Jisoo's nephew to study in the Philippines
The nephew of K-pop star Jisoo is set to study in the Philippines, according to a social media post by the Blackpink member's older sister, Ji Yoon. Ji Yoon recently shared a photo on Instagram showing her son, Minsung, at the airport before his flight to the Philippines. The post was captioned, 'Have a good [time studying] in the Philippines, Minsung,' accompanied by a plane, Philippine flag, and heart emojis. She also posted a photo of Minsung hugging his father prior to departure. Ji Yoon is a former flight attendant who is now working as a lifestyle influencer and freelance model. She stepped away from aviation after having two children. Jisoo, a member of the globally popular girl group Blackpink, has visited the Philippines multiple times. In March 2025, she held the opening leg of her solo fan meeting tour, Lights, Love, Action!, in Manila. The tour coincided with the release of her debut solo EP Amortage, which includes tracks like 'Earthquake,' 'Your Love,' 'Tears,' and 'Hugs & Kisses.' Before the fan meet, Jisoo was also seen filming scenes for her upcoming K-drama Boyfriend on Demand in Cebu, alongside co-stars Seo In-Guk and Chae Soo-Bin.

Look who's back – and with back pay after escaping conviction
That's due to Section 229 of the Local Government Act clause (6): 'A councillor who is no longer stood down under subsection (1) is entitled to their allowance, including any allowance previously withheld under subsection (4), unless the councillor is convicted of the offence.' Agirtan, a tax manager, pointed out at the time that her court-ordered donation was tax-deductible. We sought comment from her but didn't hear back. The council confirmed the back payment. And while she was suspended from the council, nothing could suspend her from social media during that period, which included a reference to her critics 'sucking each other off in the comments on the City of Kingston post'. Positively Trumpian in its eloquence. Back to the benches A mere 11 weeks after the May 3 election, federal parliament has returned. Everyone wanted to put their feet up after that gruelling election campaign, we guess. Or hike the Great Wall of China. The pollies slowly began to trickle back to Canberra, and on Sunday night, CBD's spies spotted Labor frontbenchers Murray Watt, Jenny McAllister and Tim Ayres enjoying a pre-sitting dinner at the restaurant Compa in the Canberra Centre. Expect more of that. During the downtime, CBD brought you several updates about the great staffer exodus, and had some sport at the expense of the PM's chief of staff, Tim Gartrell, for what we thought was his weirdly school-prefect attitude to his underlings oversharing happy snaps with the prime minister on social media. Obligations under the ministerial staff code of blah blah blah, you understand. We live in a Zoomer generation after all. If it is not posted on LinkedIn, did you even have a job? But maybe he had a point: word has reached CBD of a former staffer whose profile on the romantic-encounter social media site Hinge once included a selfie with … the prime minister. Anthony 'Aphrodisiac' Albanese. Somehow we don't think so. PvO's Hollow State The period following a federal election brings the inevitable flurry of political tomes by our various pundits. Last month, CBD revealed that formidable columnist Niki Savva would be releasing a new book, appropriately titled Earthquake, just in time to send seismic rumbles through various Liberal Party Christmases. Also getting in on the act is University of Western Australia politics professor and Daily Mail Australia political editor Peter van Onselen. His new book, The Hollow State: Power Without Purpose in Australian Politics, is due for an October release by niche right-leaning press Wilkinson Publishing. It feels a slight step down from Hachette, which published PvO's 2021 book on Scott Morrison, but then again, PvO's own recent career arc has been a little chaotic. He went from The Australian and Sky News to Network Ten and The Project before joining Daily Mail Australia last year. Van Onselen has been a pundit whose notable career highlights included instances of being prominently wrong (his 'kisses of death' were the stuff of legend), but even we were amused to find this 2022 headline: 'Does Peter van Onselen have the kiss of death? How political guru predicted the 'future of Australian politics' in a single photo ... and got it VERY wrong' published in, er, Daily Mail Australia. He quit as Network Ten's political editor in 2023, and was then successfully sued by his former employer for breaching a non-disparagement clause in his redundancy agreement (an agreement under which he trousered $165,000) by writing an article in The Australian calling the broadcaster 'the minnow of Australian television'. Loading To be fair, he was technically right about that one, as Ten's ratings and financial performance has shown, but in our experience the negative commentary in The Australian about Ten used to be inversely proportionate to how much of the network was owned by The Australian 's boss of bosses, Lachlan Murdoch. PvO told us his new book was some years in the making, a lament at the hollowing out of modern politics by those on both sides of the aisle that he hoped would be 'half-scholarly, half-populist'.

