India store on July 15 in Mumbai

(Reuters) -Electric vehicle maker Tesla inched closer to start its sales in India, as it said on Friday it would be opening its first showroom at the financial hub of Mumbai on July 15, dubbed as an "experience center". Reuters reported in March that the Elon Musk-led company had signed a lease deal to open its first showroom in Mumbai to start its sales in India. As a part of its entry into the South Asian nation, the EV maker had stepped up hiring and in the past was scouting for showroom sites in Mumbai and India's capital city, New Delhi. BYD Dolphin Review 2025

A small hatchback from the world's largest manufacturer of electric vehicles. Yep, you read that right: in 2024, it delivered a hammer blow to Tesla as it knocked it off the top spot in the global EV maker charts. It's already a household name in China – FYI that acronym stands for Build Your Dreams, and you won't forget it because it's scrawled across the bootlid. Cringe. And now it's aiming for worldwide domination. Advertisement - Page continues below So, the Dolphin. First thing to know is yes, it's named after the ocean mammal. Designed to look like one too, though we're not sure we see the resemblance. It's entirely inoffensive though, which is a backhanded way of saying it's quite dull. It's not the only car here from BYD either: there's the Dolphin Surf supermini, Seal saloon and Sealion 7 crossover-coupe. Something of a theme going on here, right? Wait, there's also the Atto 3 crossover. Not sure what happened there… Huh. What are the numbers? At launch there were varying power outputs and two battery sizes available. Now though, you've just got the option of a 201bhp electric motor mated to a 60.4kWh battery for up to 265 miles of WLTP range. While those are pretty standard figures for the sector, some rivals notably offer bigger batteries for more range, including the MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3. Others to consider include the likes of the Cupra Born, Peugeot e-308, Renault Megane E-Tech and Vauxhall Astra Electric. Advertisement - Page continues below A quick glance at BYD's website and you'll note that a 30-80 per cent charge takes 29 minutes on a 100kW DC charger. Wait, 30-80 per cent? Bit cheeky that, because most rivals will measure themselves from 20 per cent. Add another 10 minutes of thumb-twiddling here. Is it any good to drive? A mixed bag. It steers accurately and consistently, and the acceleration and brakes are nicely judged. The ride is on the softer side, and around town it handles our potholed roads and speed bumps happily enough. Issue is, that softness leads to a slightly unsettled ride on B-roads and motorways. There's a fair amount of body roll, jostling and head toss, which could be an issue if you've got any little 'uns prone to car sickness. It also has a tendency to wander within its lane at higher speeds, meaning you're constantly having to make steering adjustments to stay in the centre, which makes for hard work. Full lowdown on the Driving tab. Shame. Does it redeem itself in the cabin? The Dolphin's party trick is its central rotating screen. And the dolphin flipper-shaped door handles, which are a nice touch. But back to that central screen, which measures 12.8 inches and can be rotated between landscape and portrait. That's great and everything, but what's the point? We rotated it to portrait mode once but then swiftly reverted to landscape. It offers a split screen mode too, for driver and passenger, but again it feels little more than a gimmick. That's not to say it's more interesting than the outside though. Because it is, with BYD's crayon team seemingly given free rein to play with whatever shapes and colours they wanted. And it feels nicely finished. Good amount of space, too. Come on then, what's a Dolphin gonna cost me? From as little as £3.50 a month according to everyone's favourite search engine. To adopt, that is. Oh wait, you meant the car, didn't you… Well, along with reducing the number of electric motor/battery combos the trim levels have also been simplified, with just two now available. This means the cheapest Dolphin starts at £30,205, and the range-topper is £31,705. Our choice from the range BYD 150kW Design 60.4kWh 5dr Auto £31,640 See prices and specs What's the verdict? ' The unpolished drive demonstrates several disconnected handling traits. Often in the same corner ' On the face of it, the BYD Dolphin is one of the best value small electric hatchbacks around. It undercuts all but the MG4, and offers plenty of kit for the money. We like the funky cabin too, and the spaciousness defies its size. Shame, then, that it's so completely forgettable to look at. And that two-tone paintjob does little for us. But even if we forced ourselves to look past that, we're not sure we could get on with the unpolished drive, which demonstrates several disconnected handling traits. Often in the same corner. The MG4 proves that Chinese cars can be cheap and good to drive, and gimmicks can only do so much to mask a lack of dynamic talent. A couple of years back this might have cut it, but not any more.