Japanese Govt to Revise Nankai Trough Quake Guidelines to Prevent Confusion
The government intends to revise the guidelines that state what actions to be taken by residents, companies and others when a Nankai Trough Earthquake Extra Information advisory is issued. The move to expand the contents of the guidelines was made considering the confusion over how to respond in various regions when the advisory was issued for the first time in August of last year. The Cabinet Office will launch a committee of experts from relevant fields soon, aiming to revise the guidelines as early as next month. The Nankai Trough Earthquake Extra Information advisory with the key word Megathrust Earthquake Attention is issued when an earthquake between a magnitude 7.0 and magnitude 8.0 is considered to have occurred in the probable source region of the Nankai Trough. An advisory with the key word Megathrust Earthquake Alert is issued when a quake with a magnitude 8.0 or higher is considered to have occurred. The guidelines were created to coincide with the launch of the Extra Information advisory system in May 2019. However, they focus on actions to be taken by residents and companies when an advisory with the key word Megathrust Earthquake Alert is issued, and it mentions little for the case of one with the phrase Megathrust Earthquake Attention. The lack of explanation for an Earthquake Attention advisory led to areas taking different responses on things such as whether to open evacuation centers or cancel previously planned events when such an advisory was issued last August. The local governments of the region where the advisory was released have since called for the central government to compile the guidance of standardized responses. When revising the guidelines, the government intends to create a new section for local governments that show which measures are to be taken, in addition to the existing sections for residents and companies. Each section will have a list of responses in the event of an Earthquake Attention advisory being issued. With this revision, the government hopes to ensure that local governments can take measures in accordance with the local situation while maintaining the balance between safety and social activities. Such measures cover securing evacuation places, providing necessary information to residents, holding scheduled events and the operations of schools. The content regarding the Earthquake Alert advisory will also be expanded. One such example includes advising municipalities to designate areas below sea level subject to evacuation in advance for a week when it is issued. The area below sea level has potential risk of flooding if the embankment is destroyed by a powerful earthquake.

Alaska Resident Captures Terrifying Moment Home Shakes Amid Earthquake
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video capturing a home rattling during an earthquake in Alaska has gone viral on TikTok. The clip was shared by @nicoledemoski and has amassed over 741,000 views since it was posted on Thursday. According to text overlaid on the video, the footage was captured on July 16 in the city of King Cove, around 55 miles south of the city of Sand Point in southern Alaska. The clip features a view of a living room setting, with furniture and other items shown to be shaking, including a television mounted on a wall. What appears to be the voice of a child is heard in the background, sounding startled, while another voice says "It's okay...I got you." "Oh my god," the voice later says before the clip cuts to a view of an open field with an aircraft flying past amid sirens in the background. A caption shared with the post says: "7.3 Earthquake, tsunami evacuation, aftershocks... what a day! It's been downgraded from warning to advisory." According to a later video shared by the TikToker, there was no damage to their home or their community. "I'm relieved it wasn't worse," the poster wrote in a caption overlaid on the video. The magnitude 7.3 earthquake took place on Wednesday at 12:37 p.m. local time off the coast of the Alaska Peninsula region, notes the Alaska Earthquake Center of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The latest earthquake, which struck 55 miles south of Sand Point, was felt over a broad region, extending as far as Anchorage and Juneau, where light shaking was reported. Ground shaking was the strongest in Sand Point, with one resident reporting "objects flying out of the pantry and off of shelves." The shaking was described as mild rolling in the city of Homer, with lamps and plants swaying, according to the earthquake center. "We have not received reports of significant damage in the communities nearest to the epicenter," the center said. A tsunami warning was issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center immediately following the earthquake, before it was downgraded to an advisory around an hour later. Tsunami evacuations were also issued by several communities, including Sand Point, King Cove, Kodiak, Old Harbor, Homer, Seward, and Unalaska. "If an impactful wave had been generated during this event, those communities closest to the epicenter would have had minutes to evacuate," the earthquake center noted. Both the latest earthquake and the previous one in 2023 happened within the previous aftershock zone of the July 2020 M7.8 Simeonof Earthquake that occurred in the same region. "Aftershocks are likely to persist in the foreseeable future," the center warned, noting that the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Aftershock Forecast shows that "at least one magnitude 6 or greater is possible in the next week, and smaller earthquakes are highly likely to continue." The Alaska–Aleutian Megathrust region represents an area of increased seismic activity, the center notes, having experienced five magnitude 7 or greater earthquakes over the past five years. Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified. An aerial view over Sand Point, Alaska. An aerial view over Sand Point, Alaska.