Expert Who Predicted Tesla Stock Crash Reconsiders — Bitcoin and 3 More Factors To Watch

Crypto investor and analyst Tuur Demeester made a great call in August 2022: swap your Tesla shares for Bitcoin. Shortly after that call, Tesla took a massive slide and is only up by 12% since August 2022. Meanwhile, Bitcoin recovered from its 2022 lows and soared by more than 400%. Read Next: Find Out: However, his tune is starting to change. In a recent X post, Demeester pondered if now is a good opportunity to get back into Tesla stock. His chart compares how much Bitcoin you can buy with a single Tesla share. While the share price seems to present a buy-the-dip opportunity, there are a few key factors to consider before deciding if Tesla is a buy. Bitcoin's growth doesn't only play a role in Bitcoin vs. Tesla debates, but it also has a direct impact on Tesla's stock price. The EV maker has more than 11,000 Bitcoins and continues to grow its stockpile. That's well over $11 billion in Bitcoin. If the cryptocurrency gains more value and Tesla continues to build its position, Bitcoin will soon have a more sizable impact on Tesla's future price movements. Robotaxis are a key piece of Tesla's long-term bullish outlook. Tesla recently received the green light in Austin, Texas, according to Time, and its robotaxis have received mixed reviews. As the technology improves and becomes more accurate, lower prices will draw people away from services like Uber. While Waymo is the current leader in the United States, Tesla has a key advantage. The company is a widely recognized automaker, and many people buy Tesla vehicles just to drive them. Future vehicles will have a robotaxi component that lets Tesla owners earn money from their vehicles even when they aren't driving them. This type of network can grow rapidly and in a more cost-effective manner than Waymo. Tesla has Airbnb scaling potential with its robotaxi service, while Waymo isn't selling cars to the public, which makes it more expensive for them to expand operations. Humanoid robots are another long-term catalyst for Tesla investors. Optimus has made great strides and will be used in Tesla factories later this year, according to Business Insider. Tesla humanoid robots could be available for purchase as soon as 2026. These robots could potentially become revolutionary, must-own items for consumers and businesses. They may be able to perform household chores, heavy-duty jobs and other tasks. The humanoid robots haven't produced any tangible revenue yet, but they can become a big driver of future growth in the next 3-5 years. Most of Tesla's stock valuation depends on how investors feel about its future prospects. While robotaxis and humanoid robots are exciting, they mask the fact that Tesla's core electric vehicle business isn't doing well. BYD, Shenzhen-based EV brand, has been gobbling up Tesla's market share in Europe, and other Chinese EV makers are also competing for European drivers. Tesla has already found itself losing ground in a crowded Chinese EV market, making this recent development even worse. The political mismatch between Musk's stance and the typical Tesla customer's political tendencies makes matters even worse. Tesla has catered to people who want a more environmentally friendly driving solution than gas. It's a mostly liberal base that bought Tesla cars and sang high praises for Musk before he supported President Trump. Musk's stance has alienated Tesla's core audience, and liberal-leaning people outside of the United States have followed suit. Tesla sales plummeted in Germany when Musk endorsed a right-wing candidate, and it's possible that Tesla never recovers in Germany, according to Forbes. Musk is unlikely to completely bow out of politics, and that can further alienate him from the liberal customers who regularly purchased Tesla vehicles before he became more vocal. While robotaxis and humanoid robots could change the financial narrative, for now, prospects of a strong future are in the driver's seat for this Tesla stock rally. Any holes in that narrative may result in a deeper correction.
